Thanks for the invitation to become friends. I'm delighted!

As of today, we share 94 books. I was reading your list, and thought, Oh, he/she has read some GREAT books. Yesterday I finished 102 Minutes: The Untold Story of the Fight to Survive Inside the Twin Towers and noticed this was on your list, too. What a book!

If you'd like to see what I have been reading, you could do a tag search on "read in 2009." The books without stars are books I have not yet finished. Everything else I have rated. I've read so many amazing books this year.

I checked out your 5-star books for just a couple minutes, and I'd love to read some of the books you've read. I'll have to see what our local libraries have.

Interesting that you're from Iowa. I lived in Des Moines and Muscatine in my childhood (until third grade) and have many relatives still living in Baxter, Iowa. So I have a soft heart for Iowa. :)

Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks for the friend invite, you can never have too many avidreader friends.
Dara....Thanks for the recommendation of Mary. I have seen this book, but thanks for the heads up.
I will definitely look into getting it. Wisteria
Thank you for joining my new thread
Thought you might be intersted in joining my new thread. Check it out.

No problem I'm glad to accept any friend request through librarything. I like your picture the bugs reading are really cute! I have a strong interest in true crime although I read lots of other books too. I am thinking of getting a degree in criminology but I'm not sure yet. I have a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design, and I have a masters in library science. I could try for another bachelors or a masters degree in criminology and then perhaps work for a crime library somewhere instead of public. I'm finally living on my own and away from my parents so I've got to support myself and pay rent, so I don't know if I will be able to go for an extra degree just yet. So enough babbling about me, tell me a little about yourself.
Hi, Dara!

Thank you for the reccomendations! I read The Book Thief last year and loved it! Stones From the River sounds interesting, I'll check it out. Is it anything like The Book Thief? 'Cause then I'm going to love it. :)

My book lists tend to be not only a list of books I have read but books I want to read. In the Lake of the Woods is in the TBR pile. I've read the entire Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series (and have seen both movies.. book 1 is movie one, book 2-5 is movie two) and Testimony. One of my co-workers frequently recommends Anita Shreve to patrons, but I hadn't read any books by her.

I'm curious about your book club with the Talking Book Program patrons. Is it teleconference? How many patrons participate? How do you go about building excitement for participation? Any other details that you think might be helpful if I were to do something similar here? I think that is a great idea and would love to hear more about it.
Take care.

Shannon
P.S. I work for the Talking Book Program in Texas.
I've read two out of the four books on your list of best of quarter. I'm curious as to which ones stand a chance at being on the list at the end of the year. I agree it has been a slow quarter of reading for me.
Hopefully some great reading ahead.

Shannon
Great. Send me your e-mail address (mine is mail@christophertusa.com) and I'll e-mail you the e-book.

Thanks again,

Chris
Hi,

Was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Saw you liked Paris Trout, and I thought you might like my novel since it's also southern and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Hey, saw that you read John Hart's book! Awesome author right? His next book is coming out in May, its called The Last Child! I am pretty excited about it.
Hi dara85, we did escape the floods of CR. we live far enough away that we weren't affected. Thank goodness. It is still pretty devastating to see the city. How funny that you have a niece named Marisa. growing up there was no one ever with my name. no one ever knew how to spell it. as I get older there are more and more of us around.
I'm finding this site pretty addictive. I was introduced to it by a facebook friend and I can't seem to get enough. I see we share a few books. I'm currently really into Coben and Picoult. Have a great evening and a happy new year.
Hi there,
I stumbled across your profile when I was looking at readers with some of the same favorites as myself. Harlan Coben and Jodi Picoult, are two of my current favorites. I just joined today so I'm not too familiar with this site yet but it looks like fun. I also see that you are in Iowa. So am I. I'm in Cedar Rapids, where are you?
I look forward to hearing from you and finding my way around this librarything.
Thanks so much for the tip- I never even thought to look and see if she had more! I can't wait to get my hands on it.
Happy reading!
Hello,
I believe you entered information about an author I was curious about (Jeannette Eyerly), that she was awarded the Christopher Medal in 1969...but you didn't say which book got that award. One of my 11yo's favorite books, Gretchen's Hill, is by her. I'm curious if it's the book which got the award.

I like your illustration - of two bugs on a leaf, reading - in lieu of a personal photo, by the way!
Thanks,
Never mind... thanks for the quick reply!

You might like to play along. Would love for you to join us.

Hi Dara, thanks for the message. My husband is a big Patterson fan, I won't give up on him yet. I appreciate you letting me know that When the Wind Blows was not his best work. I will try the other ones soon! Thanks!
I was just introduced to Erica Spindler by a good friend of mine. I never heard of her before. Every book I have read of hers I have given a high rating. I love her. Would like to get a hold of some more of hers.

I have read Lisa Jackson. Isn't it in my Library? hmmm
I do enjoy her very much too. My friend probably has cold blooded. I will have to ask her for it.

I will probably end up seeing other books that I have read in your library. If I don't there are probably some in there that I would like to read. Will have to check that out some time soon.
Thanks for the invite. Hope to get more familier with your library. I must put you on my friends list also.
Thanks for the Friends Invite which the by the way I accepted :-)

I love adventure books ~ thanks for the recommendation.

Marcia
Hi there! Thanks for accepting my friend request ~ I saw that we have alot of books in common. I'm reading an ARC right now, "The Richest Season", it's pretty good. Reminds me of Anne Rivers Siddons or Anita Shreve, as it's set on Pawley's Island, on the beach.

Have a great weekend!

~ Julie
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving suggestions on my LT profile. I have never read Grisham's books before so I will have to check out the book you suggested. Happy Reading!
I would mark you as an interesting library, but I don't know how. Reading Lolita in tehran is v. interesting--it has made me forget about other books I was reading. I actuallly wish I had bought it instead of just checked it out from the library b/c there are lots of things I want to underline. I still need to get on the web site from Irene Hunt. I want to tell her how fabulous she is!
How huge is your TBR file? Mine is 985 lines (each line being a book I crave to read) on an Excel spreadsheet. And it keeps growing. T'is a mystery to me how . . . .
I am still learning how to do this stuff but I think librarything is great and I'm glad to have your comments. I have decided to make my library not books I own, but books I have read, b/c that's what I'm interested in keeping track of. Plus, I think what I have read defines me more than what I own. Have you read Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali? I had read it just before I read A thousand splendid suns and I thought it was excellent. It's about a woman who was Muslim and finally fled to the Netherlands, but she traces her life from childhood and her indoctrination and liberation from Muslim ideals.
Yes, I had a lovely childhood too, and actually I think I will avoid books about child abuse, somehow that's just too disturbing--I turn the channel when I hear that stuff on the news, but thanks for the recommendation on that other one--I will have to check into it. Also I had no idea about the web site so I am going to look into that too. Funnily enough we just read A Thousand Splendid Suns in my book club a couple of months ago and I enjoyed that too. We're now reading Reading Lolita in Tehran and I've been thinking about how an oppressive political regime is very similar to an oppressive marriage. I guess that would be obvious but it hasn't been to me until I've started reading more about spouse abuse and about these political/religious systems. If you liked Irene Spencer's book, you might like Escape by Carolyn Jessop. It's also about polygamy, however it's not as well-written. I read The Sea, the Sea by Iris Murdoch and found that deals with an abusive marriage (maybe) and the narrator tries to save the woman from it, but ends up being just as tyrannical as her husband...anyway.
I just posted a comment seeing you have read Shattered Dreams, but then I saw that you have also read Black and Blue. Those are the only two books we share, but both are about women who deal with abuse, either on a personal level or institutionalized. What would you say has drawn you to reading books like these and do you know of any other good ones? A dear friend of mine is in an abusive relationship and my way of dealing with it is reading about it.
