If you've been following the news about my writing group SPiN, you'll already know that Underground was published Spring 2009 and is the last of our three novels to come out. Now we're all working on new projects. Hooray! Check out our group website at http://www.spinwrites.com An article about SPiN can be found at the Globe and Mail on-line, http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/s...)

My own novel Conceit (http://www.librarything.com/work/3398865) is about the daughter of the English poet, John Donne. AbeBooks chose it as one of the Top Ten Hottest New Canadian Books of 2008 - thank you AbeBooks! http://www.abebooks.com/Canada/Features/.... There's a bookclub guide, a blog and a lot more info at my website, http://www.marynovik.com. Also a 17th-century backgrounds page and links to reviews and interviews like the one Sandra Gulland did with me at her blog, http://17thcenturyresearch.blogspot.com/...

If you get a chance to read Conceit, I'd love to hear what you think of it! You can get in touch with me here or via the Contact page on my website, http://www.marynovik.com/contact.asp

Hey Mary! Didn't know you where here :)
Best of luck with Muse. I'd be happy to read it for you and review it for my web site once it is completed. I'm doing some work right now for Sourcebooks, reading and reviewing advanced free copies of novels, and then posting reviews and interviews with authors around the time of the published release. I just finished reviewing Helen Hollick's The Kingmaking, and I'm currently reading Susan Higginbotham's The Traitor's Wife. My review of The Traitor's Wife will go up in April (April 13th I believe, I'll double-check the date).

Talk to you later.

Does your new novel center around the second papacy in Avignon? How far along are you?

Have you had success with your other novels and are able to write full-time now?

Sorry for all the questions.

Always nice to find others interested in medieval history. I found your profile through the Medieval Europe group. Any particular book you would recommend? What's your favorite non-fiction book on medieval history? I'm always looking for new books to add to my library. Thanks.

Hi Mary
I greatly enjoyed your book [Conceit] although my reading was interrupted for 2 weeks of holiday. I got it from the library and do not like to take library books travelling for historic reasons. I plan to buy the book for my Book Club (we exchange rather than sharing just one at a time). I enjoyed the rhythm of the language and the characters were real... I particularly enjoyed the relationship between the sisters and the chapters written from the mother's POV. I so envy your talent!
Hi Mary,

Yes, you did, and I'm reading Conceit right now! I'm also going to be on Gail Anderson-Dargatz's forum this Saturday (as a surprise guest), so was reading over old forums of which you were a part!

You live in Vancouver, don't you? I would love to get together for drinks and book talk one evening. Let me know if that's something you could fit in.

Cheers

Hannah
Hi Mary - sounds like a fascinating project, and quite an unertaking. I'm a huge Donne fan as well, so I'll definitely look out for it. Nice to meet you!
I noticed that my library has a copy. I will pick it up next week.
Hello Mary from Vancouver
I'm new to this also. It seems we have a lot of books in common. I've just finished The Cellist of Sarajevo (highly recommend it) and Cockroach (made me wince). Quickly read Sail by James Patterson, like eating jello. Just started The Condition. It seems like it will be a real meal deal.
I will definitely look for your book...it sounds intriquing and I do have a gift certificate for Chapters!
Loosha from Kelowna
Can't wait to read your book--it's not out in the US yet but has been on my wish list for several months.
Hi Mary,

Honoured to be "friended"! Your book has been on my to-read list for at least a year and I promise I will get to it!! It sounds exactly up my alley :)

Nice to meet you, Mary!
Thanks for connecting over LT! I look forward to reading your book and browsing your web site, too. Always on the lookout for the new and exciting in Canadian literature. ~~Christine.
Thanks for adding me to your friends list, Mary. I'm honored - especially since you are an author. You have a skill I covet! I'll look diligently for your book. It sounds like something I'd really like. I met a couple of LibraryThings from British Columbia this summer at a Green Dragon get-together in Seattle. Look for katylit and sandragon sometime in the profiles.
