Sobre a minha bibliotecaI read mostly from our wonderful local public library. The books in the "your library" collection are books I've experienced, not necessarily books I physically own. The books in "to read" and "currently reading" are also included in "your library". These are books that are currently in my possession and available to be read - the few I own plus the books currently checked out of the library.

Any books that I do own are also in the "owned books" collection. However, most of the books in that collection are "reference" books that are not necessarily read from cover to cover. "Reference" books are not generally included in "your library".

Sometimes I begin a book and decide not to finish it. That book becomes "abandoned". If a library book must be returned before I can read it, it turns into a "try again" book if I'm still interested, or is simply deleted if I've changed my mind about wanting to read it. There are only a couple of overlaps between these two collections - books I didn't want to finish when I had them, but might want to try again later.

Everything I have read has a star rating. Star ratings are a very subjective measurement of my reactions to a book at a given time based on my expectations of it, my mood, and maybe the phase of the moon. I do tend to be stingy with stars, and 3-1/2 stars is a positive rating.

All the books I've read since joining LT are in "your library". Previously read books are added as I re-discover or are reminded of them, and are tagged.

I just added 2 new categories. After seeing a comment from VisibleGhost who said she has separate categories for highly rated books, I decided to do the same. Any book whose overall rating is 4.0 or higher, and is rated by 100 or more people are in the "Odds Are" category. "Odds are" that you and I will like it. For those books that are still 4.0 or higher after being rated by 500 or more people, there are "Overwhelming Odds" that we will also like the book.

Did you ever get your Santa Thing squared away?

On a thread somewhere, I asked whether I could be an honorary Missourian but decided maybe it's better to find out more here, straight from the horse's mouth so to speak (no offense intended).
Thank you very much for the invitation to join, which I have accepted. By the way, I was not ignoring the invitation (given on November 27)---I just don't visit this site often, and did not see it until today.

I am happy to contribute in any way that I can, but confess to being quite "narrow minded". Most of my reading has to do with the field in which I write, which is military history. However, I also read a good deal of theology, and some P.G. Wodehouse. My wife is the real reader, but she is not a member.

Kind regards.

Tom
Hi Sandy: First snowflakes of the season this morning!! woo-hoo.

I've joined two new challenge groups in the past day. I think you might be in them. The alphabet one (I know you're there) plus the cleaning off your bookshelves one. Also joined the new Bibliomysteries group.

Oh, one other thing, for my santee, I had almost five dollars left over after I chose the two books, but then saw the discussion that Dover Thrift Editions are okay, as long as the other two books aren't so I added a $3.50 book to the mix to make it a closer fit, financially.
I had a good look at her library and I've come up with the following recommendations

Vampires, Ghosts and Supernatural:

- Shiver by Maggie Stiefvator (lots of good comments about this one - a love story with werewolves
- Linger by Maggie Stiefvator the second book in the series

- Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Linquist - a Swedish vampire story - again, good reviews

- Bottomfeeder by B.H. Fingerman - A vampire trying to survive in New York City

- There is a series vampire/crime books by Charlie Huston that gets rave reviews with LTers. The first book is called Already Dead and the second is No Dominion. She's read some of the Sookie Stackhouse vampire books so these should appeal.

Chick Lit (for want of a better word):

She's read and rated highly most of Sophie Kinsella's books so -

Marian Keyes - this author writes books similar to Sophie Kinsella but I think she's better. I would recommend Watermelon which is the first in a series, and/or Last Chance Saloon or Sushi For Beginners which are stand alone novels.

Jane Green is another female author that gets good reviews. Her novel Jemina J: A Novel About Ugly Ducklings and Swans gets good reviews. Also one called Bookends is supposed to be good.

Another theme I noticed in her books is Historical Fiction with a strong female viewpoint so:

- Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See - a beautiful book people usually love it.
= Shanghai Girls by Lisa See - this is her newest book.

- Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks - again historical fiction with a strong female viewpoint

- Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosney and The True Story of Hansel and Gretel - I recomment these because she read and liked The Book Thief and these are also set in WWII and are about children

Finally Young Adult Reads - she's read quite a few so:

- Graceling by Kristin Cashore - she loved The Hunger Games and this book is another YA fantasy that's really well written and due to a strong female lead, reminded me of The Hunger Games.

- A Great And Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray - another YA read. This is the first in a series that people seem to really like.

- Crossing Stones by Helen Frost. She has read The Braid by this author and gave it 5 stars, so she would probably like this by the same author.

I haven't read all the books above but most of them I have either read or plan to. I didn't want to recommend any books that have been around for awhile since she may have read them but not listed them like Steven King's vampire novel "Salem's Lot" or the classic ghost story "The Haunting of Hill House" by Shirely Jackson. I hope this is some help to you.
Hi Sandy, no trouble, here on the west coast it's just 6:oo pm, so after dinner I will check her library and wish lists and get back to you later. Judy
Someone who knows your santee posted some suggestions. Should be helpful.
Look at that! Nine members have joined our group since our "mailing"! We hit your half-dozen mark! Nice Job!

Terri
Sandy - Thank you for the invite. I looked up the description for the book and it looked intriguing! I'll pick it up and keep an eye out for the discussion. I love that you guys are reading a Missouri author.

Hope you had a great holiday.

Shannon
I am also looking forward to another book by Woodrell. And I'm so glad I got to meet him! I hope he returns to the Lit Fair next year so I can ask him how he got started writing. He is a terrific writer; just wish he would lighten up a bit. :-) Just let me know if you have any extra time when you're here -- and I'll do the same.
