Sobre mimDescription for my blog A Journey Round My Skull: "Unhealthy book fetishism from a reader, collector, and amateur historian of forgotten literature." (http://ajourneyroundmyskull.blogspot.com)

Sobre a minha bibliotecaI'm slowly adding my books to the site, trying to make sure the covers are correct (which often involves scanning them myself) -- one of the pleasures of using the site for me is to see all the covers grouped together. I'll then tag each book, and correct/add publication details whenever possible. I probably won't use LT to rate books. Finally, I want to meet other readers, so please get in touch!

I only recently connected your identity here with your eponymous blog. (Yes, sometimes I'm slow on the uptake....)

Some good stuff there, thanks.
Thanks for your interesting website.
Dear Journey 'Round:

Thanks for the invite (apologies for not replying sooner.) Your blog is one of the best things I've seen on the internet in awhile -- dangerously high levels of awesomeness!

NGM
hi
good! we don't have any books in common, really. Of course, that is overlooking the fact that I have only cataloged a mote of my cosmic's eye universe of books. Thanks ever so much for never submitting any twee wood pixies to the trippy hippy pool, I am ready to torch the 60's sentimentalists. Tell me you drink tea.- Ang
Will - thanks for the add and the request. Appreciated.
I LOVE your library. SO many books to add to the wishlist... Happy to talk books any time you please.

I am astonished by the read rate of many LTers on this site that seem to get through 20 odd books a month. I am not among them unfortunately as my reading is confined to commuting hours and snatched hours here and there. AND I do sleep at night (whenever work permits) but I try to get the most out of the time that I do have for reading (of course, the reading itself gets in the way of trying to find time to write..!).

Looking forward to following your reading on your blog.

Pummz
Thank you for dropping by. Most of what I own is heavily duplicated in other people's libraries. I must say that the whole LT experience so far has been an adventure. I'll keep visiting you from time to time!
Peggy
You say that you want to meet other readers, Will. I'm not sure that you want to meet me. I found you at Larry Riley's "interesting libraries" or friends..... I recognize the names of exactly eight of your favorite authors, and I can add The Wine-Dark Sea and The Anatomy of Melancholy to the 16 others I have catalouged that we have in common. At any rate, I am off to read some of your reviews. The world of literature looks a lot bigger a month and two weeks into LT than it did before.
Cheers!
Peggy
thank you for your quick response but my ignorance in these matters is inordinate...i can click on a link but that is as far as it goes...please do not go to any further trouble in attempting to educate me as i am quite certain it would be a waste of your time. i have no intention of reporting you to the leader and would most likely screw it up if i tried. a friend.
sir, i play on the fact that you too are a fan of the dark stranger to emotionally blackmail you into helping me get the ND cover into my library...i am not clever enough to scan etc. so no tech stuff please. if you do not help me i will report you to the leader of librarything and i will presume that you did not understand a word of what gracq was trying to tell you...your choice. a friend.
I was fascinated by your blog and couldn't resist browsing your Library thing. You have a wonderful collection. Thanks for sharing.

Shannon
I;m adding your blog and library to my new year's resolutions - effective January 20. Thanks for the connection.
Hi,

Glad to be your friend. Somehow the pink request from you got deleted before I responded to it, so please resend if there's something I need to check on that pink message to activate that.

Can I add you to my friends list? (Actually first friend)

Thanks
Hi

I'm new to LT and your name caught my eye because I've just ordered the book of the same name. I assume you've read it and would recommend it, or am I wrong?

You have a lot of interesting favorite authors, some of whom I will confess I've not heard of before, but that was why I joined LT. Always looking for books just a little off the beaten track. I'm looking forward to investigating all these new authors. I'm adding your library to my list of interesting libraries.
Glad to accept the friend request. Your interests cross mine in some special areas. To be honest, I find it nice to have someone whose shared part of our libraries does not include substantial amount of Bukowski. Not that I have anything against Bukowski, but the world of literature and thought has many other corners of interest as well.

I look forward to reading your blog & I added you as flickr contact as well. My flickr is mostly tourist pics but I enjoy your growing catalogue.

cheers.
Just reading some of your interview with Gilbert-Alter. Interesting.
Now I know how Rilke died. Poetic!
"Streetcorners" is an all-time favorite. Carco is definitely
under-rated.
Thanks much for the friend request. BTW--love your blog. I've shown it to some of the PhD folks in my office. Keep up the good work!
It's nice that you want to be my friend. You certainly have a wonderful collection of books. I really like the way you describe yourself as an "amateur historian of forgotten literature." I, too, am fascinated by neglected writers and neglected literary cultures, the B-list of the canon, etc. Though originally from Baltimore, I've been living in Slovenia since 2001. It is only in the past couple years, however, that my Slovene has advanced to the point where I can read complex literary texts with more pleasure than brainstrain. There is much to be explored.
You have a fine library here, I must say! And in fact, we no doubt share many more than 22 of the same books. I'm separated from my library at present, so it has been a job to recall my books, but looking through yours will be of immeasurable help!
Regards,
Lan Yitian
Hey, I just finished reading "A Journey Around My Skull". I had never heard of it before I saw your library (and user name). I loved it! Thank you.
Hey, thanks for the invitation!
Guess you know the problem yourself - my library is still work in progress. Funny to suddenly remember having read some books you already had forgotten.:-) I guess I may have added around two thirds right now from 20 years of massive bibliomania. I will try to use LT mainly as a database for my own overview, mixing library books as well as owned ones or others still to get my eager hands on with a simple B tag.
So read you soon.

Greetings
Neurasthenio
wow--well i'm flattered. so i've been adding books --it's slow because some of the most obscure ones i'm also taking photos of the cover which i think i am mentally incapable of doing so then i have to spend like 2 hours in photoshop to make it look even vaguely like the actual book....

so i looked at my shared books and there are over 20% that i am the only one who has it. i didn't realize that. in a way it's sad because some of them are SO beautiful....
Hi,

added you back. (Sorry for the delay - I was busy with the Jewish holidays and the start of the semester :O ) Mind if I ask how you found my library? Through Karinthy perhaps? (BTW cool username!)

prezzey.
hi--well thanks. i was going to say how amazing i thought it was that we had not a single book in common, when i noticed you listed rimbaud among your favorites.

so i went and checked. i think i must have skipped a whole bunch of my library! so back to work. (i'll bet we have some when i'm done)
got stuck on your blog for quite a while today... thanks for the friends invite, excellent library...
Thanks for the interest in my library. You have an impressive and fascinating blog. I look forward to your future book additions.
Will--keeping in mind that I am a Rangers fan.
Well, that blog of yours is a treasure-house; I'm ransacking it pronto.
Will,
I can't wait to explore your library, blog and Flickr. Great to see a fellow Europhile in Library Thing. And in Philly, no less.
ThinandLight
Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries. Oddly enough, I was perusing yours just yesterday.
Another FMU fan!
Thanks for adding my library to your interesting library list, and making the friend connection. Your library looks exciting in its seeming esotericism. Of books we share I especially enjoy Musil, Gide and Canetti. I also added a link to your homepage on mine.

Jim
I'm glad to have found your blog. Quite a lot of great stuff on there. I'm going to have to add a lot to my to-read lists. Seeing your your list of bookstores was nice, too - I used to live in Philadelphia and it brings back memories.
Your find Biology Today needs to be republished urgently. It is possibly an unknown masterpiece. Send it to Dedalus immediately, I beg you. It strongly reminds me of this, (although of course far more visual) in its general irrelevance:

[An Anecdoted Topography of Chance]

Your blog is a masterpiece of the weird and wonderful. I have learned so much.
Truly.
Murr
Now this is a pleasant surprise; just in the past few weeks I have discovered and been enjoying your blog, and now find myself honored by a first-rate chronicler of the forgotten and marvelous! Many thanks, and welcome to the library.
The J.R. Ritman Library in Amsterdam is having a Gustav Meyrink exhibition this fall. I saw some pics of the 1909 edition of The Golem on their website. http://www.ritmanlibrary.nl/index.html

I found a copy of the 1967 First American Edition of The Other Side on Abebooks. It's now on the top of my wishlist. I like the translators name, Denver Lindley. I wonder how it compares to Mike Mitchell's wonderful translation.

I've made a shopping list of books from your blog. Thanks for the information and inspiration.
Thanks for "friending" me (I'm still uncomfortable using that word as a verb) and also for deeming my library interesting. I will enjoy perusing yours as you continue to add books.

And thanks, too, for your excellent blog.

Best,

David
