Sobre mimMother of 7 children (all adults--3 married and 4 in college!). I have always loved to read. When I was a teenager I used to read by the streetlight coming through my window at night long after my parents wanted the lights out. I have always loved books and am a strong supporter of my local library. I tend to bring home stacks at a time--way more than I can ever read.

Now that I'm relegated to bifocals to read, I find I enjoy audio books more than struggling with the words on a page. Unfortunately, not everything comes in LARGE PRINT. It makes walking, gardening, laundry and housework much more tolerable when I have an audio book going.

Hi Sharlene,

You have read nearly all the fiction books I have listed so I came over for a visit. It's good to see you have put so many intelligent thoughtful reviews out there.

I know what you mean glasses. My close vision has become totally fuzzy. I can't read with bifocals but I'm fine with drugstore reading glasses. You might give them a try.

Be well,
Nancy
Hello Sharlene, We have read Lowboy by John Wray (loved it-psych book), Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels (great read, very emotional), and are now on The Great Derangement by Matt Taibbi (the jury is still out-only 140 pages into it). I am also reading Siddhartha on the recommendation of a friend (very spiritual and lyrical so far). Here is the website again so you can keep checking for books and my reviews wwhen I get around to reading them. http://www.lmoskal.net/bookclub/newbookc... Enjoy your reading and take care. Jeff
Noticed you liked She's Come Undone, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a disturbed young girl's downward spiral and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Hey Sharlene, Thanks for replying. We are all educators but worked in the same high school. I was pleased you actually thought we were college professors! We enjoy thinking we are prodigious intellectuals. Just kidding. Our website guy has slacked off in posting our newest book club selections. I will let him know how disappointed you were not to see the newest selections. We have read The Given Day and just finished Three Cups of Tea for March. I highly recommend Three Cups of Tea and found it inspirational and fascinating. It is a story of Greg Mortenson's fight against terrorism by building schools for girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Given Day was also educational and appealed to me becuase of my enjoyment with baseball and a desire to learn more about our history. Interestingly, I find that many times fiction books contain much historical information. Thanks for letting me know about your other books you have read. I have already added some of them to my Amazon list of "to buy" books. Keep in touch. I would be glad to hear from you again. Jeff
Hi Sharlene,

We have 82 books in common. As a librarian it is always heartening to hear that people are still actively using and supporting libraries. I used to read in my closet when I was kid and was supposed to be in bed asleep. I tend to read a bit less nowadays and not as much high brow stuff as I used to. Life just gets so busy with teenagers, work, domestic chores etc...

Cheers,
Amanda
Sharlene, I noted that we share 47 books we have both read. You are second only to another member of the book club I belong to! I have the James Frey book on my shelf but have not yet gotten to it. I was wondering if you had any books you especially liked that are not on our mutual lists-ones I haven't read? Here is a link to our book club site where you can see books we have read, see reviews if we wrote any, and find nice restaurants we have attended for book club meetings! http://www.lmoskal.net/bookclub/newbookc...
I am still trying to read and not succumb to glasses. I wonder what will happen to my reading if I am required to use glasses to see the print. I hadn't even thought about audio books on a regular basis but I do enjoy them when I get them in that form. I did get a chukle reading about your reading late at night when your parents thought you were asleep! I did the same . . . . a flashlight under tyhe covers. Keep reading! Take care, Jeff
You know, when I lucked on to LT, I never imagined what fun it would be. As I'm learning about different areas on the site, "sharing books" has become one of my favorites.
Also, "members with my books". In the couple of weeks I've been on the site, I have experienced deja vu, similar interests, humorous anecdotes and sheer coincidence. But, I have to say, your library runs awfully similar to mine, and like you, I am an avaricious reader who climbs all over the map in order to quench my thirst for books. (Such metaphors!)
I kind of feel a little guilty when I know that most of my reading comes courtesy of the local library, so it's nice to occasionally come across another who also has no scruples when it comes to books to be read.
Know how you feel about bifocals and such, wait until the late sixties (ouch), and staying awake is the big problem. I'm not sure audio books is the way to go for me, but maybe I should try it.
Couple of things...as a John Irving nut from way back, for some reason The Fourth Hand isn't ringing any bells. I wonder why. Also, you highly recommend Mudbound by Hillary Jordan, another title I'm not familiar with, I'll have to see if I can get it soon.
cheers, mel
