Curtis J. Crawford, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer
XCEO, Inc.
Dr. Crawford is Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of XCEO, Inc. Prior to founding XCEO, Inc., he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Onix Microsystems; a private photonics technology company that designed, manufactured and sold MEMS based optical switching engines. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of ON Semiconductor Corporation (ONNN, NASDAQ) from September 1999 until April 1, 2002. He also served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Zilog Incorporated (ZLOG, NASDAQ) from March of 1998 until March 2001. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Zilog Incorporated from May of 1999 until March 2001. Schooled in the computer and semiconductor industries, he is a forceful advocate of a customer-driven, systems-level approach to the electronics business.
Dr. Crawford played a key role in leading On Semiconductor Corporation to a successful initial public Offering (IPO) after separating this $2 billion division from Motorola Corporation in 1999.
Dr. Crawford initiated sweeping change on his arrival at Zilog, resurrecting the promise industry trailblazers Federico Faggin and Ralph Ungerman inspired when they created a successful, creative, young Zilog in 1974. He focused on ZiLOG's design and manufacturing expertise and spearheaded ZiLOG's vision of Extreme Connectivity. Dr. Crawford led the company to sequential EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest and Taxes, Depreciation & Amortization) and revenue growth, and its first operating profit in two years.
From 1997 to 1998, Dr. Crawford was Group President of the Microelectronics Group and President of the Intellectual Property division of Lucent Technologies (Agere Systems, AGRA, NYSE). From 1995 to 1997, he was the President of the Microelectronics Group. Under his leadership, the business designed, manufactured, and sold semiconductors, electronic components and power systems/supplies worldwide for applications in telecommunications, networked computing, multimedia, wireless and consumer electronics.
From 1993 to 1995, prior to the formation of Lucent Technologies, Dr. Crawford was President of AT&T Microelectronics, a business unit of AT&T Corporation. From 1991 to 1993, he held the position of Vice President and Co-Chief Executive Officer of AT&T Microelectronics. Before joining the Microelectronics division, Dr. Crawford was Vice President of Sales, Service and Support for AT&T Computer Systems from 1988 to 1991.
Fifteen years at International Business Machines (IBM) preceded Dr. Crawford's tenure with AT&T. He began his career at IBM in 1973 as a systems engineer and through the years held a variety of sales, marketing and executive management positions at various divisions of IBM. In his last IBM position, Vice President of Marketing, Dr. Crawford pioneered new distribution channels for IBM's PC's. His efforts helped their National Distribution Division produce annual revenues in excess of $4.5 billion.
A graduate of Governors State University in University Park, Illinois, Dr. Crawford received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Computer Sciences and a Master of Arts degree in Marketing. He received a Master of Business Administration degree from the Charles H. Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University. Dr. Crawford earned his Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Organization and Management from the Graduate School of Capella University. In addition, Dr. Crawford has been awarded two Honorary Doctorate degrees. One was received from Governors State University in June of 1996 and one was received from the School of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Information Services (CTI) at DePaul University in June of 1999.
Dr. Crawford serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of DePaul University and as a member of the Board of Directors of Agilysys Corp, ITT Industries, Inc., ON Semiconductors and E.I. duPont de Nemours and Company.
