Sobre mimI'm an mid-30s, female professional who works in downtown Ottawa and lives in the 'burbs.
I mainly read and write in English, though my first language is French. English has become my dominant language.
I will be commenting on many of books I read, which will include a lot of chick lit.
Sobre a minha bibliotecaMy library is made up of both books I've read -- many of which are library books -- and books I own. Once I've added a book to my library, it's because I would like to read it. Whether I actually ever will read all the books I own is unlikely!
With so many books on hand, I'm more than happy to share them with friends. So if you know me and are geographically nearby, don't hesitate to ask if you'd like to read some of the books I own.
I enjoy browsing through books at used book sales and that's where I get most of the books I own. It's rather rare for me to spend more than $3 or so on any one book.
I really enjoy being around books. For me, it's relaxing and soothing to walk into a room that is lined with shelves full of books. Ahhh!
I love being around books, handling books, perusing books, picking out books and yes, even reading them.
I used to be an avid reader of fiction. Had been from grade 4 onwards. Then, when I was in university, during my undergrad, I had enough school related reading to suck the desire for fiction out of me during the school years. But during summers, and Christmas breaks, I would be back at it. Enjoying all sorts of novels. Enjoying especially the sense of accomplishment in finishing novels. The classics were never my favourites. I've always preferred lighter fare.
After my B.A., I resumed devouring books of all persuasions. I even kept reading textbooks. (I love non-fiction as well.)
And then there was law school.
Nearly seven years ago already, I started law school. Little did I know at the time that this would mark a long hiatus in my novel-reading enjoyment. I just lost the desire to read fiction. One Christmas break I found myself reading Accounting for Lawyers. For fun. You might guess from this (correctly) that I took to law school like a duck to water. Law school lasted three years and was followed by a full year of clerkship for articles. Then a short Bar Admission Course. And the very next week, my first job as a lawyer. That was July 2006.
By the spring of 2007, I was ready to read for pleasure again!
Of course, I did start that Masters in Law in September 2007, so who knows what this will mean for pleasure reading...
Before the law school lull, I'd read and loved a few works that have been categorized as Chick Lit. In particular, I had loved Jennifer Weiner's Good in Bed and Shannon Olson's Welcome To My Planet. Those two books really came along at the right time in my life. I related to the main characters in a way I never had before.
And it's chick lit that's reawakened my love of reading.
I will be reviewing many of the books I read. Many of them will be chick lit.
An important source of acquisition for the books I read is the Ottawa Public Library.
Addendum (Dec 2009): I just handed in my last assignment for my Master's and am now looking forward to spending more time reading for fun. Woo-hoo!

My library of books I own and want to read is getting out of hand. Sometimes, when I am shelving my books, I get so antsy to read so many of my books. Then when I actually finish one and have the opportunity to pick my next read, I am so indecisive. I suppose it makes sense, given how many books I have to choose from.
I still have a lot of readings to do for my Master's and that is cutting into my pleasure reading time. I am really looking forward to being done my Master's.
