Thanx for reaffirming the 'friendship invitation' by accident... Yeah, I am also learning this site slowly, and do not comprehend yet all its' features. I hope that there won't be more serious accidents than that! :-)
No, I do not know Douglas Harding, but I 'put him on my list', for future readings, as it sounds interesting. And, as said previously, you have quite a many books which are, or should be on this 'list' of mine...
Joel, I've realized that you have a lot of theology books, and this brings me to ask you, if you have settled your 'relations with god'? These books, this subject, belong to the past, or is it a current/continuous 'project' for you? Would be nice to hear from you about this.
Now, to the Karinthy issue, to coincidences... As a matter of fact, the book in my 'library' is just the book you mentioned with its English title - in the original, Hungarian language. I inherited this book from my late mother's library, which, regretfully, I could keep only partially. Anyway, I tried to read it many years back, but couldn't go through it, as I found it too 'heavy' then. Now, that you have recommended it (that's the way I comprehended your comment on it) - after reading your mail, I got up, pulled it straight out from the shelf and read it - almost breathlessly.
Yes, heavy it is still. But, to continue with the coincidence line - the subject, regretfully, is incredibly relevant to my situation at the moment: being on recovery after a dog-accident caused operation... with many-many of Karinthy's contemplations similar to mine in these days!
So, though being a totally secular person, far away from any hint or smell of mysticism even, this is a considerable 'piece' of coincidence chain (all explainable!)!
So, thank you for excavating for me this marvelous, serious book which made me laugh more than once, and will gladly hear from/about you more,
best,
Ariel
