No, sadly I wasn't able to go to BEA. My company distributes the book in Canada so we have ARCs. Haven't had a chance to read When Autumn Leaves yet, though.

Your user name caught my eye. Should I be interpreting it as "Avis Ann Schild", or "Avis Ann's child" or "Avis, Ann's child"?

I'm wondering because my mother's name is "Avis Anne", making me "Avis Anne's child". :-)

It definitely could have very well been me, but it's not. :) I grew up in a house surrounded by woods, in a house filled with books. And I have sort of curly hair. But, nope, not me. That would have been cool, though. :)

ACK!!! lol! Thanks for letting me know! I revised the review when I was re-posting to my new blog which I shouldn't have done obviously. I probably got books mixed up. Where I got the name Claire from, I don't know! (Time Traveller's Wife? Outlander?? Must be something with time travel involved, because that seems to be affecting my postings! hah!) I'm going to check it and fix the name. I really appreciate you telling me and happy new year to you too!

For what it's worth, it doesn't seem as though Penguin has posted my review of "Varieties of Religious Experience" either--they seem to be running as behind on the posting as the sending out of books. The bright side, I guess, is that I may be finished reading it by the time I'm able to add my comments to your review!

Thank you so much for that information, I was already a member but I hadn't found the place to sign up to do reviews. I've made my request now. I'm so happy to have another souce for ARCs. I've done well with cold requests but they make me nervous and this is better. That was very kind of you. We should hit the 100 mark in books we share any time now. I'm glad to be your friend.

Hi Avis,

Thats okay I still have to reply to nitestar. It was a crazy weekend here. Went up north to a friends cottage for the day on Saturday, Sunday I started to get my son's stuff ready for school (double checking) and yesterday went with in laws vegetable picking. Today I take him for an hour and then tomorrow is a half day. The joys of starting kindergarden.

I am going to be posting on my blog the books I have to trade. If any peak your interest let me know and I will put them aside for when we meet up. I will be doing that this week some time.

Avis, thanks for the cross post to 1st Books on your blog! I'm glad you're enjoying the blog. I always find stories of how much work it takes to get a book published oddly inspiring too. I think it's because when you're not getting published as an overnight success, you think you can't make it. But even most of the "overnight" successes take years to get there.

I just had to tell you that I loved your book reviews. I have found that many people, avid readers or not, are not all that gifted when it comes to putting their thoughts down on paper. Reading your reviews was a lyrical experience. You're a wonderful writer.

Tuesday at noon would be fine. Can you meet me at the Security desk in Place Ville Marie (the entrance is on University I think). Right by the elevators going to the 20th floor in 1 Place Ville Marie. I will be the one holding the book :) That works out great. I hope you are well. I was on the HC site the other day and noticed that they only have two books this month! I did not find all that many books on this site this time around (sigh!).

I live in Verdun and work at PVM regular business hours. Just let me know if its easier for you to meet me downtown or closer to Verdun and when. The only night I am really committed to something is Thursday night, or we can meet at PVM during lunchtime on Thursday if you would like. Just let me know. Thanks.

Hi Avis,

No, I haven't read anything else by Elizabeth Gilbert (although I have a couple of her other books on my wishlist!). I had to put her on my list of favorite authors because Eat, Pray, Love had such a profound impact on my life, and I thought it was so well-written. Subsequently, I've seen her interviewed in different places, been to her website, and it seems like she's such an awesome person. Enjoy the book! I'm planning to re-read it again before the end of this year.

Hi: I hope you are surviving 'the move'. I had the same HC problem. I was told to send my reviews to:

so you could try that. Apparently, the website is not working properly and they are planning on launching a new one soon. In the meantime, I have been sending my reviews to this person, but this person is only to send reviews to. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the book offer, unfortunately, its not really what I read. However, if we can exchange any other future books that would be great.

I finally heard from some of the publicists on Shelf-Awareness and I am getting two books (YEAH!). All hope is not lost.

Hi: Thanks so much for the link. I have been lucky enough to get a book for the last 3 months. I got Dating makes you want to die. I just finished it and I am working on my review. I love HC. I have been totally unlucky with Shelf-awareness (as I mentioned). Its sometimes hard to hear about all the people on this site who seem to be getting so many free books from so many different places. I am happy for them, but I have to admit to being a tad jealous!

I have also noticed that there have been a few rough patches on the forum board on this site lately - I find book people can be weird sometimes about their books :) I never re-read most of my books and I don't have the space to keep them all so I like to give them away if I can - so I am always a little surprised when I see so many people being so militant about not giving their books away.

What books have you gotten from HC? Some months, their selection is better than others. TINA

Hi: Its nice to hear from you. Yes, I have to say that I do believe Comtesse de Segur holds up - of course, she is not JK Rowling, but I find her stories are still fully of love, mischief, harmless and depict a kindler time - which, I think, will appeal to some teens. I had a used bookstore for 4 years and it amazing to me the amount of adults around my age who came in to buy these books. The plan was to re-read them and then hopefully pass them along to their kids. My favorite in the series was Les Malheurs de Sophie!!! I have read and re-read that one about 20 times over the years.

As for the Butala book, if you want my arc copy, you can have it, if you want it. I work downtown so maybe I could just meet you and give it to you. Let me know. I am off to Toronto in a few minutes and won't be back until Friday evening. I will try to check my email, but it will be a little tough.

I had no idea they were making a movie of The Secret Life of Bees. I'm thrilled. When I read the story, I imagined Jena Malone as the main character. She may be too old now... but it will be difficult for me to imagine someone else in that role.

I'm looking forward to delving further into your library, as I expect I'll find lots of ideas for good books there (as if my tbr pile isn't already the size of a small mountain!). I was very excited to get [The Wishing Year]. Assuming I'm willing to part with it after I read it (which I never know, of course, until after I finish it), I'd be happy to send it on to you. How are you liking Weaving a Way Home? That was my March book also, but I haven't received it yet.

Hi there. Yes, I archived all of my comments. It was getting quite full! Start the Plath group and I'll be the fist to join! Would love to read the book you've just finished. I'll have to add it to my list. I finished Chocolat and have added Joanne Harris to my favorite author's list. Just love her prose! Believe it or not, I am reading Terry Goodkind's Wizard's First Rule. It's not my usual fair, but easy reading and, at the moment, fun, though on the gory side at times. We'll see.

RE: Ann Patchett.....

No, I actually haven't read all of her novels, and here's the funny thing - it's hard to recommend a specific one, because they are very different. I have read "Truth and Beauty" (that's what actually got me started), "Bel Canto", "The Patron Saint of Liars", and "Run". I don't even think that any of them would make my favorite books list, but she is still one of my favorite authors. I think it is because of the way she is able to, every so often, write a sentence or paragraph that just takes my breath away. I also find her characters very interesting - they always have lots of dimensions to explore. So I don't know how helpful that was *grin*, but I think if you liked "Truth and Beauty" you should definitely try another - I think "Bel Canto" is probably her most well know, "Run" is the most recent.....again, not very helpful, I know. =)

What a lovely name! Don't worry about the second message. If that is the worst thing you have done recently, you are doing quite well. I know what you mean about LT. I have never been a "social" Internet user... until LT. Now I am talking to people and spending more time online and finding tons more books to add to my wish list. So, like you, I have tripled my book list and spend even less time reading. Whats up with that?? LOL
