Hello bookjones, thank you for adding me to your interesting libraries. I see you are a fellow Chicagoan and fan of New York Review Books. I am part way through The True Deceiver right now. I am a Tove Jansson fan but am finding this very different than her other work.

Thank you for the kind words and the suggestions; but as I mentioned to another poster, my cataloguing impulses have dwindled considerably, and although I could continue fine-tuning the tags for a long, long time, it may be better not to head down that path.

And yes, it's a pity that we haven't talked more; I do hope you will visit or send an email so that we can stay in touch one way or another.

Noticed you liked Tim Gautreaux, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's similar to Gautreaux's work (Tim Gautreaux actually directed my master's thesis). I put in several Free Library of Philadelphia branches, and inadvertently made some duplicates, which now I have asked to be combined, but I also have asked for combinations from others for bookstores and libraries. I even poked around in other cities and found a couple of combinations to be done there, too. I don't know if it will be enough for a badge, but who cares, we have more accurate local pages.

I have also been adding photos for bookstores and libraries, with the ambition to have a photo or two of every one of the 54 FLP branches.

Some cities have plenty of bookstore and library venues, but some I find are rather sparse.

Thanks for the 'interesting libraries' add!

Can I ask a bit of advice? I'm going to be in Chicago for a week over Thanksgiving. I've been before, but have never tracked down an interesting used bookstore - full of the sort of quirky books that both you and I seem to gravitate towards! Do you have any recommendations? I love 'new' bookshops too - I've spent many happy hours in the Borders besides the Water Tower on the Magnificent Mile - but it's that insiders' knowledge to the city that I lack!

Well I am afraid both of us will have to wait until next year! I can't believe how bad the Cubs played! It was painful. I do hope that the Rays beat the Red Sox. In the National League I don't care

Hi, this being a big trade day in baseball Ken Griffey to the White Sox! I've been a fan of Griffey since his days in Seattle, he should have stayed there. If he would have remained healthy what a careeer he would have had. Oh well. So will it be a Chicago world series?

Now that you finished the Baxter, I am curious - what did you think of the ending?

We had quite the conversations around the office among those of us who read it early. (It was holiday time in retail, however, so I don't exactly recall the comments.)

I think most of us thought it was incredibly well written - every word had a purpose. We did have some different ideas, however, about exactly what happened.

I would definitely go pick up more of his work if I were you.

Bookjones: This is a reply to your message about "Grotesque". ("Just curious, but were you ever able to determine whether your UK version of Grotesque published by Harvill Secker that you mentioned in the "Where are you now?" thread was uncensored?"). No. I had an idea in my mind that the main character met a young relative that I thought was possibly a homosexual prostitute but I couldn't find him in a cursory relook through the text (I was very busy workwise at the time). But without knowing what was said in the original it's hard to know whether this edition was censored. From what I've seen with other books US versions can be censored when UK versions are not even when based on the same translation.
