I would recommend Lazslo by Roderick Anscombe. It's a retelling of the Dracula story, except the fanged vampire is in fact a sociopathic killer who gets his kicks from slitting the throats of his sexual flings. Pretty dark.
oh wow! I'm so linking this cause maybe I might get some of them =D
Not sure how to fit this in. The book was Contact by Carl Sagan. It contained the most disturbing idea I have ever read. The notion that buried deep within Pi there was a message. The ramifications of this idea keep up that night and have returned to my mind many times.
No, I haven't read the entire comedy yet. Will someday return to it (along with the million or so others I've promised myself to return to and finish). I was lucky in obtaining the copy I did...at a used bookstore in Lakewood, CA for six bucks. Not even close to pristine condition, but I wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. Good luck with your studies.
Thanks for the invite! I see from your personal page your high praise of Dante's Inferno. I second it. My edition has the famous drawings in it throughout, which really adds to the infernal tone and ambiance of the work.
ArmyAngel1986 has graciously offered to take over maintenance of MostDisturbingBooks.

Thank you so much, Angel!
Hey, if you haven't turned over the username to anyone yet, I would be glad to maintain it for you. It sounds like a really fun project!
Harry Potter? What? And what about A Song of Stone? *shudder* Two of the deaths in that book will haunt me the rest of my life. I'm not sure how I feel about the project, because the whole concept is clearly very subjective.
Funny how I have only four of these books, and didn't find any of them slightly disturbing. Although, now I have a few more books that I might "like" to read one day.
This is a fantastic project you've done to share with everyone else. Thanks for adding to our collective enjoyment of LT
I've been avoiding the thread, so I'm surprised that this turned into such an interesting library. Thanks for undertaking this project, it's another of those unanticipated surprises LT is so good at providing.
I proudly proclaim owning 41 of your books. I'm bummed that several others out there own more. I have my own disturbing tag and am pleased that others out there enjoy being disturbed too; so much so, in fact, that an actual group of disturbee's would form as a result.
Fascinating project!
Good grief! me thinks you may have too much time on your hands:-) And maybe it's good to know that I'm not high on the 'users with Most Disturbing Books books'....I think. I'll bet the 'Haunting' title above is the Palahniuk "Haunted"; what do you think? Best, Lois
