Sobre mimI'm not sure how many thousands of books I've read, but my pace has slowed down quite a bit now that I'm trying to write them as well. I have two middle grade novels out, SAVING THE GRIFFIN and DEFENDING IRENE, and a third on the way. Since one is a fantasy for younger middle grade readers, another is a sports novel for upper middle grade readers and the third is a YA mystery, my editor at Peachtree has politely suggested that I think about picking a major.
Sobre a minha bibliotecaMy favorite novels tend to be fantasies and mysteries written for children, young adults or adults. The reason that most of the books on my list are so highly rated is that I'm only sharing my favorite ones, the ones I've read repeatedly. And I'm not necessarily talking about quality so much as that sheer Velveteen Rabbit kind of love: these books have become real to me.

Uaou! (Wow!)I truly am thrilled to hear that SAVING THE GRIFFIN is on a poster with the other nominees. In fact, I'll probably roam around the house smiling for the rest of the day. One of the reasons that I write is for the dream of having a young reader get lost in one of my worlds for a few hours just like I've been lost in the worlds of other readers. That's why making it onto the Georgia Book Award list of nominees was so delightful.
Today I'm sending a possible companion book to SAVING THE GRIFFIN to my agent. Her reading week for clients starts Monday, so I've been madly putting on the final touches. Kate and Michael are in Egypt for this project. My sister teaches at an American School south of Cairo, so I was able to make a research visit.
And if you don't mind, I'd like to shamelessly promote my first novel, DEFENDING IRENE to you in case it's in one of your local libraries. Yes, it's a sports novel, but it really gives a good idea of what it's like to live in the Italian Tyrol. We lived in the town where the book is set for three and a half years.
So thanks again for all the news!!!

Today, I went to the first day of the literature conference where the Georgia Book Award nominees for 09-10 were presented. It was great to hear your book introduced to those in attendance. The website has finally been updated (http://www.coe.uga.edu/gcba/) if you want to see the whole list. A company called Bound to Stay Bound Books, Inc. gave us posters that picture all the new nominees. I'll be hanging mine in my classroom on Monday!
Congratulations again, and good luck!
