Sobre mimI work as the Library Manager for a private school for girls. I've always loved teen fiction, and that has never changed. There's so many great books out there, and I love sharing these with others.

Sobre a minha bibliotecaThis collection showcases 'Fabulous fiction for terrific teens', which is a presentation I gave at the LIANZA conference in Auckland in November 2008, while working for the National Library of New Zealand. It predominantly contains new teen fiction, but I've snuck in some of my older, much loved titles too. I'm continuing to add to the collection, as I just can't stop reading YA fiction!

I'm waiting impatiently for:
Cloudland - Lisa Gorton
Hunger games III - Suzanne Collins
The last of the warrior kings - Sarah Mussi
Quenton Cohen Professional Chef - MAC
I, Q: Independence Hall - Roland Smith
Money run - Jack Heath
Goodbye Jamie Boyd - Elizabeth Fensham
Tough enough - Tanya Hutley
Shifty - Lynn Hazen
11 birthdays - Wendy Mass
The dragon of Trelian - Michelle Knudsen
The day of the pelican - Katherine Paterson
Geektastic: Stories from the nerd herd - ed Holly Black
Dragonfly - Julia Golding
Forest born - Shannon Hale
Crazy beautiful - Lauren Baratz-Logsted
The piper's son - Melina Marchetta

Hello fabfic!
Thank you for the hints and tips! I do not live in New Zealand, but I wish I did! Here in America I couldn't even find Dreamquake Barnes & Noble...had to go through Amazon. Hmm The Invisible Road just doesn't have the same ring to it, but I'm guessing Knox didn't have much to do with that decision. I've never read any of Mahy's books, though I've been wanting to. Thanks for giving me a place to start! Have a great new year!
Hi,

We obviously share similar taste in books - I'm jealous by how many of the ones on my wishlist you have already read! I think you'll enjoy Ostrich Boys when it arrives - it should be worth the wait. Glad to see I'm not the only one who enjoyed the Cassandra Clare and Melissa Marr books - if you have any suggestions for similar books I'd love to hear them!

Happy Holidays!
Thanks Fabfic-terrificteens. Boy that's a mouthful said out loud. I look forward to your recommends in 2009.
Hi, I was thrilled to see you liked my book, Saltwater Moons!
The title is incorrectly listed on your page as Saltwater moons (small m instead of capital M). Is there a way to correct that? I am new to the site. Best wishes,
Julie Gittus
I am slowly adding to mine.. although I find it easier to add authors than individually put on each of their books that I read and liked (and own!)... also, It is very time consuming bulk adding - I hope at some stage to have it reasonably managable so I can just add as I read (if I like - can't be bothered putting duds with low ratings on)... and the odd few that I read a long time ago and loved - even great books get submerged when you're drowing in reading material! :)
Oops! Haven't logged in all week :) I went to your presentation at LIANZA (and said hello briefly but you did have a swarm of greeters at the time).
Hello!
Yes I was at your talk! I work for Auckland City Libraries, and am in change of the teen fiction area. Thank you for your passionate talk, it was the highlight!
It reminded me why I love teen fiction!
Hi!,
Yes I went to your talk "Fabulous Fiction for Terrific Teens", I am a younger Librarian (still in my teens actually)from Aucland City Library.I thought what you did with LibraryThing was such a wicked idea. I am slowly getting myself there with reading teen fiction but I am a bit biased with what I like personally. At the moment I am recommending any teens who ask to your LibraryThing to take a good look.
I was so inspired by your presentation at LIANZA and am looking forward to exploring LT.
I thought your talk was a highlight at the conference. You have such a passion for reading. I couldn't wait to get on librarything to see the rest of your reviews! Thanks so much
Thanks for checking out my library. I'm excited to check out some of the New Zealand authors you've tagged. I love a good dystopia and both Juno of Taris and Silverstream sound really good! Your job sounds incredible, too, I'm jealous :o) Have a great time at your conference next month.
Hi, thanks for the comment. I'm actually new to working in school libraries this year, so my school is still hammering out our use of LibraryThing in the school context. I've considered sharing my own library as well as developing a library reflecting the school's collection. Any way you slice it, LT makes for a wonderful RA tool. I'll keep you posted!
I hadn't twigged that you were the same person as raising_a_reader!
Yep, the kids books are lovely. We have a 4 year old (not in my photo - can't find a nice one of me and both kids) and he's very keen to start reading Harry Potter. i'm holding back though because I think it's too scary. What do you reckon?
Doh, I just looked harder and you're based in Auckland! I just saw National Library and thought you'd be down here. Never mind... maybe there'll be one up there soon.
Hi! I just saw your post in the girlybooks thread, noticed you were from NZ and wondered if you knew there's a LibraryThing meet up in Wellington this Friday night? Details are in the New Zealand Thingamabrians group! (I think it's Borders at 6.30).

And you have a VERY cool sounding job!

Cheers
Cushla
Hey were abouts in NZ are you?
Hi Fabfic, as you can see I have pretty much hijacked your yr7/8 library as a booklist. I DO have many of them in the school library but will add more to my wish list. I will also personalise as I go but this seemed a good place to start.
I plan to be at conference and look forward to hearing your presentation.
See you there
I just bought The knife of Never Letting Go. I'm excited that you loved it. I haven't seen anyone talking about it yet here.
Hi there!
Thanks so much- I love your library too! And I’m also sorry it took me a while to reply, I’ve been away for awhile. =D It is so awesome that you’re from NZ too! I can hardly ever find any kiwis on the web- especially ones that like YA! And Auckland too! I’m at Otago Uni right now, but when the semesters over I’ll be going back to Mount Roskill. =)
I really love your tags too. ‘everything old is new again’, ‘sex drugs and rock 'n' roll!’, etc. =D I have tons of books I haven’t added to my library but I’ll probably do that in the summer holidays… sorry, once I get on a roll I bore everyone’s pants off! ;) Ooh yes, and I just started reading Chalice and it’s pretty good so far. =) Oh yes and GOOD LUCK with your presentation!

~Lucy D =)
Have you read Home of the Brave by Applegate? Its fabulous! I WGHS copy of of voilence 101 as Denis Wright is a personnel friend. Suitable for sec students due to the voilence!
Hey Fab,

I thought So you want to be a wizard was a rather slow read, but I hope you like it! Are you going to finish the Percy Jackson series? They are rather good, I'm hoping to pick up the fourth one soonish but I'm trying to be good too and avoid Amazon (my downfall, it really is)

But I'm defiently going to Sebastion St. Cyr mysteries, they sound really interesting! It's funny that you mentioned Willig, whomI'm reading right now, The Deception of the Emerald Ring, her books make me laugh out loud so it's not a really good book to read out in public.

Laters,

Selkie
Thanks for the recommendation, fabfic! I'm just waiting for my library to finally buy it. If I bought every book I wanted to read, I'd be living in a cardboard box.

I'll keep an eye on your library. Good luck with the presentation!
Thank you so much for the kind words about my book, Hugging the Rock. I'd love to hear from any NZ readers and what they think. I so appreciate the hard work of librarians everywhere who help put books into the hands of children who need them.
That's great. I'm going to do a real exploration of your library now to pick up new ideas. I've recently retired, but I spent a very long (and very happy time) teaching primary children and then teaching children and teen literature at University. But I did all that because I loved the literature and I will never stop reading it.
