I'm in San Francisco. Almost felt like I was in Detroit this morning! Salt and sand was being sprinkled on roads and sidewalks. Wasn't sure where I was!

So I just finished another Walser last night. The Assistant. Not sure what to pick up next. I set out Japrisot's Very Long Engagement and Klima's Ultimate Intimacy. Any thoughts either way? I brought the Klima with me to work today and will give it a test-run on the train ride home. Both sound good but would love to hear what you have to say on these two...if anything.

Well, stay warm and happy reading!

Tough call since this year has been a blur and a little light on reading, comparatively.

I'd probably have to scan the shelves to shock myself into remembering but what leaps to mind right now is Seven Ages of Paris (forgot the author) for a nice overall history of Paris...remember it as well-written and flows well,

Robin Robertson's Swithering for poetry,

and probably re-reading Bruno Schulz's Street of Crocodiles, a short story collection by a Polish-Jewish writer who died during the war. Even in translation, the prose comes across very strongly and very uniquely, even simple stuff like describing the sunlight on the street, etc.

I'm sure there's more but that's what occurs to me at the mo'.
what are the favorite books you read over the past year or so??
