I have actually not read either one (but I have since gotten copies of both for myself). They both got very good reviews and I had looked thru your library and thought that they might be good choices. I actually gve LT a few things to pick from.

If I could afford to live in Wimbledon I would too - I'm the other end of the tram line at Beckenham, just up from Croydon...

I can hardly wait for the holidays to start so that I can get some good reading time in - sadly I was supposed to have finished work already, but the worker elves had other ideas, but I am definitely finishing work tomorrow and can hardly wait for all that free time to develop into reading time, now I have such lovely books.

Its just snowed here again, just 1cm, nothing by Canadian standards, but it gives a hope of a white Christmas so keep you fingers crossed.

Oh...the Historian was too long for sure.

What did happen at the end...I just couldn't finish it....I "think" I stopped reading when they were in Istanbul? I even forget where they were.

Okay, so I just got The Angel's Game from the library and read it. I quited enjoyed it and although I think he could have chopped 100-pages off and it would have moved better. It reminded me of The Historian by Kostova. I will read Shadow on the Wind at some point and let you know!

I didn't enjoy The Historian that much, did you?

I liked the Angel's Game, but not as much as Shadow of the Wind...I agree...could have chopped off 100 pages or so.

Oh yeah! I'm excited to hear what you think about Ellen Foster. As I've said, I love it--and love every inch of that girl-- but not all my friends have. A Fine Balance is in my Top 100 books of all time, maybe even in my Top 25. Happy Thanksgiving! :-)

Thanks for accepting my friend invitation...we sure have a lot of books in common....I see you haven't read Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon....you will love it...that is my all-time favorite novel.

I made a trip to Barcelona to see all the places mentioned in the book. :)

Master of the Game was good as well....and The Thirteenth Tale...so many good books out there. :)

Mark and I have been discussing the possibility of another group read in November and want your input. We have narrowed it down to two books at this point. "The People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks and "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. So chat it up with friends or us and let us know if you are up for it and what you think. Probably the same plan as with "Pillars of the Earth" which seemed to work out perfectly for almost all of us.
Think it over and give one of us a shout.

170 books in a year is amazing, much less in 8 months! I show my page count partly to demonstrate that I'm not just reading children's books. I'm trying to read 500 books this year. So far my average page count is 292 per book.

I was brought up in Sanderstead, very close to Croydon, and went to school in Croydon itself. Small world isn't it? My mother's family are also Welsh. You must visit there, and even I haven't been to Ireland, but it is on our list of to go theres.

I can relate to the struggle in finding a home for all the books I buy. Perhaps "struggle" is too strong a word for it! My husband asked me the other day if I am trying to aim for the ceiling with the pile of books by my bed. Ooooops! He did say it with a grin.

That's a real shame. We visited Boston MA last year and, yes, I have to admit that I visited the bigger chains and they seemed very impersonal somehow. We have an award winning independant bookstore in our small market town....which is well supported, as well as a fantastic library.

Whereabouts in the UK did you visit? Any plans to re visit the UK? My friend from Boston is visiting next Spring and Iam solooking forward to seeing her again.

I have only just bought Guernica.....there was a great paperback deal on at WH Smiths over here in the UK. Such a sale could be called Fatal Attraction.......I can't resist books! I will let you now whether it is worth withdrawing from the library again!

I love browsing peoples' libraries. To begin with it almost felt like stalking....and I still sometimes feel a little uneasy. Just our good nature I guess?

Hi, I see our libraries have 221 book in common, so obviously we like a lot of the same books. I like many types of books and through this site have been introduced to many new authors that have become favorites. My TBR books have grown from a small pile to 4 shelves of books, and in order to save money, I have discovered the joy of using the library! Happy reading, Judy

I hope you like Rick Mofina's books. He's terrific. Very scary stuff! I slept with the light on one night.. He was kind enough to join my bookgroup when we read one of his earlier books and everyone enjoyed the meeting. He's doing so well and we are very proud to call him one of our own here in Ottawa!
