It's a tricky business, callmejacx...

The only Jack Kerouac book I've ever read is On the Road (in my youth when I was a trainee beatnik).

Doh! The Moonstone! Trust me to pick a more obscure option. And it was not even a Drabble that I had read. Whereas The Moonstone is a wonderful novel. My first thought had been The Milestone (which, it transpires is Meeting at the Milestone but I misremembered the name after reading it in Norwegian over thirty years ago). I dismissed the misnamed Milestone because of its E at the fourth letter. Hence the erroneous Millstone.

socialpages is the winner. It is The Merlin Conspiracy, a rather clever tale of wizardry that is Arthurian only in name. It is more complex than is normal for teen fiction.

The Berlin Conspiracy is a book of which I had not previously heard. It looks like the kind of thing that I would be happy to read if I stumbled across a copy but I would not seek it out. I love thrillers but there are just soooo many. So, hard luck, Thrin.

I was going to pick a Christopher Brookmyre title but don't think they've travelled outside of the UK too much so I'll give this one a try instead.

Jun 27, 2009, 6:48pm (topo)Mensagem 176: AHS-Wolfy

Not much point in filling in the A's when Thrin has provided the answer. Just in time for me to head off to bed as well.

Sleep well djay666. Glad we didn't keep you up too late.
>175 socialpages.... As well as doing cryptic crosswords and crosswords without clues (which I'm sure helps), I've racked up quite a few years of reading experience, but there are still many, many books I wouldn't be able to guess.

Now try this....

I am a recent convert to cryptic crosswords. They are so addictive, I love the lateral thinking and word play involved but I still class myself as a novice (that means I have to check the answers quite frequently).

But back to the puzzle. May I please have a T?

Jun 27, 2009, 7:32pm (topo)Mensagem 179: Thrin
