Sobre a minha bibliotecaWhen I rate a book it's done on a scale from 1 to 5 based on the criteria used by my favorite online group, the Book Bunch reading group at Book Chat Central:
5 = Fabulous, probably will be an all-time favorite
4 = Excellent, among the year's best
3 = Better than Average, a good solid read; I'd recommend to most
2 = Fair to Good Read, worth the time; would recommend to some but not all
1 = So-so, barely finished, several quibbles
1/2 = the Dorothy Parker rating: "This book should not be tossed lightly aside. It should be thrown with great force."
But I don't rate everything (particularly not mysteries) so just because I don't click any stars for a book, doesn't mean I don't like it!

Have you started/finished yet? Overall, I liked it, but I thought it started getting long after about 3/4 of the way through. I wrote a review, if you want to read that. Let me know what you think of it!

I notice in your To Be Read pile you have Beloved, Nickel and Dimed, Oryx and Crake, and The Sweet Hereafter - all excellent books! They are all in my Extreme Favorites section. I hope you enjoy them once you have read them. I also see that you recently added The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Everyone I know who has read it (probably about 5 or 6 people) has adored it. Their faces light up when they talk about it. Have you read it yet? I haven't read it and don't own it - I tend to wait for paperbacks (which can be kind of tough sometimes).
You also have Five Smooth Stones in your To Be Read pile. I remember reading that in high school and really loving it. I'm not sure what happened to my copy. I must have stupidly sold it in a garage sale. Sheesh! And now it's out of print.
Happy reading,
Pam

You have quite a few books that I would love to read. I think I am going to make my next book shopping list from some of the things in your library:) Have a lovely day.

It is well over a month after you made mention of my Franzen review and I just now saw the comment. Sorry! I'm glad you appreciated my review. Good to know I'm not totally off-base.

I see we have 30 books in common and that you also have an interest in England. Well I live on the south coast of England and thought that might be of interest to you. What kind of books do you write and are they published in England? Happy New Year and all the best for 2008

We have mucho books in common including all the Nevada Barr mysteries. If you haven't ever read a Sarah Andrews mystery you might want to try one. Andrews' main character is a woman geologist, who is a little bit of a weaker woman initially than Anna, but the overall themes are on the same track - outdoors, geology aspects to the murders, etc.

I see we share a fair proportion of books. I think I have about half of mine entered. I noticed you rated Isabella Bird's book on the Rocky Mountains highly, it is on my to get list because I read her book on Hawaii recently and was very impressed by her.
This site is way too much fun!
Cheers!

Thanks so much for the information about the Early Reviewers requirements. I've updated my review of "Peony in Love" to be 25+ words. I appreciate your looking out for me! :)
We share 75 books! I'm off to check out your catalog now.
Thanks again,

This is just a great way of cataloguing books, and it links in so nicely with BCC don't you think?
As usual, I have noted down all your high-star reads in the knowledge that I am likely to enjoy them too. It's so useful to have a like-minded reader! (Doesn't help the size of my TBR pile though LOL!)
See you back at BCC...

I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you....
No. I'm not the one who originally mentioned this site. I thought it was you.........
I'm having so much fun with it. I am going back to when I very first remember being read to before going nite-nite. That's a long, long, long time ago.
And of course, keeping up with BCC..
Love it!!!

Hope you are enjoying your vacation! I actually quit reading Inheritance of Loss. Might be me, not the book, I haven't been happy with my reading choices lately, although I am reading Echo Maker now, a National Book Award finalist and liking it immensely. Doing displays on Horror for Halloween and Chick Lit for the heck of it, neither are quite my genre!

I really liked Black Swan Green because I listened to it and the reader was fabulous..all the accents and that.
Anyway, I have to quit playing around and get to work writing a book review.
