I read a book at least 25 years ago ( maybe longer!) about a young girl and two Japanese dolls. The dolls were possibly called Miss Plum and Miss Peach. I think that the girl has been sent to live with relatives and is feeling very homesick. She is worried that the dolls feel that way too and sets out to build a proper Japanese dolls house for them - I think with the help of a boy cousin.
Does anyone remember this story? It was a "chapter book" rather than a picture book and I'm sure I was about 10 or so when I read it. I would love to find it for my daughter. Thank you.
Yes, I remember reading Rumer Godden's books. She's a good writer, more widely known for her adult novels.
She's not very popular now, but I keep seeing
In This House of Brede pop up in various threads. I read it last summer and enjoyed it.
Rumer Godden is also the author of some of my very favorite adult novels: An Episode of Sparrows, The Battle of the Villa Fiorita, and The Greengage Summer. Enjoy!
