I was fine-tuning my library a bit, and noticed that you were one of the few who also owned Frances Carpenter's book, The Elephant's Bathtub. I taught middle schoolers for thirty-two years and I can't count the times I read "The Would-Be Wizard", "The Unlucky Shoes of Ali Abou" and "One Mean Trick Deserves Another" (three that were especially popular with the children). Perhaps my favorite part of teaching was having the opportunity to tell stories to children.
Before my first year as a teacher, my parents gave me a wonderful gift: the chance to buy books for my classroom. I bought several story anthologies, Carpenter's among them. The book is pretty tattered now, and several pages fall out every time I pick it up, but I still enjoy looking back at those tales. I'm enjoying retirement, but the thing I miss most is having a captive audience.
Good luck to you with your storytelling -- I know it's a joy to be able to share your gift with so many.
