Sobre a minha bibliotecaMostly fiction, much still in boxes. Have actually been "de-acquiring" lately after moving into a smaller house. Reading lots of library books as well as a few I've stockpiled and not gotten to yet. Still entering books.

Here's what I'm reading at the moment, if I've tagged it properly, and
here's what I've read so far this year.

Excellent review of "The Long Legged Fly."
I love that it's solved already. It's nice to know other people share my frivilous taste in literature.
Thanks for the welcome

I left Senators/Twins out of this count because I assumed "new" meant expansion teams, and did not include moved teams The move may have been 4 years earlier.. I just plain forgot the Angels.
I remember Pascual and Killebreew of senators I well. Iʻm not sure I ever saw Senators II

The outstanding players of senators II, as I remember it were ss Ed Brinkman and 1b Frank Howard. But Bob Short, the owner proved to be almost as bad as Griffith had been with Senators I , and he lost Brinkman (to the Tigers?), and eventually moved the team to Dallas/Fort Worth as the "Texas" Rangers. Of course managers JUST LOVE to lose a reliable shortstop! The Brinkman case was thought to be Ted Williamsʻs main reason for becoming disillusioned with the franchise. He is said also to have liked Washington better than Dallas/Fort Worth. He was retained just for the 1st year of the Rangers.
"Can you name the other two new teams (of the 1961 expansion)"? --Jim53 in the "You Know youʻre over 50...." Thread

If there were 3 altogether, the 3 were the "new "Washington Senators, the New York Mets, and the Houston Astros (originally called Colt 65s?). If there were 4, Montreal Expos were the 4th (?) As I remember it (I was following mostly the AL by that time) Senators II were a little better than Senators I had been in their last few years. Manager Ted Williams was named AL manager of the year, I think in his 1st year managing them, --on the strength of having finished as "high" as FOURTH in the 10-team league!

Has any other city had THREE franchises in the last 56* years ? (Senators I, (went to Minnesota) Senators II (went to Texas) And now Nationals , but that has been a moved team, not an expansion team.

* The "moving era began in 1953 with the Boston Braves moving to Miilwaukee. The ALʻs St. Louis Browns moved to Baltimore (the same year?) and afre still where they moved to, which is more than the baraves can say.
Hi Jim - I hope you like Cataloochee - I found some of the old sayings quite funny and even if old Ezra turned out to be an SOB he cracked me up at times in the book. I read it just after I finished Ron Rash's Serena, which is set in the same time period and also explores the people's reaction to the idea of a National Park on their land. You might also enjoy Rash's fiction, I really have.

Thanks for your note -- I love the Shore! Easton is very quaint and quirky -- it's perfect for me right now. I practically grew up on the OBX in the summers though, so there's a soft spot in my heart for NC as well. :o)
Hey! Saw on the GD you are reading a history of Bethesda. I'm from Silver Spring originally, so I thought I'd send you a note in case you're from MontCo. too.

Missy
Thanks, Jim! I rather thought so, too. :)
Ho! The Green Dragon folks may wonder about our antproof connection, but your mention made me smile aloud! The fact that we share so many other books (29) also is warming. Getting old isn't easy but having LT and "meeting" people like you really helps keep me going. Thank you.
Yes indeed, I am a hiker. Well done to your wife for her progress on the Appalachian trail. One of these days I might do the John Muir trail, if my knees hold up. The western hikes are really spectacular.
Gah! Too much birthday cake. I've have never felt like I assimilated TSMD and now I know that's true!
I haven't read In the Bleak Mid-winter but it's on my TBR. It looks good.
Yes, Bester... Sometimes I think I like him better than Dick. Sometimes. Demolished is my favorite. Which is yours?
Thanks! and Hello! Are you managing to stay dry?
HO! Glad to know someone is reading Antproof!! It's one of my all-time favorites! Esta1923
Hi Jim

Never did post in your birthday topic.. so a belated happy birthday to you...
55, right? we are practically twins!

:D

Thanks for the nice words, Jim. Sometimes I forget that people are actually reading the reviews I post! (although I read others'.)

I haven't gotten around to Gene Wolf, but I keep thinking I should read him. Thanks for the recommendation.
Thanks for the note Jim. I just took a little look through your reviews and added a couple of books to my wish list - A Fine and Private Place and Dream Lucky. I was watching History Detectives last night on PBS and two stories were about FDR so Dream Lucky caught my eye.

I hope you enjoy the Sister Fidelma mysteries, I've only read the first couple, I keep thinking I will get back to Ireland for my next fix but that hasn't happened so I might have to do the internet thing to get more.

I'll be watching for your sense of humor on talk - Carol
Hope you enjoy Freddy. I picked it up last year -- it wasn't quite another Winter's Tale, but I liked it. Isn't LT great? I read my first Fforde this year because of all the positive comments I saw.
Hi Jim53-- nice to connect with you! I was just telling a colleague about Simon's Rock today. I hope your son enjoyed his experience there. Get him on LibraryThing and encourage him to start a Simon's Rock group :)
Hi Jim!

I'm so glad the stamps were a success. I had a lovely Christmas thank you - very quiet with my family and over to soon.

Best wishes for a very Happy New Year!

I'm so glad that you liked the books by Julia Spencer-Fleming. Where are you in the series now? I've read all of them so far and am completely amazed at how well she handles the relationships and keeps them fairly real. I believe there will only be one more book in the series, but she could change her mind. It's so hard to say goodbye to characters you love but you don't want them to become ridiculous either.
Jim, thanks so much for your comment..:)

I have not read any of the authors you mentioned but I have added them to my ever growing list. My current read is Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, another author I learned from here. I guess I have been spending too much time in my middle school media center..:)
Glad to meet you, and I am glad my joke made ya chuckle. I have a few more great ones but I don't think I can post them on this family friendly site..:)
Take care,
Cat
A quick note to say thanks for the tip about adding links to the P & L message board. I`m not much good at this stuff, as you can probably tell !
Thanks for commenting about Takver (aka Takkie Girl). She just passed in the last year, and it's nice to be able to mention her in a fun way with folks who don't say "Takver?!? Why would you name your cat that???"
I am glad someone else is championing Gene Wolfe in the Green Dragon. I mentioned him so much early on that people have tuned me out on the subject. :-)
Welcome to Fforde Ffans! I hope you enjoy the group.
