Dear Mr. Unabomber por Ray Cavanaugh (ENC Press)

Este livros é um e-livro e não um livro físico.

Ao receptor será pedido que disponibilize uma resenha em troca do livro.

Oferecido por ENCPress (editora): E-version offered by the publisher as a download (6 MB PDF file) from the publisher's site. Link will be sent to the winners.

Descrição: In the best classical tradition, this epistolary novel strives to make sense of the world in which the letter-writer finds himself, alone and misunderstood by everyone.

Whom is a young man to call upon to share his yearning for a simpler, more natural life? The narrator appeals to the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski, whose deranged Santa Claus image transfixed him as a boy and whose terminal anti-tech vendetta now captivates him in these ever-more-simulated days.

Having procured the Unabomber’s inmate address from the Internet, the narrator uncaps his pen and starts writing letters. Lots of them. Letters about college that feels like glorified obedience training; about the prospect of mediocre careerism sitting on his head like an obese girlfriend; about relationships guided by fashion-magazine tips; about the conservation land where he puffed his first joint being paved over for luxury housing; about his best friend gradually opting for more cyber-chat and less real-life interaction . . .

With humor, self-deprecation, and irony that are only intensified by despair, Dear Mr. Unabomber explores the barrenness and slavish conformity running ghostlike in circles of the MySpace hell. When you have no one else to turn to, Ted Kaczynski must become your BFF.

Descrição: "Elidyr Mwynfawr, King of Aeron, was a weak, greedy fool, and like many another such fool, he died of his folly. But because he was a King, in his dying he cost many better men their lives as well, and this was the way of it: for I, Gwernin Kyuarwyd, was there, and saw much of it myself, and the tale that I tell you is true..."

In 6th century Wales, the ash spear – pren onn – was a symbol of warfare and of manhood, but it also stood for awen, the poetic inspiration of the bards. As warfare comes to North Wales, bardic apprentice Gwernin must master all three of its meanings in order to keep himself and his friends alive. From otherworldly dangers to rich rewards in the fire-lit halls of kings, from bloody battle and grueling labor to tender romance, The Ash Spear follows him in the thrilling conclusion of this first trilogy in the Storyteller series.

Stunt Road por Gregory Mose (Gregory Mose)

Este livros é um e-livro e não um livro físico.

Ao receptor será pedido que disponibilize uma resenha em troca do livro.

Oferecido por gregorymose (autor): I am the author of this book, and I'm looking to my fellow LibraryThing members to help get the word out to a wider audience. I understand why readers are often hesitant to spend money on a book not backed by a major publisher. So here's your chance to try it for free in Kindle, Epub, PDF, RTF, LRF, Palm Doc or Plain Text formats (via Smashwords).

Descrição: It seems too good to be true. When Pete McFadden invents his own system of fortune-telling, he doesn't really expect anyone to take it seriously. He can't imagine that it will become Hollywood's next spiritual fad. And he certainly never dreams that "Horokinetics" could make him famous. But it does. And when his creation becomes the battleground between a manipulative cult leader and an unscrupulous corporation, Pete learns a simple truth. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Stunt Road is an intelligent, cynical and above all entertaining foray into the murky world of for-profit spirituality. If you've ever raised an eyebrow at self-improvement schemes, corporate marketing mania or the general gullibility of your fellow men, then this book is a treat. And if you haven't, then it is a must-read.

Descrição: Memoir, Norma Jean’s Sun

is an artistic true story autobiography writing that I have carried for many years in both experience and thought.

A labor of love tribute to a mother that sacrificed everything for her severely crippled son. Courtney is an artist in both paint and words. In his touching memoir, he captures the essence of a tragic life and the beauty that lies beneath the surface. His words paint a picture of a hardship and a suffering that only few could imagine. Using a painter’s brush, Courtney scratches out his emotional story in an abstraction of language that parallels a life that just will not give up.

Stricken by tragedy, the Dictator declares war on his city, and there’s only one man alive who can save it. Is he willing to take the final step and do what must be done, or will the Bedlam crush Mt. How to Be a Big Brother por Barbara Kellam-Scott (bkswrites)

Ao receptor será pedido que disponibilize uma resenha em troca do livro.

Oferecido por bkswrites (autor): I wrote this book almost 30 years ago, in my elder son's voice and mainly his words, but have just figured out how to go ahead and get it out in the world. Your suggestions for other kinds of publishing will also be much appreciated.

Descrição: This picture book was compiled in something like real time, when one little boy found out he would have to share his parents and his home with another little boy. Most of the words, and all of the most important ones, are his, fondly remembered by his mother, who could not have been more pleasantly surprised at the bond between her sons. In fact, now that they're both off on their own, she's more than a little jealous of it.

This edition is only the second official edition of the book. The first was created for Chris and Mike's cousin once removed and given to him as his special gift at the baby shower held for his mother before the birth of his sister. Though this cousin was older than Chris was when he became a big brother, he asked his Dad (Chris's model for big-brotherdom in the story) to read it to him several times while they waited.

Since this is a print-on-demand book, special editions can be customized with family photos or drawings and adapted with names, even for sisters. (Offer does not apply to giveaway, of course.)

Uncertain Paradise: 1973 [part one] por John W. Cassell (Inkwater Press)

Oferecido por johnwcassell (autor): Winners will receive their books through amazon.com for faster service. No review is requested...just read and enjoy.
****************
Part One of Cassell's novel of nation-building and international intrigue is again being offered to give the many who signed up for it the first time another opportunity. Cassell became fascinated with the process of nation-building during the eleven years he worked for a Third World government on a remote tropical island. Working with an indigenous journalist on the island, he began a serious study of the process, spending hundreds of hours interviewing members of the traditional island society as well as its modern political leaders, later combining his impressions with a politico-military adventure story to produce this two-part novel. This fictional account of the birth and development of the Isle of St. Margaret's offers absorbing entertainment combined with a look at a process ongoing throughout the earth's final frontiers.

Descrição: Uncertain Paradise: 1973—-part one by John W. Cassell (2007)—the protagonist and his girlfriend, on the run from the FBI and the DiStefano Organized Crime Family arrive on the Isle of St. Margaret's as it begins its last three months as a British Colony before independence. His female companion is shortly kidnaped as the protagonist is impressed into the island's military, fighting a desperate battle against Marxist guerillas. As the tensions and dangers of his new society mount up, the protagonist shortly finds himself in a situation perhaps more deadly than the one from which he fled. Based on the author's eleven years experience on a tropical island working for a Third World government, this is a story of nation-building and politico-military intrigue.

Ao receptor será pedido que disponibilize uma resenha em troca do livro.

Oferecido por gladeslibrarian: I received this ARC from Early Reviewers. If you win this book please post a review on LibraryThing. Thanks!

Descrição: from publisher's website:

About This Book

Returning to her Midwest roots, award-winning author Jane Kirkpatrick draws a page from her grandmother's photo album to capture the interplay between shadow and light, temptation and faith that marks a woman's pursuit of her dreams.

She took exquisite photographs,
but her heart was the true image exposed.

Fifteen-year-old Jessie Ann Gaebele loves nothing more than capturing a gorgeous Minnesota landscape when the sunlight casts its most mesmerizing shadows. So when F.J. Bauer hires her in 1907 to assist in his studio and darkroom, her dreams for a career in photography appear to find root in reality.

With the infamous hazards of the explosive powder used for lighting and the toxic darkroom chemicals, photography is considered a man' s profession. Yet Jessie shows remarkable talent in both the artistry and business of running a studio. She proves less skillful, however, at managing her growing attraction to the very married Mr. Bauer.

Wild Fire por Nelson DeMille

Oferecido por LancasterWays: This is a paperback in pretty good condition. I'm not going to read it. Please give this book a good home.

Descrição: From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. Set in October 2002, bestseller DeMille's can't-put-it-down fourth thriller to feature ex-NYPD detective John Corey (after 2004's Night Fall) involves an American right-wing plot to suitcase-nuke two U.S. cities. The idea is to provoke an existing government plan called Wild Fire that automatically responds to nuclear terrorism in the homeland with a nuclear attack that will wipe out most of the Middle East. That such a plan probably exists, according to an opening author's note, heightens the tension. Corey and his FBI agent wife, Kate Mayfield, set off to find antiterrorist agent Harry Muller, who has disappeared after being assigned surveillance duties at the Custer Hill Club, a rich man's hunting lodge in upstate New York. John and Kate are a wisecracking, affectionate, deadly duo, with a new resolve born in the tragedy of the World Trade Center bombing. This tour de force of relentless narrative power neither stops nor slows for twists or turns, but charges straight ahead in the face of danger. (Nov.)

And she’s in for more than a few misadventures, as she encounters messy domestic dramas, troubled pasts, the joys and pain of womanhood, and the obstacles that we overcome to help the ones we love.

Chickens, Mules and Two Old Fools por Victoria Twead (New Generation Publishing)

Ao receptor será pedido que disponibilize uma resenha em troca do livro.

Oferecido por VictoriaTwead (autor): This book has been described as Driving over Lemons meets James Herriot and was awarded the HarperCollins Authonomy 'Gold Star'.

Harper Collins wrote: ‘laugh-out-loud funny...especially the Spanish women heckling over eggs from “The English”...hilarious...engaging...the interspersion of recipes is charming’

Cheri, USA wrote:
I can very much see why ‘Chickens’ has a shiny, gold star. This is just lovely. I was entranced and thoroughly enjoyed coming along for the ride. What I love best are the details; they helped to make Spain come alive for me and the myriad quirks of each person had me laughing and reading on.
Delightful.

'Chickens' has only just been released to the unsuspecting public. I'd love to hear what people think of it, wish I could afford to give away more.

Chickens, Mules and Two Old Fools

Descrição: Set in sun-scorched Andalucía, 'Chickens' describes Vicky and Joe’s life-changing move to a tiny village tucked in the Alpujarra mountains. The couple have no idea of the culture shock awaiting them, no idea they will become reluctant chicken farmers, attempt to capture a vulture or own the most dangerous cockerel in Spain.

Life with the villagers is never dull as they embark on their Five Year Plan.

At the end of five years they must decide. Will they stay or return to the relative sanity of England?

Vicky and Joe’s story is packed with irreverent humour, animals, eccentric characters and sunshine.

'A truly hilarious page-turner.'

Oferecido por Jenson_AKA_DL: This is an author I encounted when I was active on MySpace and I picked it up a while back. I just recently read and reviewed the book and wanted to pass it along to someone who might like to do the same. A bonus is that Marie Lamba is now a LT author as well!

My little sister thinks I'm a thief.

My best friend thinks I'm a jerk.

My parents think I'm bulimic.

And the boy I love thinks I'm not into him at all.

Somehow I have to set the record straight before I totally lose my mind.

Marie Lamba's debut novel tells the story of how 15-year-old Sangeet Jumnal's sleepy suburban life suddenly gets super complicated.

The Amateur Magician's Handbook (Fourth Edition) por Henry Hay (Harper & Row)

Oferecido por sringle1202: This book is from the early 80's, but is in good condition, with dust jacket. It has been sitting on my bookshelf since I was a child, but I have never read it. I hope to pass it to someone who can get some entertainment out of it. I do not have the video tape that goes with it.

Descrição: from dust jacket:
For more than a generation The Amateur Magician's Handbook has been the acknowledged classic text for conjurers, both beginners and advanced. Now a fourth edition, expanded as well as thoroughly revised, moves into the electronic age, with the Amazing Randi contributing his experience with videotape, which is revolutionizing self-coaching for the modern performer.

This new edition teaches, briskly yet carefully, with hundreds of illustrations, all the skills and secrets of the wizard's repertoire—reading minds, pulling rabbits from hats, turning red handkerchiefs green, dissolving knots, pouring drinks from empty jars, dealing yourself all the aces, finding silver dollars in the air, to name a few.

The Amateur Magician's Handbook stands alone in showing how and why magic works as entertainment: how spectators think and feel—to make puzzling tricks pleasing.

A comprehensive new section covers the difficult but rewarding (and potentially profitable) art of entertaining children.

The final sections tell you what you need to know about conjuring beyond the tricks: comedy; pantomime; music. And extensive bio-bibliography includes not only the great conjurers of the past but also the up-and-coming conjurers of today.

Lastly, author Henry Hay offers guidance on making magic make money for you. "If I hear of someone's studying The Amateur Magician's Handbook and then climbing out of the amateur class by getting paid for a show," says Henry Hay, "I shal be satisfied."

Chalktown por Melinda Haynes (Hyperion)

Ao receptor será pedido que disponibilize uma resenha em troca do livro.

Oferecido por sringle1202: Harback copy with dust jacket in good condition. This was not my cup of tea, but maybe it will be yours.

Descrição: From dust jacket:
Chalktown, Haynes's second novel, is written in the same devastatingly beautiful language that has won her critical and popular acclaim. Returning to the country she knows so well—the backwoods South of the 1960's—Haynes tells the story of a mysterious town and its inhabitants, each with their own afflictions and joys, each with their own secrets.

In sparsely populated George County, Mississippi, along a quiet dirt road lined by sharecropper houses, lies Chalktown—a small village of folks who communicate mostly through the chalkboards set up in the front yards of their houses. Down the road lives the Sheehand family: sixteen-year-old Hezekiah, his older sister, Arena, his mentally disabled younger brother, Yellababy, and their disaffected and often cruel mother, Susan Blair, whose husband has abandoned both the house and the family. One day, with Yellababy strapped to his back, Hez sets out for Chalktown, determined to plumb its mysteries, or perhaps just to get away from his shabby home's oppressive atmosphere. And, on that same spring day, the family he's left behind will confront a tragedy that at once erases Hez's bitter past and paves the way for a hopeful future.

Armed with a gothic and spiritual sensibility reminiscent of Flannery O'Connor, Melinda Haynes weaves her characters' lives and stories into an unforgettable tapestry of sorrow and salvation that confirms her place as one of our country's most exciting and consistently brilliant new writers.

MIxed Blessings por Danielle Steel (Delacorte Press)

Ao receptor será pedido que disponibilize uma resenha em troca do livro.

Oferecido por sringle1202: I rescued this book from the discard bin at a local bookstore. I tried reading it, but just couldn't get into it. I hope someone else can get more enjoyment out of it.

Descrição: From dust jacket:
In Mixed Blessings, her 30th novel, Danielle Steel weaves a powerful tale of three couples who face decisions about having children that will test, in unexpected ways, the ties that bind them as lovers, partners, and friends. Their lives, their goals, their feelings about families, are on the line, as the word "infertility" begins to unravel their dreams.

Diana Goode and Andrew Douglas are a California couple who seem to have it all: glamorous careers, good looks, good times, and lives full of friends and family. After their wedding, Diana teases that she will make a baby on their honeymoon. But long afterward, she is still not pregnant. Diana enviously watches her sisters effortlessly conceive as she shuttles between doctors' offices and Andrew struggles to find a solution to their problem in order to hold on to his wife. As they wait out each month with great anticipation only to be bitterly disappointed, they are forced to question just how much they are willing to go through to have a baby...and at what cost to their marriage. Unknown to Diana, damaged and scarred by an IUD when she was in college, she must face what this means to her. Diana and Andy reach out to surrogates, adoption, and lead a life of quiet desperation until they find the solutions that work for them.

The beaming groom at the Mason-Winwood wedding is Charlie Winwood. Having grown up an orphan, he dreams of a house filled with children, and a happy family. His bride, fun-seeking actress Barbie Mason, has other ideas. She thrives on excitement and dreams not of the joys of motherhood, but of seeing her name up in lights. Their marriage is strained, but Charlie is convinced that a baby will solve it all. But when his plan proves unsuccessful and he discovers that he is sterile, Charlie has to rethink his deepest values—and his marriage to a woman who shares none of his dreams.

Pilar Graham, a prominent Santa Barbara attorney, astonishes her friends by marrying Judge Brad Coleman—after living with him for eighteen years. Brad, in his early sixties and the father of two grown children, and Pilar, in her early forties, are happy with their comfortable life together, just the two of them. That is until Pilar begins to wonder if someday she will regret not having a baby with Brad. Are they crazy to begin now—with Brad about to become a grandfather? It will not be an easy road for Pilar and Brad as the encounter the world of high-tech medicine and the bittersweet rewards it brings them.

Through the lives of these couples, Danielle Steel shows us the mixed blessings we face as we make our modern families. But despite hardship and heartache, she reminds us again of the triumphant spirit of love.

Bio of an Ogre por Piers Anthony (Ace)

Oferecido por Jenson_AKA_DL: It was a toss up of whether I just bin the book or offer it to someone who might be interested. This book was a huge disappointment to me because I expected the author to be a much different personality than he turned out to be. However, if you're interested in a look at an autobiography of a writer with an colorful history and an inside, candid look at the publishing industry by someone who worked hard, became famous and still disliked publishers, you might want to check this out.

The book itself is a mass market paperback, former library copy. It is worn with spine creasing and a crease on the cover along with various bits of library stickers and such.

Descrição: The autobiography of science fiction/fantasy author Piers Anthony up to age 50.

Descrição: Library Thing Member Review by lesezeichen:
"La vie au quotidien de trois filles de 11 ans, leurs amis et familles et celle des religieuses qui les enseignent: amitié, hostilité, réveil à la sexualité... Tout comme dans le premier tome des Chroniques du Plateau Mont-Royal les différents fils de l'intrigue ne sont pas très concis: ce qui fait le charme de ses livres, c'est l'atmosphère du quartier, le regard tendre que l'auteur porte sur ses personnages et les dialogues vivaces."
