Sobre mimI'm a student in Australia who has worked in a small, independent bookshop for the last 5 years. I love everything about books and reading, and will read just about anything I'm given.

I've lived in both England and Japan for one year each which would explain the high English and Japanese content of my library. I loved living in Japan and learning more about the language and culture, but I would have chopped my own arm off to have access to more books in English! I'll never take bookshops and libraries for granted again!

I will only lend my books to people on the understanding that no page corners will be turned down and that they won't be left lying open face down. Pedantic I know, but my books are sacred!

I am currently reading:

Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie. This is my first Rushdie, but it keeps winning everything related to the Booker, so I felt I should start with this one (plus, I borrowed it from a friend over a year ago and I should really return it!)

Twelve Caesars by Suetonius.

The History Of Tom Jones, A Foundling by Henry Fielding which seems to go on forever. I'm enjoying it, but it's being read in small doses, mainly in between other books.

I have recently read:

Ex Libris by Anne Fadiman
Socialism Is Great: A Worker's Memoir of the New China by Lijia Zhang
The Gathering by Anne Enright
Silk by Alessandro Baricco
The End Of The Affair by Graham Greene
The Cleft by Doris Lessing
The Rape Of Nanking by Iris Chang
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett
Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote
The Getting of Wisdom by Henry Handel Richardson
On The Edge: My Story by Richard Hammond (the guy from Top Gear)
Almost French by Sarah Turnbull
Oscar & Lucinda by Peter Carey
The Winds of Tara by Katherine Pinotti
England, England by Julian Barnes
Blind Faith by Ben Elton
Kingdom Come by J G Ballard
If On A Winter's Night A Traveller by Italo Calvino
The Drowning World by J G Ballard
The Mad Ship by Robin Hobb
Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb
Empire of the Sun by J G Ballard
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert

Sobre a minha bibliotecaI have decided to only put up those books which I currently own. I'm using this as a way for me to keep track of my personal library so just having read it isn't good enough.

I am attempting to read as many as possible of the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die, as well as to read at least 2 books from each year's Booker Prize Shortlist including the winner, which is why I have so many of these books!

Noticed you liked The Virgin Suicides, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Sure, it's called The Green Dragon at Library Thing Forum, and is at this link: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=12...
Dream

I see from the 1001 thread that you've just read the Buddha of Suburbia - Hanif Kureishi has just brought out another book - Something to Tell You. I haven't read it yet myself, and only bought it the other day, but I too loved The Buddha.

Hi There,

I found your library from the Canberra lifeline bookfair entries and I'm reading along similar lines, in regard to the 1001 list (I think your ahead of me :-) and the booker prize short-list. I'm involved in bookrings on bookcrossing and that is how I've decide to track my reading.
Also saves on buying all the 1001 listed books. If your interested you can check-out my bookcrossing bookshelf, my user name is FreePages there.

Merry Christmas, Dream. Hope it's a good one for you and your family. :)

Winds of Tara arrived today :) Thanks again for sending it to me, I feel so excited to finally be able to read it!
This is a very cruel response from you. I don't think you really aspire to have "certain individuals" on your sites too much and I wish someone would flag you. Your responses are all over done and geekish; how dare you take the liberty to assign a flag without first learning about one's intentions; for if you read the ad correctly, I wrote the ad with a level of ambiguity, and apologizing for not really knowing what to say and you were audacious enough to flag me nevertheless. This is a recurrent problem on such sites. They want your money and then they don't want you to benefit from the financial requirement; which to me is very one-sided. Your response is more offensive than the first statement. And, if your intentions were to run me away from this site you have succeeded and I will be reporting such actions. I will never post on this site again. Your Polly Anna-Like readers leaves me feeling that I have signed on to a cold cult and that is not the type of writing community I want to subscribe to.
I did not try to offend the group. I was not promoting my book and your message was disturbing and a little disconcerting as I am new to all this posting and you appear to be very experienced at this. Your comments make it near impossible for me to post again; because my intention was not flag warranted.
I'm glad the book made it safely :) Whenever Winds of Tara gets here I'll be happy as a clam, but I have plenty to read while waiting so no worries!
Thank you for joining Pro and Con (Religion). I hope this is a place where the comfortable are afflicted and the afflicted are comforted. Let’s go it with all seriousness, but I hope we can have great fun at the same time. If I were God, I would part the waters of distance, and instantly transport us all to this great pub I used to frequent in Germany with a group of other Auslanders, but alas, I am but a lowly mortal, and so we have to do this via the internet.

All I ask is that every one remain respectful, even if there are times when you are spewing your coffee over the screen.

You are fantastic! I would be honored if you read Rovella Starr! www.acceptedltr.com
