I was pulled into Temeraire's world after your first book was offered for free via the Sony E-reader site. So happy I've discovered your writing if a bit late. I've now read the second book as well and purchased the rest of the series. (One of the joys of discovering you late is no wait between books!)
Fantastic idea to offer the first book on the kindle for free. Without that I probably never would have read it, and now I will certainly be buying the second book as soon as I finish, which should be very shortly.
I bought and read the first book about Temeraire, and it is my cup of tea, since I love dragons and seafaring novels, most prominently Patrick O'Brian's series.
I am an author too, of a book about celebrating Christmas, and am happy to meet you.
Dear Ms. Novik,
I just finished reading the first three books in the Temeraire series and wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed them. I'm a Patrick O'Brian fan, for the characterization and historical flavor not the nautical detail and accuracy everyone talks about. The characters are my favorite part of your books, too, especially the social dynamics of aviators vs. Navy, etc. But I have to say in your books I feel more strongly than in O'Brian the overwhelming threat Napoleon posed to Europe -- perhaps because the O'Brian books are set in the Navy where Britain was clearly superior and yours deal more with the land wars. It gives me the best elements of historical fiction -- that the result we know wasn't inevitable.
Anyway these books are the first books with dragons that I've read since junior high (not counting those few cameos in Harry Potter). Thanks very much for writing them and bringing me and so many others hours of enjoyment.
Nan
Dear Ms. Novik;
Thank you for Temeraire! "Victory of Eagles" is the best yet in the series. I have my husband hooked too, and I relished his reading of VoE (and his giggles, cackles, and astonished hoots) almost as much as my own. We both think the admiralty will never be the same. I'm a little in love with Jane, or perhaps I want to be her when I grow up.
Thanks for signing up for LT; it's a wonderful site, and I'm looking forward to seeing you around.

Dear Ms Novik,
As a long time fan of Napoleonic Naval stories, having cut my juvenile teeth with Hornblower, and worked my way through Ramage to Patrick O'Brian, I was, I have to confess, a little apprehensive when I came across the Temeraire series. You have, however, scored a palpable hit - and I practically jumped for joy when I read Janus' reference to the "Surgeon of the Sophie" in Victory of Eagles!
As our mutual friend would say "May God set a flower upon your head!"
Looking forward to future instalments.
Ian
Afternoon! I spent the last couple weeks tearing through your Temeraire books, and I've been recommending them to everyone I know. I love the way you captured British society, and how you brought dragons into it. I can't wait to read what happens next (especially excited about the Peter Jackson note!).
Dear Mrs. Novik,

Thank you for your literary contribution with the Temeraire series. I have purchased the first three (finished the first) and must concede that you are a supremely talented author and storyteller.

In a day and age where technology seems to be overtaking literature, I am pleased to see someone who has enough sit-down-upon to write novels and to do it in such exquisite form and fashion as yourself.

Thank you once again. So far, Throne of Jade is extremely interesting. I hope you continue to write.

-Philip Troy
Miss Novik, I certainly did not come here to make you feel bad or anger you, but I wanted you to know that Empire of Ivory sort of pulled you out of the "list of series I might be giving up on." I've pre-ordered the next one (in paperback - sorry, I am the worst sort of critic - one too poor to buy hardback!) If you want to know what might have stopped me reading, it was just pacing problems with the other books, nothing personal against Temeraire or anything! So, I have critisized, but at least I have been specific!

Go Dragons!
Not that you asked...or should particularly care...but Temeraire and the dragons in your work have made me re-evaluate a long, long held prejudice against any alternate history work with mystical or mythtical creatures as characters.

"Victory of Eagles" was delightful, as I know you know, and I look forward with bated breath to the next installment. Thanks for turning me on my head.

Cheers
RMD
I absolutely love your work! I just finished reading His Majesty's Dragon after borrowing the series from a friend. Wow, I love how you meld Napoleanic France and dragons. I cannot wait to start the rest of the series. I hope you continue this series for several more books.
I love your books. I read some and listened to some; Simon Vance is a terrific actor. I'm sorry I missed your recent appearances in the Bay Area. I'll have to catch you next time.
Hi! I just finished Temeraire (the book one) last night and I love it. I already have Black Powder War waiting and I've been looking for Throne of Jade from BookMooch, but now I'll just have to buy it, I can't wait - I must know what happens next! Thanks a lot, this was an extraordinaly entertaining book!
This is a fantastic series. I have read and will re-read them again and again. One misses a lot on
the first reading of any book. Anxiously awaiting the next volume.
Thank you for giving me a new world to escape to, when I need to escape.

Happy Birthday! I love your books!
Here's another encomium for you:

I checked _His Majesty's Dragon_ out of the library, read it, and loved it. Enough so that I bought it and the next three in the series from the bookstore where I work. I regularly recommend your books to customers.

Keep them coming.

Thanks, ReneeMarie
Wow, I just finished [[Empire of Ivory]] and I have loved all four Temeraire books. I can't wait for the next one. I think the pacing in your books is fantastic, I never found myself getting bored and wondering when something interesting was going to happen. (I am so nervous about what is going to happen to Laurence and Temeraire in the next one.)

I thought you might find it interesting that I read all of your books on the Amazon Kindle e-reader. I hope the next book comes out in Kindle version at the same time as the hardback!
Just finished book one of the Temeraire series on my Kindle. Greatly enjoyed it, and mailed a copy to a friend. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Hello there! I loved Temeraire/His Majesty's Dragon. I'm getting the next three books for Christmas and I can't wait to read them.

Thanks for the stories! A happy Christmas to you and yours.

=) ian (Philippines)
Congratulations on winning the Campbell Award. It is richly deserved. Enjoyed your point of view on the copyright panel at Worldcon. Looking forward to your next book.
Ms. Novik - I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your writing! As someone who loves both history and fantasy, your books really seemed to grab me and pull me in! I originally borrowed them from the library, but decided I liked them so much that I needed to own them. I also work at a public library and enjoy finding new authors to recommend to people. I look forward to reading your newest book soon as well. Thanks for all your hard work!
Your Temeraire books are the first series in a long time that I have bought all at once rather than waiting until I finish a book to buy the next one. I picked up His Majesty's Dragon from the library after reading a review on SmartBitchesTrashyBooks.com, and after reading twenty pages or so during breaks at work, I bought all three that evening. I put them on hold while I finished rereading the last book of another series, but plan to start in earnest tomorrow. (This is also why you'll see that the Aubrey/Maturin series are the only books our libraries have in common- I tend to enter books after I finish reading them.)
I knew as soon as I read His Majesty's Dragon that we shared a love of Patrick O'Brian. Your books are terrific accompaniments to the master's oeuvre. I shared them with my brother and sister, who are also big O'Brian fans, and they also enjoyed them a lot. In fact, my sister, who normally doesn't care for fantasy at all, has been asking me repeatedly when the next Temeraire adventure will be out. We're all glad it's soon!
Forgive my hysterical rambling, but I love your books! My mom and I read them together, and we agree that they're some of the best books we've ever read. I really cannot wait for your next book. Temeraire is one of my favorite dragon stories, because you still get the feeling that he's a fierce dragon, but neither is he evil. Congrats on the movie deal! Can't wait for the movie, and I'm sure if anyone could really catch the essence of your books, it's Peter Jackson. Good luck with everything.
Hi, Ms. Novik. I hope you don't mind the imposition, but I am a member of a forum called The Green Dragon (wait! don't stop reading yet!) and we do a lot of group reads. Recently, we just finished [Elantris] (which almost all of us universally adored), and we had the pleasure of Brandon Sanderson finding our group in a roundabout way and participating in the discussion. He answered a lot of questions, and was just generally a very personable guy. We had the highest turnout for a group read that we've had since I joined the comm. (Almost 500 posts!)

We are currently considering reading His Majesty's Dragon (I've already read and really enjoyed it) and were wondering if you would be interested in stopping by for a chat now and again?

Hey - it'd mean great book sales! We've got 539 members, and I bet quite a few are going to run out to buy a copy. Also, Brandon wrote a very convincing article about why devoted readers should buy the hardback copies of books written by favorite authors. Hint, hint.
Good luck with the Hugo! I'm sure you'll win.
Congratulations on the Hugo nomination!
Our common books are the Aubrey-Maturin series and nothing else (except A Sea of Words.)
I just finished His Majesty's Dragon and greatly enjoyed it. I look forward to picking up your other two books. Keep up the good work!
I just burned through all three of your Temerarie novels. You ROCK! I Cannot wait to see where you take us Next.
Thanks you.
Thank you so much for your wonderful Temeraire series. I've just finished reading "His Majesty's Dragon", almost in one sitting! I can hardly wait to read the others.
I was going to ask about your picture, but I see SimonW11 beat me to it.
So how come you have not uploaded a picture to your author page?
Congratulations on having your books optioned by Peter Jackson. Great news ;-)
Loved the trilogy - ordered them from the States after finding the first in my local Irish bookshop. Can't wait for the next installments!
I'm reading Black Powder War at the moment having torn throught he other two. This series is like the best of fantasy and historical fiction woven together. Please keep on writing!
I just finished reading "His Majesty's Dragon", and I absolutely loved it. I especially like the way the dragons' different personalities and abilities came through in the book. In many other fantasies I've read, dragons all look similair, have similiar abilities, or both. I was sometimes able to forget that they were dragons I was reading about, and think of them as people. I just bought the next two books in the series, and I can't wait to start them!
My daughter turned me on to your novels. We raced to see who could buy them first. We enjoyed them very much and look forward to more.
Very much enjoyed the Temeraire books.
I must add my voice to the chorus. I just finished His Majesty's Dragon (a library copy) and enjoyed it very much. I will now go and buy it and the sequels, and I'll be recommending them to my sister and anyone else who will sit still long enough. Thanks!
Wow. I just finished His Majesty's Dragon and am about to add it to my catalogue. I absolutely loved it and can't wait to read Throne of Jade. Thank you for writing such an enthralling series!
I have just finished the three Temeraire novels and enjoyed them very much. Also, I just discovered librarything from your mention of it at temeraire.org - thank you doubly!
I am reading His Majesty's Dragon now, and just ordered the next two in the series from Amazon today, after falling in love with the storyline. I'm happy to see that you have plans to continue the series. I've always loved the Regency era in England, and I am really enjoying the alternate history you present. Good luck with everything you have in the pipeline, and good work on everything so far :-)
Ms. Novik - It was a delightful surprise to stumble across your virtual library tonight. I am halfway through Throne of Jade and am loving the series. I will be keeping an eye out for your future works.
How serendipitous. Just yesterday I heard about your new series and ordered it for the book store where I work. I'll no doubt be adding the three titles to my own catalog shortly.
