Hello What did you think of the Secrets of the Sea: A Novel (P.S.) by Nicholas Shakespeare. I just finished reading it. I rather liked it
Hi,
loved your review for "The Piano Teacher"!
A lot of my thoughts were similar to yours regarding this book.

Noticed that you liked The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here (as well as on a few other book-related sites). I thought you might like my novel since it's been compared to that novel by a number of reviewers. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Hi Carolyn,

Just wanted to drop by and say 'Howdy'. Also that I was slated to receive "Museum of Human Beings" too, but have given up on it ever arriving. [Going so far as to delete it from my library.]

It always makes me curious when such offerings don't arrive. Was it a SNAFU? Or did the publisher change it's mind?

Regards!
Good to hear from you, Carolyn! I loved the Fortune Cookie Chronicles -- my family and I lived in Korea for 20 years so we are very fond of Asian food, Chinese, Thai, Korean all. That experience has made us all very interested also in stories of immigrants and their children (my four children all grew up in Korea), the challenges, joys and adventures of cross-cultural experiences. So that book really scratched where I itched...a really fun book on several levels. I ordered The Lady and the Panda last year sometime after it was one of the featured non-fiction selections on dearreader.com. Are you aware of dearreader? It's as grand a site/reading club as LibraryThing!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Blessings, Martha Huntley
Carolyn, You stopped reading The Lady and the Panda too soon. Ruth Harkness was a great improvement over the animal collectors of her time, and went on to feel about them and the zoos of the day as you do...she is one who both marked a change and helped bring about a change, though she was in the midst of what she, like you, so hated. I think if you had followed her experiences (the book is very much written chronologically), you would feel some kinship with her and appreciate the changes since the more.
I notice we've read and like a lot of the same books. Grace and peace, Martha Huntley
