Sobre mimI'm the author of 40 books for children, with more on the way. My best-known title is Library Lion (Candlewick Press), which was a New York Times bestseller and has been translated into several languages. My latest book is a middle-grade fantasy novel called The Dragon of Trelian. In one of my earlier lives, I was a full-time children’s book editor, and I continue to edit manuscripts on a freelance basis today (see my website for more information). I have also worked as a bookseller, substitute teacher, library supervisor, and managing editor, among other things. I live in Brooklyn, New York.

Sobre a minha bibliotecaWhat's listed here isn't close to representing my whole library, but it's a good beginning. I read mostly children's/middle-grade/YA and science fiction and fantasy, although I also enjoy occasional non-genre fiction and interesting nonfiction. I keep track of most of my "to read" books over on Goodreads, and am trying to keep my LibraryThing list to books I own and/or have already read. I try to get a lot of books from the public library these days, so there are getting to be more and more "read but unowned" titles on my list.

I used to rate and write reviews of books, but now I seldom do. I generally won't include books I really disliked in my list, and at some point (when I have some more time!) I will start a "favorites" collection to highlight books I especially loved.

Christmas Greetings
[From A Fairy To A Child]

By
Lewis Carroll

Lady dear, if fairies may
For a moment lay aside
Cunning tricks in elves play,
'Tiss at happy Christmas tide.

We have heard the children say-
Gentle children, whom we love-
Long ago on Christmas-Day
Came a message from above.

Still, as Christmas-tide it comes around,
They remember it again-
Echoes filled the joyful sound
"Peace on earth goodwill to men!"

Yet the hearts must child-like be
Where such heavenly guests abide,
Unto children, in their glee,
All the chill year is Christmas-tide.

Thus, forgetting tricks and play
for a moment, lady dear,
We will wish you, if we may
Merry Christmas, glad New Year.
I just finished, rated, and reviewed your new book, The Dragon of Trelian, which I got through LT's Early Reviewer program. When I saw you were an LT author I had to come tell you how much I enjoyed it. I'm already excited to reread it and I hope you have plans for a sequel. No pressure, of course! ;) Thank you for the wonderful story. Thanks to your publisher as well for participating in the ER program. I'm certainly spreading the word about this book.
Hi,
We LOVE Library Lion! We being me, my 9 year old son, and my 7 year old daughter. We often wish for a lion to lean aginast at story time. Thanks for a great story.
Hey! I didn't know the author of Library Lion was an LT author—great! Thanks for the book!
Oh, Michelle! I absolutely adored "Library Lion." My only child is 24-years-old and a third-grade teacher in South Carolina, but she had to nab a copy of her own. My copy is on its way to being well-worn and loved, ready for future grandchildren.

As a lifelong reader, there are only a handful of books that have brought tears to my eyes. "Library Lion" is one of them. Thanks for a great book! Best, Ellison
Hi, Michelle--Just wanted to thank you for Library Lion. We (me,5 year old and 2 year old) love it! (It doesn't hurt that I'm one of those rule-abiding librarians!)
