Hello Ana, you have a superb library, well selected with no junk, and I love your comment about the television! I hope my profile has given you new insights into Volney, Jefferson and Franco-US history. I'll be glad to answer any questions regarding Volney, his views or how to purchase his books. Sometimes I've found learning about a new author is like learning a new word--once you learn it, suddenly it begins to pop up everywhere. If that happens with Volney please let me know. Thank you for your invitation to be your friend. I would say your personal library is more selective than mine, as you can see from my listings. I do admire many of the authors you admire, but I permit myself to read a much wider range of works, some not very serious. (So far, I have
been cataloging my serious books, which may give a misleading idea of my holdings.) Among the books you intend to read, I commend Murasaki Shikibu; I have enjoyed both the Waley and Seidensticker translations of the Tale of Genji. I have a more recent one I have not read yet.

paintings, which are very interesting. I especially like the fourth one: http://www.interkit.com.br/anaolinto/pag... I see that you like poetry by Emily Dickenson.
I live in New England, in the United States, which is where she lived. I see you have Madame Bovary. I enjoyed that
book very much. I read it, while listening to audio tapes, and so I heard the nice pronunciation of the interesting vocabulary in the book. I see you have George Eliot's journals; I did not know there were journals available. It must be quite interesting to read what she wrote. I have television, but do not watch very often. I received your invitation today. Thank you. I reviewed your library and favorite authors. You absolutely must read Count Lev Tolstoy if you've not already. And do not overlook his shorter fiction. I'm especially fond of "How Much Land Does a Man Need?" In fact, I very nearly chose to spend a few years attempting to learn Russian for Tolstoy (and Chekhov). I chose to focus on my Latin (for Spinoza) and my French (for Balzac) instead.

These days, I rarely locate someone who has literary and aesthetic tastes that are as close to mine as are yours. Indeed, rarely do I locate someone who also considers the Wallace Stevens's longer poems to be pleasurable experiences. I've not yet discarded my televisions; however, as the years pass, and as the pages turn, television viewing absorbs fewer and fewer of my weekly leisure hours.
