Sobre mimHey there: I'm Joe Hill, author of Heart-Shaped Box, 20th Century Ghosts, and a comic book, Locke & Key. I'm socially networked to the gills, what with the website (see below), the message board, and the MySpace page... that said, LibraryThing is a particularly favorite stop of mine on the intraweeb, as it scratches my natural itch to obsess over my reading.
Sobre a minha bibliotecaI've been keeping a private diary of books read for over two decades now. I also end each year by making a list of my ten or so favorite books. All those lists are here for anyone with an interest in seeing them. The earliest is my top ten from 1990, which records my favorite books from the year I turned 18.
In 2007, I kept track of just about everything I read here on LibraryThing. That's right, you can review the whole sorry story for yourself; just check the tag marked BOOKS READ - 2007.
Here in 2008, I seem to be doing a lot of research. And because I like to stay private about works in progress, I won't be publicly listing everything I read this year. But I'll still be around, checking in on comments, and at the end of the year I'll stick up a top ten from 2008.
Recently, over on my website, I started a little book club: Words + Pictures. Readers convene on an irregular schedule, two or three times a year, to read and discuss a novel and a graphic novel paired together. For example, this October we're reading AMERICAN WIFE by Curtis Sittenfeld and AMERICAN WIDOW by Alissa Torres and Sungyoon Choi. No telling what the next novel + comic pair will be, but it's likely we'll cover a broad variety of genres (I was thinking maybe Alan Moore's TOP TEN and Jon Lethem's FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE for a "capes" theme). If I can figure out how to do it, I'll create a group here on LibraryThing, and we can do the book club thing here as well as on my message board.

If the quality of dem comics is any indication, you, sir, guy, are a much stronger writer than your old pah.
You know, to sound like a snobby prick!
(Although actually calling the town Lovecraft is a little in-yr-face, a little over-the-top-as-in-like-enough-to-suspen... cheesy.)
Wait, are you still even updating this page?

I just came here to thank you for filling a solid chunk of my off-hours at work for the past three days with an entertaining story.
Keep up the good work and I'll keep reading.

Ever since I found LT a few years ago, I can't help but notice the coincidences that keep occurring. I have had "Heart-Shaped Box" for a month or two and decided to pick it up a few days ago. Of course, I am zipping through it and hate to be interrupted while reading it. I was on another LTer's page and noticed your name in her friends list and clicked. As I read your page I saw that you were reading "The American Wife" which I obtained in audiobook from the library...today! Before I got on the computer! That's a coincidence. I always have an audiobook going because I hate to be in the truck without some stimulation and I have probably listened to some things I might never have physically read that way. Coincidentally, I saw "20th Century Ghosts" on the shelf, in audiobook, and grabbed that also. I see on here that it received high praise. I write also, and my genre of choice is horror. I'm not too much about blood and guts, but lean more toward the psychological side of being scared to death. I'm really enjoying "Box" because Jude is in his head so much of the time, and who is to say that is not where the most frightening ghosts find the most vulnerable part of us? Right now I am working on a story involving a ghost from the past making contact with a modern-day girl, and I think the setting is very unique. I hope to glean some inspiration from your short stories. I hope to hear from you, as I don't know if you have been on here much lately, but I will check out some of your sites. Incidentally, I have recently read Neil Gaiman's "The Graveyard Book' and "Coraline" the graphic novel, which was one of my first experiences with that. He's wonderful and I so enjoyed all the characters in "The Graveyard Book." Have you seen the movie "Coraline"? Of course the novel was much darker, but I enjoyed the movie, too. Well, it's fantastic to be able to communicate with you,if only to say how much I am enjoying your books. Thank you and keep up the good work! Mary Beth

Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed LOCKE & KEY and very much looking forward to the continuation. The story was engrossing, the characters were 3 Dimensional and the graphics bold and gripping. A step above most in the genre.
Keep up the great work!
P.S. Just recently finished "20th Century"-Loved it. Short stories have never been my thing, but these were excellent. Beautiful in fact.
Thanks again!

I was almost in tears. My husband and I have been slowly collecting and reading them over the past few years so the finality left a pang.
Speaking of rides, I had been reading Heart Shaped Box this Summer, (had put it away when we moved in April and found it when I unpacked my office), and was on the same road to Florida,(Siesta Key), in June at the same time Jude and Georgia were.....it was a very surreal experience!
I look forward to many more years of enjoying your work and thank you for the friendship.
All the best,
Dorian
