Don't give up on this author.... I wasn't too sure about Memory of Running either; and then had the occasion to read Traveler, which I loved; I kept telling my husband "I know these guys!; you know these guys!" but of course we didn't.... so don't toss him out just yet please
ruth i challenge you to the bone collector jeffery deaver

bl
Hmmm, this was really quite interesting - the last few pages change my total understanding of the book!!! I now need to re-read it knowing what I may or may not now possibly know!!!!! I can't say any more Ruth as you haven't read it yet. I'm feeling frustrated because I have so many questions I need to 'chat through' !!!!! -x-
Hi Ruth, I'm upto pg66 of Life of Pi. The 3 religious leaders have all met Pi and his parents and are arguing over who's religion is THE religion. It's funny, I'm not sure what to make of it. I had to really stick at it to start with and now I'm really enjoying it. It strikes me as the kind of book that you could read again and agian and each time get something different from it. I really wish I could get a good chunk of quiet time to absorb myself fully in it. I studied philosophy and Hinduism at A-Level so a lot of it actually means something to me!! -x-

Hi there, we share Andrea Camilleri, Ian Rankin, Ayn Rand, Alexander McCall Smith and Peter Robinson habits. I had just gotten on LT a few months ago and asked for suggestions and got a bunch of them, which is how I got into Inspector Montalbano. Maybe next time I'll just ask you for advice. great to meet you.
More than a member, I own it.. so get back soon! LOL Hope you had a lovely honeymoon. :)
Just saying hi, as we share a few books. :)
Hiya

Yeh as soon as I asked that question I wondered what I would answer if someone asked me the same thing - as you say hard to know - I do go on recommendations quite a lot and often find myself enjoying books that have won the Orange prize bit it is surprising how much influence a book cover can have!!!....perhaps wrongly so but there you go!

Just picked up Family Matters by Rohinton Mistry to read - how about you?

Milesy
Do you have a wishlist on bookmooch.com?
I love your tags! "Over-rated", "inferior to his later work", et al...
Hi Ruth,

Yeah I'm surprised as well. I bought it in Bangkok and read it on an overnight train to Chang Mai about 10 years ago and could'nt put it down.
)

Paul
Hi Ruth

I am fairly new to this site so good to hear from you!

So what made you decide to read some of the 83 books we share?

Cheers

Milesy
Hello Ruth,
I have picked up on you through your review of Margaret Atwoods's 'The Robber Bride'(like most Librythingers we have a lot of current fiction in common) this led me to your other reviews and i wanted to tell you I fully agree with your comments on the superiority of 'Lucky' by Margaret Seabold. It struck me as a particularly stunningly honest recount of something quite awful to happen to a young girl. Beyond her ordeal, I was left with a pretty bad mood considering the role of the American legal system in such cases and its determination to win out at any cost. This skewering of where human concern should reach out to help is depressing, as time passes we should be raising our conciousness and to be fair we have, but there is a way to go yet.
best regards,
Freddy.
