Sobre mimI live on a mountain top in Arizona in a log home. I write, read, and work on the computer. Semi-retired as I do some work as a headhunter for attorneys. Practiced law for many years and retired from that profession. Have several degrees among which is a MFA in photography. I paint landscapes and photograph them as well. Have started a book review column for Kingman Daily Miner newspaper which is published once a week. I am seeking to expand this to other newspapers on a regular basis. 10/8/08: Have now added a few other places where I write book reviews which are published. Midwest Book Review under the title "Clark's Shelf"; Desert Independent Blythe California weekly review; Lit Mob where on line reviews are published; Foreword Magazine doing reviews for their bi-monthly magazine.
Sobre a minha bibliotecaHave an extensive library of variety of books ranging from cooking to construction. Have gotten rid of many of them in moves around the country but still retain several hundred volumes. My music collection is extensive as I play jazz on my keyboard.
I am now adding about 3 to 5 new books to my library per week since I have been receiving many reviewer copies from publishers.
Am also receiving manuscripts in early stages of development so that I can review for back covers of books.

sholem aleykhem tayerer Clark,
If you like to configure "also on facebook" correctly you need to identify your facebook id no.
An easy method to do this is to start at
http://www.facebook.com/groups.php
then click at "my groups" and see the id no at the end of the opening url; for example:

Good luck and greetings from Munich, Germany

I am really enjoying Library Thing, and since I do not have sufficient bookshelves at the moment am boxing, and giving a box label for each box. What I need is a "handyman" partner who is interested in helping, maybe even in books.

I practiced law for 28 years and was a district court judge for 23 years, but now I do little but read, and it is much fun, even though I much enjoyed my work when I was doing it.

I met the author a few months before the book was released, when I was working at Watermark Books in Wichita, KS. She was in town from Lawrence,KS and we got to chatting about writing, her book, my book, and our mutual affection for Michael Ondaatje's books. So, that same day I put in my special order for BJPS.
The Permanent Press is one of the oldest independents, but I suspect you know that. I'm a big fan of the independent presses. They are publishing many more interesting, and challenging books than the big houses.

I live visiting Arizona in the summer. I was out in Scottsdale a few weeks ago. My occasional trips tend to be to the Phoenix/Scottsdale resorts. San Francisco is so ridiculously cold all summer.
That's great you can speak Yiddish. My conversation is liberally peppered with Yiddish words, because it's such an expressive language. However, I can't claim to speak the language, just a few words of it.
I wish you continued success with your writing.
Best,
Susan

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to share a very nice compliment. You really made my day. I haven't been writing these reviews very long, but I also enjoy it. I hope to keep improving. (Not all of mine are winners.)
I had a good time reading some of your recent reviews. I read Brad Meltzer's Book of Lies a few weeks ago, but I wasn't as delighted with it as you were. I thought it was one of his weaker efforts, because I have been a big fan of some of his previous thrillers. And I will soon be reading The Wonder Singer as part of Library Thing's Early Reviewers program. I'm looking forward to it. And I see David Liss's The Whiskey Rebels on your shelf. I don't know if I'll write a review, but I have to tell you that I loved it! I haven't studied American history in, uh, decades. The setting was fascinating, the plot complex, and I'm a little in love with the protagonist. I hope you enjoy it.
One more quick note, (And sorry for the unsolicited epic!) you appear to have an interest in Yiddish literature. I can't say I know that much about the subject, but I have an affection for the language. I have just started writing book reviews for Amazon.com through their Vine program, and I should be recieving a review copy of Songs for the Butcher's Daughter by Peter Manseau any day now. I am really looking forward to reading it. This novel might be of interest to you as well.
Thank you again for your kind words, Clark. I hope someone pays you an unexpected compliment today. :-)
Best,
Susan

And I wouldn't worry about Lookin' Back Texas yet - that was from the June batch and I know those books are still (slowly) trickling in. It really does take 6+ weeks some times.
Thanks for your patience!
