Sobre mimLet's see, what is there about me that is interesting?

I have two sons who are now grown and on their own. I'm not sure when that happened; they were babies just a week ago!

I teach Algebra to willing (and many unwilling) eighth graders. Occasionally, I do find time to do things other than work. I enjoy reading (of course), scuba diving, photography (a new hobby that I'm loving), sports, movies, and playing the piano. I love to travel, but I don't get that opportunity as much as I would like.

I am always in the midst of two or three books and am never without a book. Even when I'm involved in other things, reading is the constant, daily activity that I can take with me anywhere.

PROFILE PICTURE - This photo was made in my backyard after a rain storm.

Sobre a minha bibliotecaI am not sure my library will ever be complete. There are many books still in boxes that have not been entered. At some point, I hope to have them all out and on shelves.

My library is a collection of books that I own (read or TBR), books I have borrowed and read, and books that I donated after reading. If I own it and/or have read it, it goes in my library. I like many genres so you'll find a little of everything there.

I have used the following scale for rating my books: 5 - Wonderful book, enjoyed very much; 4 - Good book, would recommend to someone else; 3 - Okay book, enjoyed parts; 2 - Fair, but did not particularly enjoy; 1 - Did not like.

I do hope you enjoy the SantaThing books- I had a great time being your adoptive Santa. The Help is on my wishlist and I thought you might enjoy it- let me know if it is as good as I've heard!

I just read Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman which you might also enjoy as it takes places in Savannah...
Hello fellow great-mind err..great-mind fellow; forget that, let's say great-taste-in-books compatriot!
Just saw your GD post and needed to reply here, while checking out our shared books. How eclectic! I love seeing that.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Hey Cindy! I just had to let you know my husband got me a Borders gift certificate for my birthday last month and I got Diana Gabaldon's Outlander finally! I am really enjoying it, I am so glad we got to listen to her talk at DragonCon, I love knowing the backstories behind the books I read! :) Hope everything's going well for you, I'm spending as much time as I can on the couch here, trying to cook these babies for two and a half more months!

Cara
I want my pinecones, as per. the secret message, Oops.
Wow, Cindy, there is some mean rains going on in Georgia today. I just caught the news on the Today show, I have not been watching the news much for the last couple of weeks. I am hoping your neighborhoods are not being badly affected by this crazy weather. Stay safe and happy, please.

Glad you had a great time at the Dragon Con.

I am enjoying The Hunger Games but I also bought True Compass (Ted Kennedy's autobio) and I expect it will seduce me away from fiction for a bit. I am a politics and history junkie, and ex-hippy and civil rights workers so Ted Kennedy's observations are very interesting to me.

OK...Bill Clinton is on the TV now so I'll stop. Just wanted to say hey...stay safe.

Karen
Ooh, great! I'll be on the look out!

Hi Cindy - I've noted your number down on my printout of my con schedule.

We will be staying at the Hyatt, again. I can be reached by note, there, or someone will always be at the artshow table, an note can be left if I am at an appearance.

You LTers can always use the table as a rendezvous point, if you like.

I have a room suite, too, and it would be So Cool if we could all meet there after hours for refreshment or something - it is quiet...or there is that little local brew pub with good beer!

I am looking forward to this, and to seeing the old and new faces.
Can't wait until Dragon*Con, thanks for adding it as a venue!
Georgia,
Please forgive me, I just saw a note you posted to me back in 2008 about the Woolsey family. I would be glad to respond to you, but contact me at my email cindywardclark@aol.com
I am with the Edward Howell Family Association and they are from Southampton, Long Island, New York. However, I live in San Antonio, Texas.
Thanks,
Cindy Clark
I'll have to look for that book, sounds interesting!

The missus and I jsut got back from her birthday trip to St Michaels, Maryland. A quaint little boating town on the Maryland Eastern Shore. Really nice trip, very relaxing. We took a boat tour of the Chesapeake Bay lighthouses in the area today and I'm wiped...
AHA! Maybe you are the Georgia Dawn from Flickr that wrote to me? Do tell!
I'm still writing my thesis - very slowly (on the tones of a Chinese dialect). I'm getting very easily distracted on things, especially in the Green Dragon! I'm re-reading World War Z at the moment. Reading about the worst bits of humanity at the moment is almost too much at the moment. I almost burst into tears on the bus this morning. That would have been embarrassing. I should probably be sticking to 'light and fluffy'.

The Southern Vampires are good - I certainly agree. Fun to read. I've never been to the US, let alone the South, so it's a new perspective I don't get in other books. I suppose Georgia isn't the same as Louisiana, but I guess you have enough similarity that there's identifiability. I wasn't horribly impressed with True Blood. They took out a lot of the innocence and charm of the books, but a lot of people think it's great, so who am I to argue. I just won't watch it.
Cindy, do you mark your photographs (on Flickr) as copyrighted? How do you do that? I really think both you and I have photographs which could be stolen easily and should be marked with copyright data. Any ideas?
GeorgiaDawn,

Hey, thanks for marking my profile out as an interesting library. I noticed you live in Georgia. I used to live there, too--oh, how I do miss the South! Hope you're doing well, reading something good...

I forget what kind of camera you got but my current instructor recommended Magic Lantern guides and I found that they published two different guides for my camera. First, they have one called a multimedia workshop which included the DVDs and the other was a more straight-forward guide. Go check out Amazon and see if there are some for your camera.

I'm going to put the info in as a new book right now so you can look at my library if you need more info.

I saw on Flickr that you are planning on taking a photography class. Just wanted to respond: Great! Every time I've taken a class I have been pushed to learn more and more. I still am not really happy with what I can do, and what I know about my camera or photography, but I sure do love continuing to learn. What a great life-long hobby. I'll look forward to hearing what you are learning.

I learned how to adjust my camera so it compensates for my glasses! I didn't know it could do that. Wow, just Wow!

See you around the threads.

Karen

I wish I could go on vacation but there is always work to be done! School is on the quarter system and I feel like I'm ALWAYS in class. I only had a two week break before classes started again.
Thanks so much for reading my book. I'm really glad you liked it.
Congrats! Post some pics when you get 'em downloaded.

If you're looking for camera stuff, I've always had good service/proces from bhaudiovideo.com
hey, GD, just breaking away from twitter to say Hi here. :)

monica
Sure thing. Spread the word. Thanks so much.
Are you getting rain? We're getting tons with lightening too. Oh, and I've discovered twitter. LOL.
Oh, and did you love Dawn by Octavia Butler? I miss her writing.
Noticed you liked The Bluest Eye, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also southern and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

OH, Your're here! I always get surprised when i get an instant reply. I always have in my head, that it is day here, therefore must be middle of the night there. Not always sure of the nuances of the time zones!
Heya GeorgiaDawn, was thinking about you when I saw on the news about the tornadoes. Stay safe! Nat
YES! Your profile picture is just darling. And although I have not yet seen the Flickr site this morning it is always OK for you to put comments on my photographs. Love it. hehehehe
Thanks for the welcome. As for normality, I tried it once. It's over rated :-)
Nope. I don't even know if I own it. I'll have to check.

Yup. I own it. It looks like I've read mostly the short story collections, but the only novel I'd read (before yesterday) was Something Wicked This Way Comes, which I ADORE. :o)
Okay, so I enjoyed Fahrenheit 451, but I kept thinking I would have been absolutely berserk over it if I had read it in my teens or early twenties. :o/ It reminded me a lot of Ayn Rand's Anthem.

Clare
Thank you for the welcome. I've been "watching" the conversation in the GD for a couple of weeks, and can see that its a place I want to be.
Looking forward to getting to you all,
Cheryl
Oh, man. I loooooooooooove Tombstone. They are such hotties.
Do you have a copy of The Terror?

If not I can send this one. It's just a paperback..
I would be happy to ass it to a new home where someone might like it
:)

Isn't it great to have heard from Rune! Woo hoo! Hope this finds you well and happy. Don't work too hard, life is too short not to enjoy.

Insomnia sucks! Time to crawl back to bed and hope for the best!
Hey GeorgiaDawn,

Still stuck reading Barack Obama's Dreams of My Father because I am a slow reader and having difficulty concentrating on reading for too long at once. I still read a lot of books though. Have considered investing in a copy of Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book, but haven't been able to find it.

Been very busy with school, creative stuff and blogging. My new blog boss is serialising my webmanga "Ask Junko!" which is about me and my fictional daughter Junko discussing matters of life in the empty minimalist white void of my imagination in which furniture and materials appear when I draw them in as needed. So far Junko has had an episode focused on talking me through a girl rejecting me, but other upcoming topics will include a Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras discussion as well as a review of the Watchmen movie.

Might invest in a language learning program for my Nintendo DS as well, since Ubisoft's language learning software is available at my local tech store for DS.

Hope to hear from you soon!
I'm in chat, if you have time join me?
Thank you! Of course, don't look at the fact that it hasn't been updated in over a week. I just can't seem to get motivated to do it. I don't think anyone really looks at it anyway. It is, however, a great to be able to say that I have the site available. It's just one more reason parents can't complain.
Thank you for telling me! I'll run over there now. :)
Thanks for your note, girl friend.

It is amazing - these interesting friendships.

And it is true: Somethings are best left in the Pub.
This weekend the weather is going to be warm! 76* Can't beat that. And school is kicking my behind! How are things going with you?
I will see if I can get it from the library. My county library is good with popular books but if its not a much wanted book, then they don't get it. I'm still waiting on them to order a book for me. Sheesh! And we got snow yesterday! It is sooooo cold!
