Sobre mimI'm a busy mom who reads as a form of therapy. I have two teenage daughters, one son, and 2 cats. I met my husband at Brigham Young University. We've been married for 17 years.

I learned to read when I was in a car accident as a 4 year old. I was stuck in a body cast with nothing to do. So I watched Sesame Street, and somehow, those letters all turned in to words. I've had a book on hand ever since. (usually more than one!)

Besides reading, I like to watch mysteries on TV, as well as cooking shows, Nature, and science shows. I also like to scrapbook when I have time and listen to music. I'm really interested in alternative health and my religious faith. But most of my time is spent keeping up with my busy kids, especially now that homework season has started up again.

So Hello already!

Yahoo! Avatars

Sobre a minha bibliotecaI love mysteries! My favorites are cozies, Golden Age, and English police books. I love funny mysteries, but anything too cute or full of quirky characters turns me off.

I also enjoy non-fiction books, although I get most of these from the library. I like science, cookbooks, history, natural or alternative healing.

I'm a big Harry Potter fan, but I love lots of different fantasy books. I'm not as into science fiction, but have enjoyed a few titles here and there. I'm a big fan of several fantasy writers and I'm always looking for another good series.

And I still read picture books!

Hope that tells you something about me. I'm a fast reader, but I love to reread my books. So I keep all my favorites. Any books I wasn't completely in love with will wind up being donated. So my ratings are skewed, since I only keep the books I loved. You can also find me on Good Reads. I belong to 2 book clubs, plus I am in the 999 Challenge, the 1010 Category Challenge, the Endless Europe Challenge, and the 50 States Challenge. Apparently my love of reading is fast approaching an addiction!

Happy Holidays Cindy!
Hey Cindy!
Hope you're doing well today. Do you want to set up a thread for reading Jim Butcher's Storm Front? I think there are about four or five us who want to read it in January.
Hi seeing as I seem to have volunteered myself to set up the threads for the Herodotus Group read here is the first one

http://www.librarything.com/topic/79011

This is the general(master)thread.

I have also mentioned this in the 75 book challenge group.

Thanks for setting the 1010 group up and l look forward to a year of interesting reading.

calm
Hey Cindy. I was looking through your 10-10-10 collection and I noticed you have The Kingdom Keepers on your list. It's also on my TBR and I'll probably read it in March. Knowing how fast you read, you'll probably get to it before I do. I'd love to know your thoughts on it. I hear Pearson is trying to turn it into a movie.
I also noticed you have The Seer and The Sword by Victoria Hanley. I really like that one and I hope you enjoy it.
Hi Cindy! Hope you're doing well.
Got another group read for you to post in the 1010:
In A Lonely Place by Dorothy Hughes the last week in January.
Thanks again!
Cindy,

Here's the link for the Dorian Gray read for the 1010 challenge.
http://www.librarything.com/groups/group...
I am going to post it on the 75 book challenge so that they can also join in.

Thanks
Cheli
Hello! Some of us are planning to read The Betrayal of the Blood Lily in February for the 1010. I've already posted a separate thread - just letting you know!
Hey Cindy! I know you are dying to read Storm Front. Shall we plan it for the beginning of January?
Thank you for your kind words. You made my night!
everybody wants to give up in week 2. Everybody doubts themselves in week 2. It's a very common thing. But don't give up, just pull yourself by your fingernails into week 3 and it will get better.
Hey Cindy! Did you decide to join us in the NaNoWriMo madness?
Cindy, have you heard of The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance by Elna Baker. I heard her tell a story on a Moth podcast. It's totally hilarious! I've put in a request for her book and if the rest of the book is half as funny, I know I'm going to have a good time. Happy reading! Bonnie
Hi Cindy! Oh, you flatter me!
Well, there are people who participate and don't do a "traditional" novel or who do non-fiction. For instance, a friend of mine and his brother wrote a collection of short stories last year. There's a forum on the NaNo site for projects like that and I bet you could find people thinking of doing the same thing you are. I believe somewhere on the NaNo site it says (and I'm paraphrasing) if it counts as a book to you, it's a book to them too. I would love to have you on board! It's a wonderfully supportive community and it's got great energy. So, if you do join in, let me know your user name. I'll send you a buddy invite.
cmbohn, what did you think of the Low Carb slow cooker? Did you try any recipes?
Hi;
Mark and I have been discussing the possibility of another group read in November and want your input. We have narrowed it down to two books at this point. "The People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks and "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. So chat it up with friends or us and let us know if you are up for it and what you think. Probably the same plan as with "Pillars of the Earth" which seemed to work out perfectly for almost all of us.
Think it over and give one of us a shout.
hugs and looking forward to hearing from you,
belva
Thanks! I'm hangin' and prayin'. It's about all I can do.
My husband is currently reading Butcher's Storm Front. It must be good, he can't drag himself away from it. Didn't even hear half the things I said to him yesterday. So, I'm excited about our read next year! I hope watching the Dresden Files doesn't ruin it for me...
Thought you may be interesting in my thread. Take a look

http://www.librarything.com/talktopic.ph...
Cindy,

I know that I lead a sheltered life , because today is the first that I have ever heard of Percy Jackson and it happened twice in one day - here and a trailer at the movies - I finally went to see Harry Potter HBP) I think I have to try this out. You said that you liked it, SInce I love HArry, will I like this too?

Cheli
Great! I'm going to go ahead and log the first one (Stormfront?) on my thread so I don't forget about it (which is why I make lists in the first place!).
Cindy, I'm also planning to start in on Jim Butcher. If you can wait and you want to do a tandem read with me, let me know. I've got a whole category to fill up!
Cindy, good for you for just starting the new 2010 group! The discussion seemed to be getting a bit heated...

I think this will work for everyone, unless they really do want someone dictating what they read, or want it to be more of a contest. There may be some who do and will start a different group, but I think most of us really enjoy defining our own plans and goals, and seeing what the others do, without feeling any need to judge or compete.

Ivy
Sounds good to me. I'll join right away, even though I can't really think ahead that far.
I like it!~! I think people will be very happy with either or both of those challenges. I certainly have appreciated this particular challenge and have grown through doing it.
Library Thing is the best thing to come into my life since my family.
I love it. It is so wonderful to be able to share your passion with people who have the same passion.
Thank you so much for all you do.
belva
Probably focus on the 999 x 2 challenge. I have a lot of broader categories in x2, such as "next in the series." I will probably go on a mystery-reading binge for awhile.

Maybe get going a bit more on the 50 states fiction challenge, too.
Cindy, I thought of you when I read a review on NPR of a book called: The Book of Essential Ingredients. It sounds like you'd love it. Bonnie
You can see "Diary of a wombat" here: http://www.diary.ru/~Ritulia/p50842577.h...
I scanned and translated it for my Russian friends. (Bad me, I know, but I coudn't live with the thought they'd never see this gorgeous thing.)
Don't be spooked by the Russian interface of the site. Just click on the thumbpics to see the big versions.
Hey, I love picture books too! *giggles* My all times favourite is "Diary of a wombat" by Jackie French. Made everyone around me read it, too!
Hi there! You'll have to tell me if you end up reading the Sesame Street book. It really was a very thorough look at how the show came into being and the long process to get to the first episode. Of course I also purchased the book since Oscar the Grouch was on the cover and he was one of my favorites! After reading your bio I can see why you want to read the Sesame Street book. Hope you enjoy it.
Dear Cindy

Thank you so much for a wonderful review of my debut novel WIFE OF THE GODS. I'm grateful for the time you took to read it and make your comments and it's much appreciated. Authors would be nothing without avid readers like you. Thanks again.

Hey Cindy - If you ever make it over to the east coast (near SC) I'll make you a peanut butter pie. My Daddy once had a reputation for them and I use his recipe (although I'm considering making some tweaks). We're actually having apple pie with dinner - the PB pie is for a friend's bridal shower tomorrow. BBQ is on the table at 5. I'll be taking notes and writing my review of the BBQ book sometime this week. You should see this meat - it's be-yoo-ti-ful.
Stephen Daubert's "Threads from the Web of Life" came to me by mail. . . I notice you also got it. Do know how we were chosen? (It seems to have been MemberGiveaway rather than Early Reviewer.)
Congrats on finishing the 999 -- that is awesome!
Mmm... Not liking the characters is always a big problem in a book. Thanks for sharing! It'll prepare me a bit when I read it!

Oh! So we do! And most of them are mine too! (Compulsive book-cataloguing. I still haven't added mum's cookbooks or the ones in boxes in the attic. Or, come to think of it, most of my dictionaries. Drat!)

Deep Secret was such a fun book! I was very, very pleasantly surprised with that one, although I'm sad to say that I still haven't got around to reading The Merlin Conspiracy. 'course looking at my tags you can see I haven't got around to reading plenty of other books either. ^-~

Oh, blogs! ^-^ Don't be surprised if you see me around yours either. ^-^
*gestures at April Reads thread* Of course now I have to ask why you didn't like Fire and Hemlock. ^-~ (I do always say it's a good thing I'm not a cat. Curiosity would've killed me by now if I were.) I thought it better to take the question out of that thread to keep it from potentially getting side-tracked. ^-^
Just dropping in to say Hi. I am glad you would like to be where I am, I find life with a young children and a little baby very busy and challenging, but wouldn't swap it for all the tea in China! It is a precious time, and I know that tomorrow I'll wake up and my babies will be teenagers too.
*hugs again* My thoughts go with you and yours, me dear.
Hugs and thoughts in your time of loss, hon. My thoughts and such are with you.

K
Just wanted to say that I am sorry to hear of your father's illness, I am thinking of you all.
Thank you.
Hi cmbohn,

I see you're offering a copy of the new "translation" (I know it's the wrong word but don't know the right one) of the Canterbury Tales on the Member Giveaways. I'm confused -- I don't remember the ER offering being an audiobook, but the one you have posted appears to be, based on the cover Which is it?
I'm planning on reading Cry, The Beloved Country in April as it fits in with a group read I'm doing on another librarything group, I don't think that'll give people much time.
Thank you -- that helps a lot! :D
Hey! Who wrote the new Canterbury Tales you've been reading? I'm assuming since they are new versions there is a different author. I just can't seem to find it anywhere -- is it out for general sale yet? Thanks! :)
So...I'm a New Zealander...

:P

Does he only want a postcard??
Thanks for asking. It went well--I have a couple of benign cysts. Well, they scared me to death first. Compression study, ultrasound, and an aspiration before they would say "all clear." I posted further details in the GD.
Again, thanks.
Yeah, I think it's totally natural to have real different reactions to books. I know I, myself, am very impacted by my beliefs and experiences--and that they have changed over time fairly significantly. For example, I just read Gardens of Water today and I was thinking about how differently (I think!) I would have felt about the daughter's actions when I was younger and without children myself. Anyway, thanks for the feedback and I'll try to be more courageous and just post what I'm thinking and hope others will feel equally free to do so on my threads. After all, that's what drew me to LT in the first place. Happy reading! Bonnie
Hi: I saw your note on my 999 challenge. I love mysteries, particularly cozies, but I am trying to broaden my reading horizons this year. Maybe limit my mystery reading to only half of what I read (which is still a lot of mysteries).

I am getting some good ideas for mysteries from your library. Margery Allingham, for starters. I've got a list of about 20-25 mystery authors whose books I reserve as soon as I hear they'll come out. Otherwise, I've been trying to read more older mysteries. I get a lot of ideas from the Rue Morgue Press catalog. I've also discovered, thanks to LT, that I've somehow missed a few books by old favorite authors such as Ngaio Marsh and Patricia Moyes.

I look forward to talking to you about mysteries.

Linda
I think I've only got like 6 left to collect, then I'll buzz the entire series (Upfield, that is!). I can't stand reading series books out of order!
I was wondering how you liked the Nero Wolfe book you read? I happen to be a big fan, and though the characters are all formed and set in their ways in the first book, their characters do become just a bit more refined in all the other books. If you did like it and want to read more, you might like the group The Black Orchid. Lots of fans there. :)
You haven't read Neverwhere? You should! I liked it better than American Gods or Anasai Boys.
I want wii fitness! How do you like it?
I haven't been on LT for a few months. I have been so busy at work over the past semester -- and it has been a really HOT fall in Florida. I hate the heat and humidity -- I find it very draining. So by the time I got home from work (around 5 or 6), I would just feed the dogs, do some wash, and fall into bed.

We're having GREAT weather this week. Cool (at least it is cool for FL, a balmy 60 to 70 degrees) and breezy -- I wasn't able to sit out on my patio at all this summer and fall b/c it was so durned hot and sticky. But it's a real pleasure to do so these days -- now that my furniture is clean! How was the Bill Fawcett book? Never heard of it, but the title is truly intriguing.

Love the new pic of you!
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you! I hope it's a great one this year, for you and your family. And I hope your health behaves for you. ~hugs and thoughts~

K
Hey -- found you while checking out your 999 group. I'm a re-reader too, even before it became more of a geographically-based necessity. Have a great day.
Snow? You're getting snow? I can't imagine. I mean, I need at least another six weeks before I would be ready for that.
Just wanted to stop by and give you some *hugs and comfort* for all the horrible health stuff you're going through.

Thinking of you

K
Hi! You dropped by my library last month to say hello, and this is the first time I've been here since then. Shame shame on me!

BUT I'm glad you stopped by, and here I am saying 'hi' right back!

Happy reading,
~~~Cyn a/k/a TheScrappyCat
Carpe Demon -- no, I haven't. I will check it out, thanks for the tip!
Thanks for letting me know about the Per Petterson book, To Siberia, that was really kind of you. As it happens though, I just bought it and am reading it now. It's very good.
How have you been? And is that a new picture at the top of the page? I like your hat.
Not a dormouse, but a baby hamster!
thank you for the kind words, it really means a lot to me, and certainly inspires me to continue - in fact, I am heading out to take some more shots in about 1/2 an hours time :-)
Thanks so much for the hug! You're right -- I needed one! And it's funny, but stuff like that really does help. I heard from the newspaper columnist, and he is going to use my name and letter in his column. I'm fine with that -- because otherwise I wouldn't have written to him in the first place. I really feel strongly that this incredibly dishonest woman, who seems to have been living a double life for years, not ever be allowed onto my school's campus again. I certainly don't want her subbing in my classroom! Thanks again for the hug!
Hey! Noticed you've been on a cookbook spree. Have you checked out ISBN:1593373236? It's got GREAT reviews on Amazon. Have a great day!
BTW, I forgot to add that I grew up in WNY, the beginning place of the LDS. I have even been to the Hill Cumorah pageant a few times. I'll never be a Mormon, but the whole history and theology of the LDS fascinates me. I've done a great deal of reading on the subject, and one of my favorite authors, Orson Scott Card, is a LDS. I find that LDS beliefs permeate a great deal of his work. Did you ever see the PBS special on the Mormons? I'd love to know what you thought of it.
My kitty, Alex, sends his best regards to Spooky. Hope he's improving.
Thank you for dropping by :) It's still rather new, so it's always nice to get good feedback!
good for you, jumping into home schooling. let me know if you need any tips or recommendations. i love to talk "shop".
thanks for the comments, stop by any time... the photo is son #3, who cannot do anything but mug and goof in front of a camera...
Hi back! I'm loving reading everyone's blogs, they are all different but great. I'm getting so many ideas for new books to read that my TBR, which was already too long, is now much to long to manage!
its a great fantasy come true to be trapped on the beach with nothing more pressing to do then to read my books. I highly recommend it!
Thank you very much, that means a lot to me.
Now get your tags ;-)
Hey - I'm a busy mom too although I've only got one child, not 3. But it IS homework season! Today is a Mythological Dictionary of at least 20 terms for 9th grade Honors English.
I like your idea of 1 audiobook per category - I may or may not use it, but that's the beauty of the 888. Personal choice.
What I really wanted to write to you about was that in looking at your profile I saw your reference to BookCrossing. I hadn't heard of it so checked it out and am very intrigued. There are 19 books in my town and several towns nearby are also listed. Thanks.
Good luck with the 888 challenge.
xoxo
I think that Jim Butcher's books are definately worth looking into. He has two different series. There is The Dresden Files which is an urban fantasy set in an alternate Chicago where magic exists and the main character is a wizard names Harry Dresden. The other is the series that's listed on my 888 Challenge page - The Codex Alera. That's a more traditional fantasy. Both are excellent, and yet very different from each other. Its refreshing to see an author be able to change his writing style so much between two different series.
If you like fantasy they are worth checking out.
I saw your question about the 888 tickers. I got mine at the Ticker Factory. Here is the construction page. Come back and post to let us know how you are progressing!
Hi, I'm happy to accept your invitation to be an LT friend! Still learning my way around but so far I like it a lot! Hope to chat with you soon!
~~~Cyn (TheScrappyCat)
Hello to a fellow BookCrosser. I'm happy to befriend you!
Hi!
Thanks for sharing the link to this site. I just joined and look forward to checking it out :)
Wow - someone else who read Richard Barth's Margaret Binton series!
Welcome to LT from a fellow BCer and Campion fan.
