I'm so glad you think that, because those are my feelings too! It's one of the very few I've challenged somebody with that I haven't read yet, so will add it to my challenge list for next year with the others. Like you, I couldn't resist the book. Good luck when you get to Mein Kampf; I don't think that's one I'll manage.

That's more than OK, Tess. I loved the book you challenged me with last year (another non-fiction!), and this looks as equally promising. Thank you.

I hesitate a bit on the book I would like to challenge you with. It's a huge read, but one I've been intending to get my teeth into for a while, and I'd welcome somebody else reading it as well. However, if you feel it's a bit OTT, then I've got a couple of backups. It's Ian Kershaw's biography of Hitler. Not the usual challenge fare I know, but I couldn't resist it when I saw it on your LT list, as meaty non-fiction doesn't feature very often on the forum, so when someone else shows any sort of interest...! (Size-wise, you couldn't get a bigger contrast to my challenge to you last year!).

Hope you like the idea, but if not, or it's not on your TBR list, do say, and I'll change it.

Hallo there,
Lovely to 'meet' you! I think I have a way to go before I get as many books in my library as you do. Unfortunately the years and several house moves have lead to a 'cull' some time ago but I am now working my way back up!
I did notice your library before and added it as an 'interesting' one. I noticed our similar taste, especially the variety in sci-fi, classics and the Coelho books which I have enjoyed.
I haven't got around to reading the JG Ballard books yet though.

Lovely dog by the way!

I had so much trouble deciding on a book for you - there are so many that I think you will like; however, I eventually decided on 'Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe' by Fannie Flagg, who is one of your listed favourite authors and a book I very much enjoyed at the time.

Chaos - I like that! Skeelo is (modern) Greek for 'dog'. We love Greece and all things Greek so it seemed a natural choice. I've posted photos of him on this thread (http://www.librarything.com/topic/29257) at nos. 75,76 and 226 and I freely admit to being utterly besotted!

And I love Staffies too! (Nothing against JRs, just a rather special soft spot for Staffies.) Skeelo always seems to get on very well with them too. And at 6 years old now he's very nearly a contemporary of Billy's. I'm sure they'd be great friends!

So now I have to ask - do you have a 'partner' or any kind of housemate who either loves or hates all your books? I am 'blessed' with a non-reading husband who simply cannot understand why anyone needs more than three books. Out of some show of consideration to him I have to try and keep the numbers down a bit (it's a small house) and that drives me crazy - having to pick out books to sell or give away every time the shelves start overflowing. Luckily our daughter is living back with us temporarily so I can keep pretending all the extra books belong to her, but she won't be here forever and then I'm going to be forced into another clear-out. How do you manage?

Wow! 600! That makes me feel soooo much better! My own is around 150-200 and I've just realised that I'm going to have to take a whole year off buying anything if I'm ever going to read them all. I don't know how things got so out of hand, because I really DO buy books to read, not just to display. At 600 I imagine you get to a point where you don't worry any more? Or certainly where you don't sleep. I keep hoping for some kind of siege where I'm forced to stay in for weeks on end and do nothing but read, yet can't get to the computer to order more books. It's the only way this is going to work out for me.

Hi there! I've been meaning to get a good look at your library for a while now as you always come at or near the top of my 'shared books' list. I see you have recently added The Life That I Have by Leo Marks and I just wondered whether you have ever read Between Silk and Cyanide by the same author? Probably like most people, I came to him through a love of 84 Charing Cross Road and BSAC is a wonderful book all about his days of working at Bletchley Park. I can highly recommend it! I also see you have Shantaram - the book I'm burbling incessantly about to anyone who will listen at the moment. I'm part-way through it right now and I'm completely engrossed and hanging onto every word. Just wondered whether you have enjoyed it too? Finally, I see you are another Brit. We are few and far between on here so I do try to say Hi whenever I spot another one. Happy reading!

P.S. I see Mitch Albom is one of your favorite authors. I grew up in on him and his columns in the Detroit Free Press (Michigan) and then fell in love with his books. He is considered one of the best sports writers of all time, but I think his literary writing is very good too.

I have finished "The Gargoyle" and loved it. I was worried that the end might disappoint but no!

Now setting off on my top 2 nudged books - "Ella Minnow Pea, which I see you have too, is both charming and clever. Then I set off on your nudge "We Have Always Lived In The Castle."

And I see you have added "Little Boy Lost", which I thought was lovely, if a touch sentimental. The conclusion is unexpected but perfect. Did you know, I wonder, that there is a Persephone group on LibraryThing ... ?

Hello Teresa,

"We Have Always Lived In The Castle" is one of those books I never came across(the downside of living in a rural area) but I kept seeing on LibraryThing.So I ordered up a copy and now it is in my hands I am so glad I did. It looks wonderful and it's lovely to have another positive report.

Do come and join the Book Nudgers and move it up my TBR pile!

I have been admiring your pug book - my border terrier has a very cute pug friend!

Hi Tess, I've picked One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez for you. It sounds intriguing - gypsies and a manuscript - could be something I would enjoy. However, it does have mixed reviews so I am eager to hear your thoughts on it.
