Very funny! It is cute. It might've been risque when it was written, albeit amusing. Now it is simply delightful! The ending was a little too arch for these times but in the 60's when it was written it was probably ground-breaking!

I read mostly Young Adult and Juvenile titles because those are the books in my collections (and because I love those collections). I recently read Suicide Notes by Michael Thomas Ford and Cold Skin by Steven Herrick. I really enjoyed both of them. Lots of great angst!

I'm am good. How about you. It looks like we have a lot of kid's books in common. Do you have a child in your life? Mine is grown now, although I've worked with kids a lot, but just not recently.

Thank you. I'm an English teacher, so there tends to be a lot of classic literature, but I also enjoy science fiction, fantasy, mysteries and historical fiction (or any combination of those). I'm working on a novel that's part history/part mythology, so there are also a lot of reference books.

Dear Husband is an excellent collection of short stories by Joyce Carol Oates. (She is one of my favorite authors.) if you are new to reading short stories, this is a great book to start off with.

Nice to hear from you, Olivia.
I have enjoyed fine wines for several years. Especially from Bordeaux, and California. Oregon is the up and coming wine region, so you will be able to get good wines close to home. As you can see from my tags , I have 60 books on wine. It is a good reference library. But the best way to get to know wines is to drink them. (in moderation, of course). It is a fun hobby. We get together with friends and taste different wines. You should try it some time. let me know how you do.
On a different topic.
My daughter Sara will graduate from college in two weeks. She will have an elementary teacher certification. I hope she can find a job. when she does, I will tell her about your site and your interest in childrens books. Stay well, Carmelo

Olivia, Sorry to be so slow at getting back to you!
If you like period mysteries, you might like the Barbara Hambly "Benjamin January" books. They are about New Orleans just before the Civil War (first book takes place in 1833). I didn't know anything about New Orleans in that time. It was very different from the South that had been English!
I notice someone said they were reading the l'Engle books, the Wrinkle in Time series. I really like those. I read them again and again, just like I read the Narnia books pretty often, too. (I like fantasy!) Those series seem much more positive than Lord of the Rings. (I can't read too much of that without getting kind of depressed, even though they win the war, they lose, because the Elves leave.)

I read Morrison's Beloved and like it, which other book by her would you recommend?

RE: "The Great Train Robbery"

I really enjoyed Chrichton's fictionalized tale.
My understanding is that he strayed from the original details of the crime, but
as a work of fiction, the story makes for an enjoyable weekend read.
This early work of his is much better than the last few novels he wrote before he passed on.

I've read a few Patterson books and I really liked "Cross". In fact, after finishing it, I'm looking forward to reading "Cross Country". Cross is fast paced and sort of like a thriller. I haven't looked at the kind of books you read, but if you enjoy murder-thriller-mysteries, then you would definitely enjoy this.

Hello - I have been a little slow with my email lately. I've been spending a fair amount of time reading the Wrinkle in Time quintet to my kids and I've been on a nonfiction jag myself lately with lots of books about food, science, and sustainability. Currently I have a few books friends have given me including The Holy Longing, and The Good Earth. I've also got Out of Our Heads by Alva Noe in one room and I'm re-reading Blue Shoe by Anne Lamott at the couch. I've always had a problem about having many books going at any given time so that I where ever I am if I have a moment, there is something to read at hand.

That is very hard to do since I don't believe I totally like any one authors works; but, if I had to select one it would be Toni Morrison because they are so well written and in depth. If you are looking for something different, I would suggest Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower or Kindred. Both very good books.

Hi, which ones. I am a big fan of Thornton Burgess. My grandmother would read his books to me and my grandfather when I was a small child and I credit that experience with my future love of books. I read mostly SF and Historical fiction but love books about the nature and about learning. I check out your site and I will have to look for your book. My daughter is 3 1/2 and I have to read to her every night. I hope she will fall in love with books as much as I have.

yo! you asked what I was reading? mostly its various things for homework (oh, the life of a college student): textbooks in personality and social psychology, "God is Dead" by Steve Bruce, and selections of the New Testament in Greek. For fun, though, I've got the Book of Mormon, Tict Naht Hahn's "Peace is Every Step", and the Thirteen Principle Upanishads (the primary Hindu holy texts) sitting next to my bed with the hopes of soon starting "Hymn of the Universe" by Pierre Tielhard de Chardin or rereading the Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey.
