Thanks for the heads up BJ... I'm still deciding which group read to do in January. I want to read Moby Dick but I didn't realise that there was another Anna Karenina group read starting the same day, I missed the last one! Typical, you wait a while for your next perfect group read and they all come along at once! :-)
Thank you for the well wishes. And thank you for reading along with me. I love discussing books!
Hiya! Thanks for dropping by. I'd just seen an advert with a picture of Susie, from the Lovely Bones film---talk about Brrr---and hearing from you again made it less chilling.

In case you've been on vacation, too, we've missed you.
The more I consider it, I think July might be best. That way if any others want to join and they're doing the Oct-to-Oct timeframe, it won't be too late. If you are agreeable, I'll let Cindy know so she can post it on the group read list.
Hey BJ...
Haven't been doing much computing lately but just wanted to thank you for your kind words on my 50 book thread: we lost my mom and mom-in-law 31 days apart and we're just getting back on our feet again...

Happy reading!!

Kathy
Yay! I'm excited about reading it with you.
Hey there,

I don't know whether you're doing much in the way of book-buying these days, but I noticed there are currently three Folio Society Arabian Nights 6-vol sets available on ebay, all within the U.S. I remember we'd corresponded about this set, and how it's not often available from a U.S. seller online.

I continue to lurk in and enjoy your reading thread!
Hey --BJ;
Thank you for your response. I will let Mark know that
you have read the one, but it sounds as if you will take
part in either? Is that a correct guess from your post?
Hope things are going well in your neck of the woods.
I will catch you on the threads my dear.
love,
belva
Hi Billiejean:

I saw your post on Cauterize's 75 book challenge thread about Kim Clijsters and the US Open - I thought you might like to check out the Tennis, Anyone? group. We're having fun with the US Open right now and would love to have you join in.

karenmarie
Hi;
Mark and I have been discussing the possibility of another group read in November and want your input. We have narrowed it down to two books at this point. "The People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks and "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. So chat it up with friends or us and let us know if you are up for it and what you think. Probably the same plan as with "Pillars of the Earth" which seemed to work out perfectly for almost all of us.
Think it over and give one of us a shout.
hugs and looking forward to hearing from you,
belva

Hi --BJ;
Just got home late yesterday and wanted to stop over and say "Hey, how's it going?"
Have you been reading any good books while I was gone? I only read one complete book while at Robbi's. "Battle Cry of Freedom" and it was mesmerizing. She and my friends kept me very busy for all of the 2 weeks. I was able to almost finish another on the flight home.
It was soo good to get home until I got home and found the dishes hadn't been done in 2 weeks; my last coffee cup was still in the sink. But apparently they ate out a lot. But the hubby took awesome care of the grandsons while I was away and of my mother also (and was happy to do it so I could go and spend some time with Robbi) so I didn't say anything about anything. I am just so appreciative that I was able to go and be with her for those two weeks. I got up at 5 A.M. today and cleaned the bathroom and did the dishes. The rest I will catch as catch can, but at least now the bathroom doesn't smell like a latrine and when I want to eat I can find a clean dish. So it's all good.
We went to the Pocket Sandwich Theater while I was there and they were showing a vaudevillian type play in which the actors interact with the audience. Popcorn fights are the rage and we had a blast throwing popcorn at the actors and other patrons and having popcorn rain down upon us as well. I can't wait to go back the next time!~! It was so much fun.
And they have Half Price Books stores all over the Dallas/Ft Worth/Plano/Irving/McKinny area. I think we hit everyone of them and I had to go to the P.O. and ship books home so as not to have to pay the heavy toll to check baggage at the airport. I travel so light. One very small back pack and my purse. That's it. Needless to say I do a lot of laundry while there, but traveling light just works for me.
Missed you and our conversations while I was gone. Can't wait to catch up on your thread and all the others. But I wanted to say hello as I know it will take time to play catch up.
Will see you on your thread.

I'm glad that you liked the group and joined.:) Now I'm only looking for an A-Z author challenge. I love making lists, afraid, It doesnt help me to read faster or stick to any of them, but it helps me to keep in mind the titles of my TBR books.:) This challenge is especially great for me because it has no deadlines!

Happy reading!
From a picture, it's kind of hard to tell what instrument I'm playing :P Don't worry, I've had people make the mistake at concerts when my name is clearly listed under the viola heading rather than the violin. It's not a big deal to me anymore.

I'm glad to meet another B&N edition fan. They really are great! They're cheap, but they have great introductions and notes throughout. I also love that some of them come in hardcover for usually only an extra dollar. I'm a big fan of hardcovers so that's really nice for me!

Don't worry about being behind in entering books. I'm at least 75 books behind and I'm still trying to go through my library and sort it out, collection style. I've got about a third of it done but it's such a tedious task that I find it hard to stay focused. After I'm done, though, I plan on going through my library at home and finding the books I haven't added to LT. It shouldn't be too hard as my personal library is organized by author so I can just read through them and compare them to my LT author. It's just, like organizing my collections, booooooooring. ;-)
Thanks for the complement on my library! I just noticed yours because you have such a fantastic poetry collection. I've recently become interested in poetry and I've been delving into different styles lately (currently I'm reading a collection of very contemporary poetry - Infanta by Erin Belieu). I've only briefed through poetry before, but I greatly enjoyed William Blake, Samuel T Coleridge and Dylan Thomas, I like what I've read of Erin Belieu, though most of it is going over my head :P

You also have some beautiful folios. I've long wanted to join FS but alas, I'm poor and must keep my book buying to cheap B&N editions (most are only $4-$7). I admit I was scrolling the pictures of your folios, drooling at their beauty. But just a little ;-)
--BJ;
Thank you for your note. You are a precious LT friend to me.
I will have to remember what you said about buying books on "obscure word origins" for birthday, holiday or just "blub u" days. She would love it!~!
Well, I am only on here for a few. Just got my shower and am getting ready to head out the door to my son's 43rd birthday "cake, movie and a dinner" kind of thing. Should be a lot of fun but I have an hour's drive to get there. So I will catch up with you later either tonight or depending what time I get home tomorrow.
luv ya lotz n lotz n tonz n tonz,
belva
BJ, thanks for your comments last month. I love checking out the LT lists and recommendations of others, as well. 'A bit too much, perhaps. I definitely am currently spending more time on LT than actually reading. Ah, it goes in cycles I guess.
wait! i said "picasso" because he's from spain, and because you'd recently visited the country, NOT because picasso is dead. was going to delete and re-post, but chances were you'd already saw it before i realized "give my regards to picasso [or any other dead person]" could also mean "die." sorry. and have a nice day free from blunders.
dang. always did wanted to meet a president (clinton doesn't count; didn't know what a president was at the time).

glad to hear it was a success. 2500 km, that's . . . ~1500 miles? I didnt know spain was that big. did you check out the running of the bulls in paplona? sorry, aside from de vega and cervantes, that's pretty much all i know about spain. bulls, penelope cruz and . . . hmmm, hemingway.

well, nice hearing from you again, give my regards to picasso.
that guy who wanted to sell his autographed book on eBay probably found out Checkov'd already died. Even if it was staged, it still makes for a nice story: "A funny thing happened on the way to Barnes & Nobles. . ."

Hope you had a nice trip. Where did you go? Wait, don't tell me, lemme guess. I've narrowed it down to two possibilities:

It's either the Annual Amtrack Mooning in Laguna Niguel, CA (every second Saturday in July) or ". . . Mr. President?"
No problem, BJ. I hope that you enjoyed your vacation.

Hi BJ. If your daughter is still reading Spanish books I just found out that Carlos Ruiz Zafon has some young adult books only available in Spanish. He has written two adult books that are bestsellers in Spain and here. Maybe she would like to check it out.

Hello BillieJean! Thank you for accepting and about the comment about the Picture. BillieJean, I look forward to with sharing, your recommendations, read what you think, and feel. To be enlightened in an exchange of experiences creates in me a wonderful sense of community. As corning as it sounds, BillieJean, this is what books do so well, I feel anyway. They can become the vessel through which we get to talk to each other, to learn about each other, to understand an oh-so human way -- and be the richer for it. Thank you HAVE a GREAT Night too ~ Ann
BJ, No problem at all! I got called in to work today and just got home,so it's been a long day. Please all your comments have been great and much appreciated. Anymore thoughts, bring 'em on! Are you going to be on vacation? If so, have a great time!
Mark

Blessings on your day.

--BJ;
Have a really wonderful time on your trip.
I will miss our "little cheerleader" on LT
while you are gone. We do have fun on here
don't we, you and I?
Yeah, I will miss you and our little visits.
I really hope that it works out so that we can
meet when I go to Texas. That would be wonderful
for me. You are such a dear, sweet and kind lady
and I love being your "friend".
Travel safely and go with God.
Affectionately,
Belva
BJ- Thanks for all your helpful comments. I'm winging it here, so I could use any assistance available. You mentioned vote-taking. Is this on ways to proceed? I'm hoping to keep this "read", as simple as possible. I guess the 1st step, is deciding how much to read at a time. I don't want to pressure anyone but then again, I'd rather not have it drag on for 2 months or longer.
Mark
Hi, just saw your comment on my 50 books post. I have tweens who wanted to read the Twilight books and know tons of moms who love them so I figured I'd "preview" the books. Personally I like better writing (I agree with Stephen King on her writing) and probably enjoyed the movie better than the book (a second - first was The Firm, I digress). But at one point after telling DH somewhere in the 3rd book that I didn't like them he said "but you keep on reading them". My advice: find an obsessed fan to loan you a copy. World without End was enjoyable and well worth the read, imo.
I see you like Liss. Just finished his Whiskey Rebels and enjoyed it very much and recommended him to the librarian! :) I know that I have turned many friends and acquaintances on to his wonderful writing.
"I keep telling my dog that she is a working dog, too, but she assures me that she is a vacation dog."

haha.
i had one of those eureka moments. i remembered what it was, from that last post. i was taking a shower and shinging "lonesome valley" when i got to thinking i should get around to reading [origin of species] because despite its size, [origins] isn't an academic tome, it's written in plain language and understandable not as a specialized work for highly trained scientists, but instead, this incredibly novel idea is narrated as a story, readable and understandable by everyone. it was plain, and sensible, in the same style of lincoln---beautifully articulated without cicero0like flourishes. which struck me as odd because i've never read it. and i remembered a book, [Angels and Ages] by Adam Gopnik. anyway, that was the book.

the opening theme from the sheep art. it was Magnificent Seven, right? i'm still awash with it all. to do it with people is amazing enough, but with animals? it's the years' first great spectacle.
i love it. loved the western theme. the mona lisa? stunning. now i know why she smiles. it never ceases to amaze me, what people can accomplish, when we put our minds to it. thank you. you just made my day.
Billiejean!

Thanks for stopping by to alert me to the next Highly Rated read. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to make this one. Too much end-of-school year stuff going on and my reading card is already pretty filled. And don't even ask about my 50 book challenge. I'm reading the books, but am failing on the postings. Oh well, maybe I'll catch up this summer while my daughter goes away for three weeks. I'll need something to keep my mind busy!

It's so good to hear from you. Hope all is well.

Teresa
i'm glad you liked it. have not read [wealth of nations], but have been meaning to for a long while now. and of course, the [communist manifesto], ever since lenin rose from his grave and marched with hands outstretched, moaning, "Must . . . crush . . . capitalism . . ." in a simpsons episode and my friend exclaimed "Holy Zombie Jesus!" I have been using that phrase at every available opportunity.

i'll make sure to tell my sister you said congratulations. i thank you in her name in advance.

gave up on reading origins of species when i saw that it was longer than gibbons'. checked out gould instead. and made vague commitment to read blind watchmaker. if you're interested, why not check out big hstory. it's the history of everything from the big bang to the present, bringing together all fields, from biology, chemistry, evolution, anthropoligy, and every other -olog and discipline imaginable. that's one thing that makes the american educational system better, well mayhbe not better but definitely more inventinve, that intellectual freedom where one's encouraged to teach whatever one wants. of course, there;s the risk of narcissistic self-indulgence, but one has the freedom to try it out, so as long as you take responsibility for your actions, it's all good.

there was something else. sorry, it seemed important a minute ago, but for the life of me, i can't remember what it was. so i leave you with this:

hey. just came across an article, thought you might find it interesting.

Thanks, Mama! And thanks for giving me the heads-up about the touchstones.

Saw that you got your Folio books- what do you think of Possession? And isn't Remains of the Day wonderful? I thought everything about it was just perfect.

I received my short stories of Gogol today--another triumph. I had received my Book of Common Prayer and Emma a few days after I messaged you last time. And the tote bag, which has turned out to be quite handy. (Back to working on Proust--so I have lots of heavy volumes to lug around with me!) I sure wish they were going to complete that Austen set--oh well!

You never need to apologize for talking about FS books--you're my Folio buddy. :)

i think the guy made $56/hr, if you count that last 20. that's pretty good. but why would they pay when there was someone right there offering it for free? i guess it's one of those pepsi/coke thing. or water/bottled water. it makes the less costly competitor look cheap.
