Sobre mimAh, would you just look at all of this space allotted to me to fill with all the self-aggrandizing fodder I can muster. Well, let me see ... It all started on a cold April morning in 1978. I was ripped from my warm, happy home and forced to live here, in this cruel world. Since that incident, on that most revolting of days, I have acquiesced that this is the reality of things, and eventually I found a way to deal with the idea—mostly.

I am one of those contemplative, philosophical types who spends much of his time trying to answer the big questions like, “Why am I here?” and “What’s the meaning of life?” I figure that I will eventually come very close to answering those big questions, and just then, old age and senility will set in and I will forget what I was doing altogether.

I enjoy reading (obviously, eh?) writing, learning new things, camping, hiking, snowshoeing, and mountain biking. I am also a big fan of rugby and football (or soccer, if you will), though I have a difficult time deciding which I like better. There was a time when hockey would have topped that list; however, it dropped a couple of spots after the ridiculous new rules went into effect. However, it has since begun its climb back onto the list.

I also love to travel. I have been to almost half of the states in the US, and I have seen a fair portion of the world, though I want to see much more before my time here is up. My favorite places (so far) are Colorado, New Mexico, New England, New York (city that is), Boston, Chicago, Newport Beach, Dublin and Ireland in general, London, North and Mid-Wales, Sydney and the southern coast of Australia.

Sobre a minha bibliotecaI'm a bookseller, and as such, books have slowly taken over my home (a "problem" I'm sure many have experienced) so I've started selling off some of my library to make room for newer things that I'll actually read.

I mostly read general/literary fiction, as well as non-fiction in the areas of philosophy, comparative religion, history, sociology, and personal essays. I also enjoy graphic novels, though for a long time I viewed them as a guilty pleasure (I admit, I used to be a bit of a literary snob). Oh, and just for the record, I am one of the few males on this planet who will admit to liking Jane Austen.

I have read most of the books in my library (though you may notice that 'tbr' is one of my most common tags--that pile keeps growing!). I am usually reading several books at once, though rarely do I read more than one novel at a time, unless they are very different stories. My penchant for multi-book reading makes going out of the house stressful. I always bring a book with me everywhere I go (even for the shortest of trips), but I can never decide what kind of book to bring. When I’m leaving, I might be in the mood for a novel, but later in the day, I may be more in the mood for essays, or perhaps philosophy. So, I usually end up toting multiple books around with me. It is a sickness, and once I find a reputable twelve-step program for it, perhaps I will seek help.

Agreed. And, holy shit! Did you get a cat?
Your gonna have to move to Ireland for that. I don't think it even makes it to British TV.
And you call yourself a rugby fan. Sheesh! Where's the dedication???
No, I'm just kidding - I wouldn't get up that early to watch a football match (unless maybe it was a REALLY important one). But hopefully now between Fox Soccer and ESPN I'll get to see a few more live matches and not have to endure the special form of torture that is known as "live text".
And as for a blackberry app keep dreamin'. Tim has said Apps not a priority. I on the other hand can surf LT on my iPhone :-)
#47 on my list of recommendations (now that I've filtered out all the kids books) :
The Essential Shankly: revealing the Kop legend who launched a thousand quips by John Keith

For a moment I thought the almighty algorithm really was omnipotent because I don't think there's a single Football Book in my library nevermind any about LFC. But then I clciked on "Why" and my faith in the algorithm was slightly demolished.

No thanks! | Why? (close why) Recommendation based on:
Twopence to Cross the Mersey by Helen Forrester
By the Waters of Liverpool by Helen Forrester
Lime Street at Two by Helen Forrester

They have absolutely nothing to do with football. They're 3 autobiographical volumes of the author's childhood/early aldulthood in Liverpool during the Depression and WWii. So What the French Toast??
Clearly you haven't discovered Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook.
COLLECTIONS ARE HERE!!!!!!
He's scored some fantastic ones this season. His 100th goal for Liverpool was a pretty one. But forget technically great goals, the best goal he scored this season was the one he scored when we beat Man U 1-4 at Old Trafford.
*waves right back at 'cha*

Forget the waves!

Happy Birthday!
Oh gosh, haven't seen that. Not been on here much lately, things have been a little hectic. *Wanders off to see What the time is.
Nice profile pic! :)
Hey!! How are you? It has been a very long time.
And someone to clone me.
In desperate need of an alcoholic beverage!! How are you?
I like Nick Hornby's writing style and he's pretty funny normally but I wasn't expecting a book about suicide to be that funny. I was reading it yesterday and I was laughing so much my son wanted to know what the book was about, when I said suicide he looked at me like I'd really lost it.
I just finished "A long way down". Brilliant.
OOOOOh Get you with your 4 helper badgers! What are those all about anyway?
With steak and kidney pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy of course.
I'm in NC @my husband's - 5 of us in a 1 bed apt which is just as much fun as you can imagine and then some!
There was no way I was cooking in his tiny kitchen so we've just been to Cracker Barrel.
Happy something made with soy day.
Yep. I'm taxed without representation -- there's irony for you.
Can't wait for this election to be over. I'm surrounded by people who are uninformed, uninvolved or just plain stupid but they get to vote and I don't!
*waves back*
Yeah, I saw that one...

BTW: Been super-busy these last days; I have a backlog from hell and run in and out of meetings never getting one thing done.
Sigh.
Then when I have some slack I never even manage to check LT. Well, did today but it have been some time.
