Sobre mimWhat can I say about me... I'm a booklover who works as a librarian with Dublin Public Libraries, has gone through Cancer (Hodgkin's Lymphoma) and gotten my 3 year all-clear, happily married to Dave - with no children, lives in Dublin and would much rather be in Galway where I'm from.

There have been a lot of people befriending me, which I don't mind, but if there's a reason beyond "oh wow you have a lot of books" comment here. I don't auto-befriend people. Too many books, too little time

Sobre a minha bibliotecaI read, I read an awful lot!

Any Dewey numbers added to files are from Dublin City Council Public Libary's Catalogue (occasionally the British Library). I find most of my non-fiction leisure reads from Dublin City Library.

grading:

5/5 - re-read this one regularly, it sparked something in me

4/5 - would willingly re-read but it just lacks the special something

3/5 - good read, neither moved me or annoyed me

2/5 - niggles, went back to library without re-read

1/5 - I want that time back

Some Tag Explination:

Libary - got from the library, in brackets means I replaced the library copy with my own.

BCIE - was a Dublin Bookcrossers Book Choice of the month

FantasticFiction - was a fantastic fiction choice

A two letter code with Library is the source branch.

Mac means that it's part of my husband's collection

I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it :0)
Thanks again!
Thanks so much for taking time to review The Poison Throne, and for adding it to your library :0)
I'm doing the same from Miami. There are so many public libraries, I hope others take care of other types of venues.

I saw that you have Dakota Bank's Dark Time wishlisted. I thought you might like to know about her weekly drawing for a free copy of her book: http://www.dakota-banks.com/contest.html Cheers, and Happy Reading!
Wow! The amount of books you have read and reviewed is massive. Someday I hope I can say that I have read that many. Your library is very interesting (and large). Also, I like your Randy Spangler artwork (I have several of his pieces and have met him a couple of times) he is a gifted artist (to say the least).

Hey. You could just change the "Dublin, Ireland, UK" ones. The suggestions are based on what exists. So if they don't exist, it won't suggest it...
Hello there... I found your shelf through the 'SF, horror and Fantasy Romance' group. I'd be curious to read your take on Moning's latest Fae series, set in Dublin, which I see are on your bookshelf. I'm looking forward to reading more of your reviews! -rosa
Hello :) Nice to see more Bookmooch and Livejournal people around. Yay for book lovers :)
Looks like you have a good chance at getting an early-reviewer book now. Not so sure about myself though, I've been a flaky reviewer!
Hi
Just saw you added Gardens of the Moon - enjoy the trip!
I found Gardens of the Moon the weakest of these by far, but understandable as it was written ten years before the others during Erikson's lunchbreaks (or at least before he was even writing part-time)
Thanks for the recommendations :) I think I agree with you about The Friday Night Knitting Club -- there were a lot of characters and sometimes you wanted to spend time with them instead of Georgia, who didn't quite ring true in a few large chunks of the book.
Hi there, I thought I'd add you to my interesting libraries as we have so many books in common. I've been a member of LibraryThing for about two years, and it's been telling me about you for so long I feel like I already know you! :)

There's a few books I own that you don't have yet. An Ice Cold Grave by Charlaine Harris is definitely worth picking up. The Devil Wears Prada chick's latest, Chasing Harry Winston, is bit of a yawn. And MaryJanice Davidson's new Betsy-werewolf anthology, Dead Over Heels, is a total waste of money :) Can you recommend any to me?

Hey what did you think of The Friday Night Knitting Club? I have to review it for a local paper and I loved it so much I'm having trouble writing anything at all!! :)
I read a comment that you made on a book I like, I read the comment and did't agree. But we're allowed to disagree. I'm a pretty open-minded person, so I'm going to let you recommend a book that will blow my socks off and get a label of 5/5 on my scale. I'm a mystery lover, the only time I'll go to romance is if the romance is equaling the mystery. And SciFic is ok. Historical is fine too.

Cool. I did Mayo's branches. Ireland is looking so pretty—the Aqua Isle, as it were.
I'm doing the same with the New York City area. There are so many public libraries, I hope others take care of other types of venues
It's funny. I see that conceptDawg said 10,000 was hit before he posted at 8:30, but my computer did not show 10,000 total venues until your entry:

It's still congratulations

How many libraries are there in Ireland :)
Their website is pretty woeful alright.
I'd say if we start to add other Eason's around Dublin then we can make the switch.
Hope you don't mind that I added your library to my list. Very interesting collection!

I've been to Galway several times, and it is lovely. Des Kenny, from Kenny's Books, which used to be on High Street but now sells online only, is a good friend.

Slainte!

Sean
Dear W, Since just over a year ago we've gone from 85 shared titles to 128! I think you added more titles. (Most of what I've been acquiring lately is non-fiction.) I just found your review of The Iron Tree. Thank you -- I feel reinforced. I'm taking it back to the library because I just couldn't get interested. The description I gave to a another staffer was "over-written". I was looking for a little change since I've read about 10 books in a row on the early history of this area, but maybe I'll just read another history book. D.
What a fantastic library. I can sense looking at your collection will make me spend more money. :)
pas vu Cyteen de C.J. Cherryh dans votre catalogue, vous l'avez lu?
un livre de fantasy à me conseiller? les traductions en français sont longues... et c'est trop difficile pour moi de les lire en anglais! ;-)
one french author? mystery+humour+french= daniel Pennac
il change autant les idées que MZB ;)
Someone who loves nancy springer! How cool. I have the whole wyvern series (except the Book of Suns - which I'm not sure exists...?). I'm sure there are others out there that are fans of Springer, but I've never encountered one. I dropped the whole fantasy genre years ago because I couldn't find anything that I loved and gave up trying. Any suggestions?

Dimestorenovel
hi
what a really pretty picture; Irish Middle Age ?
I have all the books translated in French of MZB ... but they are in boxes, for a few time I hope! and some other authors
but nothing comparatively to your fabulous library!!
sorry, my english is as old that I am.... do you write french?
When you find it I'd love to know: is it the same as the book in this photo? http://madam-pince.blogspot.com/2007/03/... Click the photo for a larger version. Thanks! As you can see we have a title and a photo for the book but not an imprint or author. Thanks!
Have you read her other ficion book The FIve of Cups as well? My copy arrived today signed by the author :)
Yeah, its fun. I still haven't read Judgement of Tears, but my spousal unit has. She said it was good.

Also, if you look at Newman's website, there are a few shorter pieces there in the Anno-Dracula universe, and a bibliography.
Anno-Dracula stuff, fyi, if interested, as per review :-

Hi
I've just finished adding my fiction - only a fraction of your catalog. We uniquely share Giants: Magical world of fantasy. You've tagged it TBR. When you get a moment I suggest you find some time to read it. Some of the short stories are a bit mediocre, but there are one or two all time favourites in it.
Fox
Do you mind me asking what you thought of "A Great and Terrible Beauty"? I was disappointed with it, but everyone on this site seem to love it.

PS: I'm also Irish, i live in cork.
Wow! 500+ books in a single year is really impressive. I've gone over 150 twice but that was more than 10 years ago. These days I rarely find time to read even 8 a month. And though I'm primarily NF and you're mostly Fiction, it was nice to see we share 56 titles.

Also intrigued that you're in Dublin. I visited a cousin there a few years back and loved the city. The west coast was wonderful, too. Hope to get back there some day.

Keep turning the pages...
I read your review on Awakening Heart which led me to your site, where I reviewed your first hundred. We share 8 titles. I am reading DaVinci Code now. Moves much faster than the one I just finished, The Star Thrower, in which there was 3 good essays, the rest hard to read, but worth it. I would read the three over, so keeping the book. I have worn many hats, but never worked in a library, though I secretly thought it cool. So glad you are well after your encounter with cancer.
Trish New, author of The Thrill of Hope and South State Street Journal. www.iUniverse.com
I love your dragon icon, he's soo cute!
You had more titles in common with me than anyone else AND I am also a librarian and cancer survivor! Very odd! I use Library Thing to keep track of the books I get for my various family members, and have just started adding titles for myself. Good to hear you are well and happy!
we share 96 books!!! Maybe when I get my whole collection up we will share more :-)
I know what you mean, I had "Brewer's Dictionary of Irish Phrase and Fable" on my wishlist for ages before I spotted it at half price and nabbed it. I love reading one or two entries every now and then
Just spotted "A Dictionary of Hiberno-English" in your reviews. I love books like this, and have added it to my wish list. They are so great for dipping in and out of.
D! You've been busy! Hope you are keeping well, Lora xxx
Yup, I am a bookcrosser - I keep TRYING to give books away, but I ususally end up keeping them.

Abby
Hi there! We have several of the same books - I'll bet we'll have more if I ever get all of mine logged in. I'm a Celt at heart, and envy you your Ireland. Maybe one day...
Yes, a very impressive effort indeed! :)
