Hi
I have recently gained my Msc in Library and Information Studies, and need where to go next advice.(I live in the UK)
I was a mature student (in my 30s) and have worked in mainly public libraries, and really want to try another sector.I am particularly interested in a researchy type role, I have had experience in the reference department -but when we got the internet for the public to use, the enquires dwindled and the work became very boring-the only people coming in wanted the daily newspaper or to book the internet.
I have been working in a branch library for a few years now and it's great for variety , but I just want to get experience of working in a different library.
Has anyone got any advice? I am keeping an eye on job bulletins etc, and I am aware of various options such as temping, but just wondered what others may think.
(I'm not interested in Law libraries or business coporations..)
You may be interested in Medical Libraries, Academic Libraries, or Archives. Archives may not have many patrons per se but the research interest would be there. Also if you are interested in genealogy, then look for public libraries, state libraries, religious libraries, or archives which have special collections.
Good luck in your search!
I've worked in a State Archive Reading Room, Public Library Reference, and now in an Archives for a Religious Order of Sisters.
