Sobre mimRight now my picture is the "War Ration" mark from a copy of "Candy Cane" that I recently came across at a hotel. It seemed bookish.

You know what is hilarious? The rating system. I can see how it's helpful, but sometimes it strikes me how funny it is. I mean, I have given five stars to both "Relentless: The Hard Hitting History of the Buffalo Bills" and "The Iliad." That's a little insane -- if anything, I should be so lucky if The Iliad would rate ME as a reader.

Sobre a minha bibliotecaMy plan is to add slowly but steadily. First I am tackling the books that I've moved to our summer cottage for storage, hopefully to reduce the number of times I'm perplexed by where a particular book is kept.

Hi. I saw your review of Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson. I was wondering if you had also read his novel Anathem? Thanks.
Noticed you liked Out by Natsuo Kirino, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here, as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also gritty, a bit violent, and a bit dark :) I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Here's a link to a summary (and a sample chapter) in case you'd like to read more about the novel before you commit.

Thanks,

I just wanted to say that I LOVED your review of The Ghost With Trembling Wings. I understand exactly how you feel - I myself would happily keep a Great Auk in my bathtub and buy ice for it every day.
Drat! I'm really enjoying your reviews, but I'm going to have to ration myself. I keep adding to my TBR list. Thanks for sharing!
I just read your comment on "The Last Kashmiri Rose" about the author's name. I'm glad I'm not the only one who keeps thinking it is Beverly Cleverly instead of Barbara. You also come up with a lot of hits of Google for Barbara Cleverly's books when you search for "Beverly Cleverly." I guess we aren't the only ones either. Maybe she needs to change her name since we all think that's her name anyway!
Welcome to Books Compared. What nice reviews you write! Hope you'll share a comparison review with us sometime soon.

You're totally right about the rating system, though the recommendations and anti-recommendations features are brilliant. I don't rate any books except sometimes if they're on my most-adored-books list and I happen to think of it while entering them. Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All is one of them, though I don't remember if I rated it, and The King Must Die is another, though I haven't reread it in many years.
Thank you for your kind words. I quite enjoyed The Orientalist, as I see, from your review, that you did as well. He lived a remarkable life.
Excellent points in your review of "Straight Man". kevmalone
