I have a friend who is searching for a book from their childhood (I reckon they mean 'about 15 years ago') and has come to something of a dead end. In exasperation, they've resorted to the unlikely trick of Asking Friends To Help.

As LibraryThing seems an excellent place to ask, does anybody recognise the following plot description, by any chance?

An update on the description:

It's a young children's book, probably published in the late 1980s or early 1990s, mainly pictures, probably just a couple of lines to each page.

It was a large square shaped book, with few pages, like many of those types of children's books.

Throughout the book the mouse is making a mess out of everything the hedgehog is doing (in a fun sort of way).

Each page was about a job that the hedgehog wanted to do. For example, one said "Today I'm going to be a postman". "Me too" said the Mouse. And so it carried on with other jobs (baker and fireman were in there).

In the end the hedgehog is setting up a mousetrap and mouse says something along the line of "you wouldn't hedgehog. Would you?!?"

The last page shows the hedgehog and mouse lying in hammocks with a forest in the background.

Could it possibly be Mice Makes Trouble by Becky Bloom? Or Elijah and Pin-Pin by Raoul Millais? My last thought is possibly Tim Mouse Visits the Farm by Judy Brook.

Any of those?

Think it's worth our while heading over to the 'Name That Book' group and reposting?

I remember reading something like that & I recall it was part of a collection. Is it possible that two stories are merging in your memory? Another possibility is a later retelling of these tales. Maybe this will help us remember.

The Tale of Two Bad Mice (1904)

The story is about the exploits of two mice named Tom Thumb and Hunka Munka who break into a dollhouse, while its occupants are out for a walk. The two mice wreck havoc, smashing plaster plates of pretend food, upending dishes and shredding feather beds, before finally running back to their hole with a fair number of things from the house. In response the little girl who owns the dollhouse buys a policeman doll, while the nurse buys a mousetrap. In repentance for causing so much trouble Hunka Munka goes, each morning, into the dollhouse to clean it.

The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle (1905)

A little girl loses her handkerchiefs and goes on a search for them. She sees some white cloths on the grass high up a hill and climbs up to discover a little hedgehog washerwoman, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, with her handkerchiefs freshly laundered, along with many other interesting articles such as stockings for a hen and Died
