Sobre mimYes, that's me in the photo - I'm bronzed...
and so is my cat.

Sobre a minha bibliotecaThese are books I've read, not always books I OWN.
I read "adult" books in the summer and YA books in the school year so that I can recommend/pass books on to "my" kids. (not a teacher, I volunteer work with advanced readers in 6th grade.) It's my 4th year doing this, so all former kids are still "my" kids!

Currently/Recently Read
I am trying to read 200 books before the end of the year, so I'm mostly trying to race through 200 page books and adding all the books I read but forgot to add.

Fire (companion book to Graceling)done Fantastic, I liked this better than Graceling. (need to write review!)
Into the Wild (skimming)I intended to just skim this before giving it to one of my kids, but I got interested and read the whole thing. Now I guess I'll have to watch the movie.
Me, My Elf and I done Cute, and funny. Elves seem to be more new agey hippies than mythical creatures. Nothing fantastic about this book, but a solid read.
The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks done Now this WAS fantastic, loved her voice, loved the typical teenage story that managed to be a little deeper than it seemed on the surface. Read right through it in about 24 hours. Recommend!
Tears of a Tiger (for school)done A good kids-read-out-loud book.
Goddess Boot Camp (sequel to Oh. My. Gods.)done Enjoyed this, not quite as good as Oh My Gods.
Kiss of Life - Generation Dead done Also, not quite as good as the first one.
Madapple done Wow, very strange, very beautifully written. I liked it, but it's really not for everyone.
Teen Angst? Naaah . . . A Quasi-autobiography done Quick and lol funny in parts.
Story of a Girl done Good, very true to life and fairly graphic.
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian done Wow, this was sooo good. Graphic but totally real with some deeper issues.
The Fifth Child done Well written and strange. I liked it!
Lush -Natasha Friend done Very dramatic, but good. Story about an alcoholic dad.
Once was Lost - Sara Zarr done Alcoholic Mom. Not as good as her previous books, more a mystery than a relationship book.
Playing in Traffic - Giles done Ok, there were some pretty good parts.
Zombie Blondes - Brian James done A little predictable, but it did have some genuine creepy moments.
Invisible- Pete Hautman done Good, with some twists and turns - but I saw them coming.
Red Spikes - short stories done Didn't really like this one. I like strange, but this was too strange. I spent most of the time reading it, trying to figure out what was going on. Too brief glances at alternative universe.
Three Holiday Stories done Loved this!! The middle one, by John Green is really really funny!
Kin - the good neighbors by Holly Black done Graphic Novel, not sure I like graphic novels, but it was worth reading.
So B. It done Enjoyed it. Easy Read.
Mango Shaped Space done Enjoyed this. Ooooh, the colors!
Geektastic - short stories done Some of these stories were very good, some were just meh. Worth reading for the very good ones!
Touch - Prose - done not appropriate for 7/8th graders, more of a HS book.Good, though.
Schooled - Korman done This was a funny fish-out-of-water tale. Talked with my kids about other foow examples, tv/movies.
Spellbinder (ARC)for review done A good YA fantasy, but nothing really special about it. Seemed a little TOO English for an American audience. Need to write full review.
The Poison Eaters - Holly Black for LTER.done Loved it - very dark short stories. Only one story I wasn't crazy about. Need to write review.

Most Currently Reading:
Dreamdark - Silksinger
Blood sucking fiends - Moore
The Forest Wife

I wanted to read Liar next, but my daughter has walked off with it. (sigh)

The pile on my table is getting very tall - and it's all just ONE pile, it's a blue eyed miracle that it hasn't fallen on me and killed me yet.
Fallen (ARC)

Banner in the Sky
Whistling in the Dark
The Sky Inside - Dunkle
A Spot of Bother

Frozen Fire - Bowler
Seaborn - Moodies

Bad Moon Rising - Jonathan Maberry
The Girl who Swallowed the Moon - Gideon
Zenith - Julie Bertagna
40 Words for Sorrow - Giles Blunt (recommended by Ben)
The Black Tattoo - Sam Enthoven

Recently Abandoned Books:
Touch the Dark - Karen Chance (not sure about this one, she seems to stop in the middle of the action to give you 2 pages of backstory. I'm hoping she'll stop doing that as the story moves on.) I've put this down, will pick it up again at some point.

To Be Read Pile:
My TBR piles were where the Christmas Tree needed to go, so I've sadly packed them away. (I dunno why, I LIKE looking at them!) I've decided to add them to my LT library under the tag TBR, just to keep track of them.

I'm glad you liked "Son of a Witch". It had mixed reviews, but I liked it. I still haven't read "Lion Among Men" yet.

Are the colors wonderful there? The leaves are changing in the mountains, but they've just started here. At least the mosquitoes will soon be gone!
Just popping by to say hi!
more niftier? Apparently I've been spending too much time with children today:)
Hi there,
Not much - I'm 43.

Let's plan on exchanging. I'll send you one from Kingston and you can send me one from Maine. I've never had any cards sent from Maine, nor have I been there, so any of your choices would be nice. Even if we've got the same stuff, I bet your stuff is more niftier - just a feeling I've got!

PM me your address.

ttys,
Michelle
Hi there, I was wondering if you'd be willing to send "The Thief and the Beanstalk" to NZ? If not, I wouldn't mind finding an angel. Thanks! :)
Awesome! Thanks so much!
Gee Brenda, how come you haven't had a chance to list your books on BookMooch yet? (grin).

M.
If: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan and The 911 Report are still available I'd love to take them!
Thanks!
Yeah, they're really good! But I find that they're not as good the second time around, and for me that is what separates the "keep" from the "swap" XD
I'd send 'em all if I could but sadly that means they'd have to go expedited which costs $20 and I refuse to give in to our stupid PO's prices.

I can probably squeeze one more into a bubblemailer before it goes over the threshold, so I will reserve #4 for you as well. :)
Hi again
I hadn't seen your comment to me here before I mentioned the airmail bit before. It's not a very big book, and may just sneak through at what we call "large letter rate" which is cheaper for airmail that the parcel equivalent is for surface. But even if it doesn't, at that weight the difference between airmail and surface is only a couple of $$. So I reckon you deserve to get it much quicker than 3 months. *lol*
Best
Helen
Hi ealaindraoi
I've just received "Obernewtyn" and listed it on BookMooch - it's reserved for you. So go ahead and grab it.

Cheers
Helen
Hi! I just received the September issue of Glamour and I'll list it for you if you would like to have it. Let me know! mariahj
Thank you very much!

I'll be delighted to send a postcard to your daughter.
Thanks a lot for the Angel Mooch. I've just checked the book you needed from Sapin and the owner has quite a queue of 'to send' books, so I guess we'll have to wait a bit. I'll keep in touch.
Enjoy!
Angela
Thanks a lot for your help, I've written to her and I hope she will be accepting, I got no answer for the 'ask first' and then I forgot about the reservation :)
I' ve just requested the one you want from Spain and I'll let you now as soon as I get any feedback.
Cheers.
Angela
Thanks for the sympathy and corresponding kind offer. I was just venting a bit -- if I mention this to my SO, he looks at me with genuine bewilderment and wonders why the crammed shelves in the living room and the stack by the bed aren't enough for me.

In any case, summer vacation is here and since the library system here is offering loads of activities for children, I am spending a lot of time hanging about in the various branches. I was at the main library today and picked up a copy of Millicent Min (the main library is too large to allow me to wander through the Adult areas while the kids are in the Children's section). I just finished my early reviewer book and needed something light and entertaining to take the taste out of my mouth.

I'm glad you liked the 19th Wife. Have you visited the author chat? He's there until the 12th.
Hi ealaindroi, nice to hear from you! Thanks for the comment on my review. I had to laugh though — it's Enna Burning, not Enya Burning! :-P Freudian slip? Heehee. And actually I have that one coming to me via BookMooch (well, hopefully coming... it's been a couple weeks since it was accepted!). I've never read Firestarter. Would you say it's at least worthy of being plagiarized? ;)

I read the Tough Guide to Fantasyland maybe a year ago and I agree, it's definitely a "here and there" type-read. Too much snark gets abrasive after awhile! But in smallish doses, it's good leavening :-)
Thanks for the birthday wishes! I feel so special that you wrote it down in your planner. And yes, it was a good day. I'm in China working and visiting family, and it was rather amusing (in that sort of exasperated affectionate way) to see them try to give me a "western" birthday celebration. For example, in Chinese meals there is no dessert, so we ate the cake as part of our dinner with the other dishes and not after. It felt very strange taking a bite of rice, and then taking a bite of cake, but I enjoyed it.
BM? I have a 2 years old in day care...yeah...we won't go there!
Thank you for the Mother's Day gift. I hope the warm spring weather has reached you by now and you'll get to spend some time this weekend happily reading in your garden.
I added nonreserved stuff. :P
http://www.bookmooch.com/detail/07525552... is rather good.
Sorry. I've been mooching a lot of Angel books lately... A finnish moocher (vivir) likes chocolate books.
Feel free to stalk my Bookmooch inventory. I'm not adding a ton right now, but we usually find something or other of interest. :)
Remember when I bragged to you about my enormous points count? And you assured me that I would now always have plenty of points? So, then I happily expanded my wishlist and spent all of my points. I am, clearly, much greedier than you are. I would count the books in Mount Toobie, but I don't want to. What I want to do is read those books!

So, thank you for your generous offer, but it may just be time for me to live within my means. I asked my brother-in-law to bring me a few books and audio books for the kids when he flew over from Germany and he brought a suitcase full--including several audio CDs for me in German. They are not exactly what I would have chosen for myself (Stephanie Meyers in German anyone?) but the kids are well supplied and next time he visits I will get him to bring a stack of Cornelia Funke.

Daffodils are the surest sign of Spring I know. Here they bloom after the tulips, strangely enough, but I am ordering more bulbs so that the flowerbeds can be full of color at the earliest opportunity. I have even found a kind of lilac that is supposed to bloom this far south.

Soccer season has begun here! I hope you are enjoying your chauffeuring duties as much as I am!
I listed and reserved them for you and sent you reservation emails. Yep, I was thinking of black marker censorship too! I'm sure most of it would be fine and interesting for them to look at.
Have you packed the Christmas tree away yet so that your TBR piles can return to their rightful place? Is the snow melting up there? We vacillate from rain, rain and more rain to wonderful sunny days.

Did you ever read Outlander?
Congrats to Jody thread here - http://www.librarything.com/talktopic.ph.... Hope you'll join in.
Yay! Books! hehe I don't care about the box-thing, I always end up not using those things anyways. My BM id is same as here, Heather19 (also linked in my profile Also Ons). Thanks!
did you get the books back this weekend?
i wasnt home like all weekend.
:)
yea i think so.
and ill tell her.
You should be proud
becasuse I really read those
haha
Fruit? At School?
balderdash!!!

Anyway, I know you love that hat.
I love that hat.
But I am not a hat person.
I wore a rose in my hair today.
And about the phone call...
I thought that I should call becuase I just remembered when I got on the bus.
That woke you up?
sorry :(
hah yes you do and i appreciate it!
hah its expands my horizon..
i think thts the expression im lookin for.
thanks(:
Mother!
Hi how are you are this wonderful day?
I am very sick and not enjoying going to school at all.
I see that you are choosing cold books. Shouldn't you be choosing books set in, say, Florida or Africa? I just finished "The Worst Hard Time" which was, on the whole, warm, but so, so sad that I have been in a winter funk ever since. And there's no reason for that, despite a little frost in the mornings. I tried a few chick-lits and found the inert nature of the protagonists frustrating and the focus on high-end shopping annoying. Also, I think I'm tired of books set in New York. There are other cities, you know.

Child 44 was good, wasn't it? And nicely set up for a series! I've begun "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", which is good but then I read that the author wrote all three and then died before they were published. That's just heartbreaking. Oh dear, I think I may have to go make chocolate chip cookies.
Brenda, I have 25 points (said in a hushed and somewhat awed tone). Books are still arriving much faster than I can read them (and I have even been taking the kids to the library and not getting any for myself!), but I've had a good run of international mooches.

Hope you are not living under a big pile of snow, with moose on top. We have had a "cold snap" with below freezing temperatures well into the morning. The kids have been doing their special snow ritual (pajamas inside out, one sock with a penny in it and a spoon under the pillow at night) to no avail, but we do get frost on the cars in the morning. You now have permission to complain about eighty degree weather come August.
Yay! I'm glad they arrived safe and sound. I didn't do anything special with them requiring a signature so I'm rather surprised it needed one. Thanks for the head's up, and I hope you enjoy reading them!
I'm replying here because I doon't want to put unrelated messages in your topic on the Bookmooch group :)

#3 - That's very kind of you - I did check the books we have in common, and there aren't any of the ones I'm missing covers for. That's quite a library at 1,400 + books! Most impressive.

Thank you :)
I have been getting books every birthday and I've been to lots of flea markets where they sold books. And every time I go on holiday I leave with a suitcase with only clothes and return with lots of books.... I still have one shelf to enter, but those are mostly Dutch books and school books and a few Disney comics. I don't think those covers are useful for you either...
My books are spread over 3 locations though: in my parents' house in a bookcase, storage in my parents' house, and bookcases in my grandfather's house [where I live most of the time]. Later in my house I want a large bookcase where I can put in all my books (^-^).
I have read lots from the library too (entire children's section before it moved to another location, and suddenly they had way more books!) and from my parents' bookcase (I think they even have more books than I do).
The condition sounds perfectly fine and I already own Books I and II, so it's perfect. Ship whenever you want. I'm in no hurry (what with my piles and piles of books to read...)
Well, I'm no longer collecting sci-fi and fantasy magazines, but I would absolutely adore "The Secret Books of Paradys". Thank you!
Thank you so much! It was such a wonderful surprise to receive your package :-)

We didn't hardly want to unwrap the Welsh Tales. The dragon wrapping paper is very nice... maybe I'll make a bookmark with it.

You are a good friend :-D

And, I was caught up in a virtual world called Second Life, but I've gone back to reading now. Hopefully I'll get caught up on my reading and settle back in my LT life again ;-)

15 more books to go before Dec. 31st. Busy, busy, busy!
Oh, thanks, I forgot to check in with the game. I'm back home tomorrow so I will post a quote then, thanks.
OH don't apologize, it sounds like you absolutly love it. Which is great because by the sound of it your doing it all on your own time. I like just about everything when it comes to YA, however, I do admit that I had to put Darkness down, I just couldn't get into it. My fav's though are Bridge to Terabithia (hated the movie) and the Lightening Thief series (that might go along with your sci-fi theme)And believe me I know what it's like having a small school in your community, we get a lot of community help until it comes to pay raises for our school district. :(

Just started Evermore, only about 50 pages in, not too impressed so far. I haven't read Twlight yet, but I think I've gotten enough input I get the basic concept of it. So I'm glad to hear that Evermore isn't exactly (or as your daughter says anything) like Twlight. Maybe I was just too fast to judge, especialy since the back cover says that Meyer fans will like the book. How old is your daughter? I have an 11 y.o. brother that I talk books with all the time.
Hey Brenda! I noticed in the forums that you said you wanted Dresden Files books. I recently started reading the series. I have the first five books. I'm reading the second book right now and I'd be happy to let you mooch books two to five when I'm done with them sometime during this December. I like the series but I don't like it so much that I'd want to hold onto the books forever and ever.

If you're interested, drop me a line.
Dang it! I figured that was going to happen, especially since it's about vampires, oh well.
Yeah, I student teach in the spring and will hopefully get a position in the fall. I want to do grades 4-6 so you work with the same age level I like!! HOw often do you volunteer at your school? Going through all of my education courses we learn that its hard to keep advanced students on track so I'm glad to hear they have a special program for them.
Have you guys read any cool books lately? I love YA fiction!! (kinda dorky I know).
So have you started your Evermore copy? I haven't recived mine yet. This is the first ER I've been selected for that I'm not absolutly mad about reading, I know it's silly since I signed up for it. Just from reading the synopsis I can't get over the idea that's it's a copy of the Twilight series. Are you getting that vibe?
Oh, and the book was "Stay" by Lois Lowry. You've heard of Lois Lowry, haven't you? That well know degenerate? I checked the book out of the library today and plan to read it to both my children. Anyway, the book apparently belonged to the teacher and so she certainly had the right to do with it as she pleased, but I think that throwing it away in front of her class showed bad judgment. It's her first year teaching and we are in the South, home of Bob Jones University, which only now apologised for continuing with racial segregation until 1971.

This is an interesting place for a girl with admittedly left of liberal leanings.
Child 44 is very, very good. Amazing atmosphere and while there is a bit more coincidence than might normally be the case, it is tremendously well written and well plotted and its surprising twists fit in beautifully.

So I guess that I second that recommendation.
"Waking the Moon" was suggested by VictoriaPL, and it's certainly something that I would never have stumbled upon on my own, so I'm excited. It will also be fun to read "Remains of the Day", which I somehow missed at the time (along with "Life of Pi"). I'm really excited about the 999 Challenge, but then I never met a list I didn't love! And yes, that is deeply troubling.

And as for Stephen King...I know that he's moving over into literary fiction, but I find I'm a little less excited about him as time moves on. There was a long stretch in the middle (Hearts in Atlantis, Rose Madder, Bag of Bones) when I would count on loving the book, but that last one was a struggle to finish. I would still totally love to spend an evening talking with him, much more than with most writers, but the gilding is off the rose, at least for me.

NaNo is consuming me, as is normal, I guess. I have read less this month than I did the month I was preparing everything for a trans-Atlantic move.
That's a relief to hear it arrived. I've actually found the sequel to "Sea of Trolls" and am reading it right now in between NaNoWriMo and the avalanche of final assignments before my exams.
I was so thrilled that my first response to that bitchy little "Clint Eastwood as Frodo" comment wasn't a ranting flame from a die-hard fan that I added you as a friend. ;-)
Ahh, a vision of my future! Still, isn't it wonderful to have healthy, active children? Here. in SC, that's hardly a given.

Thank you for the recommendations. I haven't actually read "Remains of the Day" so I'll put that and "Any Given Day" on my list!
I have 10 points! I have 10 points! I feel all virtuous. It won't last, but I've been carefully compiling lists of books (strangely compelling) for the 999 Challenge from my many unread books and have in this way kept myself from my wishlist (there may have been a very brief visit to a library book sale).

Anyway, one of my categories is "Recommendations" where I am asking certain exclusive people to please recommend a few of their favorite books. Would you please?
That's awesome!!!!! I've never used PBS, I'll have to look into it. Maybe we can compare notes once we both read it :D
I was so excited! I mooched 3 YA books from her, very very exciting!
*covers eyes to stop seeing ealain's evil plans for English* :-P

I'm about halfway through the first Villain book — I have it on the kitchen table and read snippets here and there while dinner's cooking and at odd moments. It's a lot of fun.

Thanks for checking my wishlist on SaCD; that was nice of you! Yes, we LOVE movie soundtracks! It's modern classical, really. And I love the feeling of being transported back into the world of the film.

Have your CDs been marked "received" yet? :-)
Yep, my first John Green, though I have Looking for Alaska in my TBR pile. Thanks for stopping by :)
Ha! School and soccer! I only have two children, but they are both soccer-mad and since they are in different age groups, their practices and games fall on different days...

I'm reading "Son of a Witch" right now and really enjoying it. I read "Wicked" back in the day and have liked all Maguire's books. I went camping over the weekend and needed a book battered enough to be suitable for roughing it. I love the way he creates these complex worlds that enhance and subvert the original tales.

A few leaves are beginning to change and we bought bags of rare apples in a small mountain town. Down here the small towns have the added weight of astonishing poverty and Confederate flags, but you'll have uncomplicated foliage up there. Enjoy.
It's reserved, enjoy

Beth
Cool - thanks for getting in touch! We do have a ton of books in common and I'm always happy to meet other fans of dystopia :)

I'm going to check out your library now.
Hi Brenda,

Not a problem - you did answer the post :) I just wanted to make sure you knew. The book(s) has supposedly been sent; I say supposedly as I thought they would have arrived by now, but if it is the other side of the country it can take over a week. Hopefully it will arrive early next week - I will send you the link from the BM site when it does. If it is not too heavy I will send it air mail as often there is not a huge difference in cost, but a huge difference in time.

Glad I could snag a book for you,
Lyn
Hi ealaindraoi,

I mooched your book for you Wizardology: The Book of the Secrets of Merlin (Ologies) - funnily enough I just mooched another angel request from the same member and it was accepted. Hopefully she will send them both together. I don't mind it is a hard cover - if it is very expensive I may send by surface mail. I hope this is OK.

I'll be in touch,
Lyn
Hi ealaindraoi! :) The link you gave won't go through, but yes, I'm on SaCD as well and I think I'm the only wisewoman there. Are you on SaCD? We really like it!

Oh, I wanted to mention, I got a copy of the Villain book through PBS. Muwhahahhahahahaha!!!!
I picked up my copy of "A Drink Before the War" last night, needing something I knew would be good. I'm reading as slowly as possible, but it won't last long before the only one left unread is his newest. Do you ever put off reading a favorite author? I'd just finished an ER in which nothing much happened for over 300 pages. You can't say that about Denis Lehane!
My birthday is May 15, which is still a long, long way.

Glad to hear you had a great day!
Happy birthday!
Hola! :) Good news! I managed to snag a copy of "Forgotten Fashions" from the author. I hope you like it; it's pretty funny!
Hiya,
Just to let you know that I'll post the books out next week. I'll mark them sent as soon as they've gone so you know. I usually send surface to outside Europe. Is that a big problem for you? Claire
Golly, maybe the algorithm went wacky. I actually requested fewer books than usual, and skipped some that I might have asked for, hoping to increase my chances at getting the fashion book. :-/ Won't bother with that again!

Thanks for sending me the message; when you finish the book just give me a holler and I'll come moochin'!
That works, thanks! :) And also for the brief review - I wasn't sure what to expect, but for someone who doesn't dig the genre to give it a favorable review is good enough for me!
Thank you very much! I appreciate the walk-through you left me, because I've never dealt with an angel mooch listing before.

Thanks again!
Okay, thanks, it is pretty simple. I just mooched it. And I'll be happy to receive it whenever.
Your package showed up at my house today. Thanks so much! I will read "Sea of Trolls" soon and send it back to you.
Hiya, Both of the remaining books have arrived. They're pretty much 'as new' condition! I've listed them and reserved them for you on a non-expiring reservation so feel free to Mooch at your leisure. I'll keep you 'posted' as to when they're sent (really didn't mean the pun, just couldn't come up with another word this early on a Monday morning!). Claire
Thanks! I understand that, reserved books can be kind of annoying, but you'll probably have to explain the angel listing to me, I've never actually used one before.
I bought a copy of Outlander way back in the day when I was working in a bookstore while I went to university. Diana Gabaldon was a first time author and came to do a signing and I ended up buying a copy (which I really couldn't afford) because I felt so sorry for her sitting there alone (I have several books purchased in similar circumstances). Anyway, I looked dismissively on it, but since she'd put my name in, I couldn't give it away. I started it one night and ended up staying up all night reading -- only not to be finished by the time I had to get up for school. It's well written and while there is a romance in there, it's not a "romance". Give it a try!

And on a completely different note, Alex's voice is what made "Everything is Illuminated" sing for me. And his blind chauffeur Grandfather's seeing eye bitch. And the story of the fallen potato. The magic realism in the village bits were weak.

Well, off to my son's fifth birthday party - must load everything into the car and then spend the afternoon supervising ten kindergartners all hopped up on cake. Both children are already about as over-excited as humanly possible without vomiting. And the husband has used up all of his slender supply of tolerance.
I received your books today and can't wait to read them. Thanks again so much!
I just got A Drink Before the War from a friend! I'm excited! Just wanted to let you know I don't need that one if you see it at the sale, but I would imagine someone else would like to have it. Thanks!
That would be fun reading about the area that you knew so well and have memories of. Reading Michael Connelly's books is freaking me out since they are about LA and Hollywood. My son moved to Hollywood six years ago out of college. I already worried so much about him there but now reading Connelly's books makes me even worse about it!
They made Everything Is Illuminated into a movie? I didn't know that. Is the movie any good? I haven't read the book either but I own it. Should I read the book or see the movie first? Which would you recommend?
Triskellion is on and reserved indefinitely for you - arrived this morning, read but good condition. Claire
Oh! You and Ridgewaygirl must have been on the same wavelength! Ok! I'll put that one aside and read the series first. According to LT series, it looks like A Drink Before the War (I think it's called) is the first in the series with Gone Baby in it. Is that right? That would be GREAT if you can pick up some of those in that series for me. Let me know if you get any and I can get them or some of them from you at PBS if that is where you need the points. I think I have have two points there. You guys are really making me want to read this guy's books now! I'm curious!
I've heard that Dennis Lehane books were excellent. Someone gave me Shutter Island, but I haven't read it yet. They sound like books that I would like. I usually need books that get my attention and keep it and sometimes that's hard to do! Thanks!
Thank you, thank you! I was mystified to find myself suddenly flush with points and it was you! Thank you!

The Tuesday Next books are well worth reading! Although this is one case where you do really have to read them in order. The first one is "The Eyre Affair" and I kept reading snippets to my husband. He ended up reading them as well. I love the idea of a world where art and literature are worth fighting over and there is a fantastic description of a book sale involving shoppers vaulting over shelving and pulling derringers on one another. I read it just before the library sale and was bitterly disappointed at the polite and restrained behavior of Greenville's bibliophiles.

Thank you!
Hiya Brenda, I've got 'Book Sent' notifications for all your three books already so they should be with me within a week all being well. I may not be able to post them out to you until the beginning of September but I will put them up on BM reserved for you as soon as I have them and leave you a profile comment. Hope that's OK? Claire
Thanks again.I'll keep your offer in mind also. I have been collecting the Sandford and Connolly books also! They were recommended to me a few months ago by someone, glad to know you agree!
Thanks so much for the Connelly books, you can't imagine how much I appreciate it. It is so sweet of you to do this for us. Thanks for sending me the message.
You are most welcome! And thank you for the smooch ... my first real one!
Thank you for Flora and Sea!

I actually enjoyed Jonathan Strange a lot, length and all. But I've always liked long books. And Heartsick is pretty good (but disturbing). I don't think you absolutely *have* to read the first one. Just know that in the first book there was a female serial killer and a detective who suffers from a form of Stockholm Syndrome about her.
Oh, btw... the Welsh book sounds great. I love all things Welsh :-D
I was happy with the castaway book :-D just haven't gotten to it yet. I did love the Deaver book. My mom had read it a year ago and raved about it, so I read it on her reco. I wouldn't mind more Deaver, ;-)
Ack, sorry it took me so long to follow up on my post. Anyway, if it's possible, I'd love to borrow Nancy Farmer's "The Sea of Trolls." I loved her other book, "The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm", and I've heard good things about "The Sea of Trolls."

Hope you're enjoying Flora!
Hi Brenda! Take as long as you want with Flora's Dare, and thank you so much for your list! I just got back from vacation in Florida half an hour ago (and immediately rushed to Librarything...) but once I become coherent I will definitely take a look!

Nancy
Once again... YOU HAVE THE GOLDEN TICKET!!!! I will reserve this for you on Bookmooch.
Please let me know how you get on with "Everything is Illuminated" and "The Corrections". I love both of those books so much I feel invested in other people's enjoyment of same.
Sounds great. I keep my eyes open for it and I'll let you know as soon as I find it.

I spent the weekend actually entering all my books into my Librarything catalog. The quantity of dust behind the books was a little embarrassing, but, with only a few shelves to do, my books are neatly organized and alphabetized. Also, they are sitting on dust-free shelves. I have many, many books that I haven't read and really want to. Must arrange more time in each day.
I just read your comment on my bookmooch 'friends' thing, and it made me laugh. I'm glad I could help educate you on clown loaches, ha ha. Really though, mine are creepy. They're like 5 - 8 inches long, and they've murdered our other fish. I like them best, anyway...
I checked out PBS a while ago and got confused lol.
I'll have to look again.
Thanks so much, O Super-Villain :-)
You have the golden ticket!!! I will put it on Bookmooch and reserve it for you. Do you have the same name there?
Hi there, I'm calming down also. Way too quickly driven to impassioned distraction! But still; yeah, we'll see what happens. Thing is, people DO like to form little clubs and hold tea parties or the on-line equivalent: reserved mooching as bonding ritual. How old are your daughters? Mine's 12 going on 20! Best wishe from a continent away!
That's ok! It's the new YA book, Read My Lips. It's easier to try out new things, if you aren't actually paying for them! I figured it was reserved when I saw it there!
Hi Brenda, sorry to hear about your Canadian moocher. If the book is still there, I'd be happy to get it for you (even stalk it for when it goes off reserve-- I'm at home most of the time and already check BM obsessively anyway).
Did you get any sort of closure with your unfriendly Canadian?

Unless something happens to change my mind, I am just giving Chuck Palahniuk a pass.
Brenda, hi. Thanks for your friendship and for sharing like views ~ your kindness gives me hope! Because of my pre-teen's angst with cliques & rejection, I've realized that exclusion can too easily become a very nuanced form of bullying, and I dread that it's already infected BookMooch. I nicked the image from a friend who found the sculpture in an Ohio history museum exhibit.

It is up if you want to mooch!
Brenda,
I wasn't planning on listing it, but in all honesty I probably won't reread it. My TBR list is out of control as it is. I'll list it as soon as BM is back up and reserve it for you.
They are passionate (even the four-year-old) about Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events. We all gather for our nightly chapter, we're up to the fourth book. It's well written, rather like an old silent film with the leering villain and people tied to railroad tracks, and is stretching my daughter's vocabulary in an entirely painless way.

Thanks for the information about the BoB. I was hoping to cultivate self-control instead! I do get a few mooches each week, the problem is that as soon as I have more than 5 points, I feel compelled to add recklessly to my wishlist. It's now over 250 and growing...And my TBR pile on the bedside table is leaning precariously, the shelves in the living room have books stacked on top of the rows, there are a few books piled on the piano...
I would LOVE the magazines once you're done with them. Thank you!

I've heard of the Millicent Min books before but I never actually picked one up. I think one of my sisters did though and mentioned it to me because the plot sounds familiar. Hmm...

Nancy
I posted an apology on the relevant thread but wanted to do it via comment too--I wrote in the thread about sending BookMooch requests internationally something that sounded like I was saying you were being negative. It was just a mis-use of a pronoun on my part and I never meant to infer that. I know this was weeks ago but somehow I missed proof-reading what I'd written and seeing what you wrote until now. Sorry to have posted a poorly-written message there and I hope it didn't upset you.
Happy to see that Queen arrived! *joins you in happy dance*
Congrats on the Dennis Lahane book. He is fantastic, even if I am sadder at the end of each one. If you like him, you may also like Denise Mina. Hers are set in Glasgow, Scotland, but there is a similar grittiness and she is also an excellent writer. (I think I would enjoy reading anything as long as it's written well!)

I have gotten an early reviewer book each of the three times a batch was offered since I signed on. It is even better than getting a book through BookMooch! Of course, the one I'm currently waiting for is about incest, so I am hoping it is very well written indeed.
I ran across a stack of remaindered Lulu Dark books. Are you still looking for them? I know you don't want the See Through Walls one, but I'll swing by the bookstore later today and see which ones are there and get back to you. I saw them, recognized that someone somewhere had mentioned looking for them, but it took me a few hours for my memory to be fully restored to me. Unless you aren't the one looking for them, in which case, I will go eat fish.
Here's the link for you to mooch "The Queen of Attolia."

http://bookmooch.com/m/detail/BM12119888...

I won't be able to send it for about a week; I hope that's okay!

As for the 1995 edition of the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, I would LOVE to have your copy.

Cheers,

Nancy
Hi ealaindraoi! I saw in the Bookmooching group that you're looking for "The Queen of Attolia." I accidentally ordered two copies off a remaindered book site. If you still want it, I'd be happy to send the second copy to you once it arrives.
oooh - thank you!! It's cmt. Honestly, I really don't mind waiting till your next international posting.
Thanks :-) It's addictive...I even ordered one of those bar code scanner thingies.
Thank you so much! I spent a very pleasant hour on Mother's Day adding books to my wishlist (I have lost all control) so it is very welcome.
Thank you! you are definately one of the best LT'ers around... and BM'ers... and PBS'ers... :-D You really spread the love, eh? :-))
I liked it, and my husband is reading it now and enjoying it and he likes the fantasy genre. It's more a literary thriller where the characters are trying to track down Dracula and it's full of the history of Romania, Turkey and old Vlad the Impaler. It's really well written and I will read almost anything when it's written well! It is hefty, which made me put off starting it, but I was sorry to see it end. It had almost the old fashioned feel of a gothic but with a lot of serious research behind it.
Let me know how The Memory Keeper's Daughter is -- it's on my shelf. Vinegar Hill (on your TBR) was ok, but it felt so like a first novel completed in a writing seminar. It might also be that I had just read too much light literary fiction (is that a genre? You know, the ones with the Oprah medallion on the front?). Still, it wasn't set in NYC. Maybe I'm reading too much these days. Nahhh...

Second Helpings was wonderful. Just thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you so much!
Thank you, thank you! It came today and it is leap-frogging all the other books that stare at me reproachfully as I walk by. Both my children had exciting week-ends that involved sleep-overs, so today they are cranky and slow, my allergies are dancing through my sinus cavities like rain through cotton candy but I am happy, happy, happy. Thank you.

RidgewayGirl
I did it, I added a currently reading section. I went to the library sale this weekend. It was fantastic, I now have books piled on top of my books that until now have been neatly shelved.
I know! I feel very well taken care of by the BookMooching LTers!

As for Stewart O'Nan...try something else by him. He sets most of his books among the strip malls and decaying industrial towns of the American Northeast and I love his sense of place - he makes a mall or a chain restaurant worth writing about. I liked "Snow Angels" and his newest "Last Night of the Lobster" is fantastic and also very short. But wait til spring is really going; there always seems to me tons of dirty, melting snow piled up on the edges of the pages of his books and since you're in Maine it might not seem so exotic!

RidgewayGirl
You do have points! I am in awe of your self-control.

I have requested that you become my friend on BookMooch.

I am just enjoying BookMooch so much more (and I loved it before) since I found the LT BookMooch group. Diversity is great, but there is enormous comfort in finding a group of like-minded and friendly people.

How wonderful of you! Thank you so much! I'm not on PBS, it costs more per book than BookMooch, doesn't it? Could I send you 2 or 3 points on BookMooch and just have you send it to me? What do you think? Oh, I am so pleased!

RidgewayGirl
oooh!!! first comment!! Thank you for the help ;-) You are a true gem and you make LT a better spot. :-* !
