Sobre mimKing's published novels are RETREAD SHOP (1988) and ANCESTOR’S WORLD (1996; with A.C. Crispin). His poetry has appeared in the collection MOTHER EARTH'S STRETCH MARKS (2009), Motherbird Books. His short stories have appeared in Analog, Pulphouse, Tomorrow, Absolute Magnitude, The Silver Web, VB Tech Journal, Expanse, Aberrations, Figment, Pandora and Midnight Zoo magazines, and in the collection JUDGMENT DAY AND OTHER DREAMS (2009), Wilder Publications. King writes hard science fiction, anthropological SF, dark fantasy/horror and contemporary fantasy/magic realism. He is a graduate of UCLA (M.A. 1976) and the University of Tennessee (B.Sc. 1971). He has worked as an archaeologist in the American Southwest and has traveled widely in Europe, Russia, Japan, Canada, Mexico and the United States. Other jobs have included short order cook, hotel clerk, legal assistant, telephone order taker, investigative reporter and newspaper editor. In past years, King was a Tennessee hippie, belonged to the Southern Students Organizing Committee (SSOC), started up the Shinjuku Sutra in 1967 (the first English language underground tabloid in Japan), helped lead the first anti-Vietnam War demonstration by expatriates in Tokyo in 1968, helped shut down the UT-Knoxville campus in 1969 during the Cambodian Invasion by Nixon, and led a sit-down demo at UT-Knoxville during a 1970 visit by Vice-President Hubert Humphrey. His three grown children are Keith, Karen and Kevin. Within the SF community, King has appeared at many conventions, served as SFWA Elections Chair in 1990 and was chair of the Philip K. Dick Award jury in 1996. Tom now rabble rouses in Silver City, New Mexico, USA, where he writes speculative fiction, poetry and freelance non-fiction. Finally, the Freebase link of King with an actor is incorrect; King has no acting connection.
