I am looking for suggestions for those young readers up to about 10yrs old who are obssessed with High School Musical.
We of course have some of the novelised stories based on these movies( at my library), but these are limited, so does anyone have suggestions of similar types of stories?
#1 -- The Hannah Montana novelizations are popular with the same crowd at my library, but you're probably familiar with those. The "Candy Apple" books (
Accidentally Fabulous,
The Sister Switch Drama Queen, etc.), are also seeing a lot of use -- I don't know that they are similar in topic, but they are around the same level. None are great literature, but hey, Tim already has that covered in post #2! ;-)
re no 2: for a 9 year old?
No.
That said, I think nine year-olds can read almost anything. Certainly no classic literature should be off-limits because of
difficulty. If it were, that's someone's fault, as far as I'm concerned.
And so long as they understood suicide, prostitution and bread-stealing are wrong—especially the bread stealing—there's no reason they couldn't see
Les Miserables.

Well, it would also be good to check if they like the musical, or the fairytale/underdog romance portion.
I've never read it, but
The Four Dorothys by Paul Ruditis is a YA novel about high schoolers putting on a show. I know you said for ages ten and up, jazzycat, but I'd already started reading Sweet Valley High around that age, so I assume it's appropriate for some.
There's a very nice Louis Sachar book called
Dogs Don't Tell Jokes about a middle school talent show. I would recommend it to kids who like HSM.

It's not as if the book or musical glamorizes any of those . . .
It sends all these terrible mixed messages—you have to own up to what you did, but you can then run away and not face the consequences. Not to mention its stance on child soldiers.
Heh. Plus there's the terrible inherent discrimination in tenors always being protagonists while basses are always antagonists . . .
Insidious.
ok guys thanks for your suggestions , they have been helpful.
Noel Streatfeild books - Ballet Shoes etc?
Hmmm...
My sister (6) is absolutely mad about HSM, as it is commonly called.
Maybe because of the fact shes mad about Zac Efron...
She's got a poster, and a annual of him.
I myself hate High School Musical.
I also despise even more, the dead eyes girl, named Hannah Montana.
I'll open a new topic, to show you the picture of her dead eyes.
Also, I hate american movie (pratically the same as hsm, except it's a camp, not a school) yes it's Camp Rock.
I tried watching it with my sister, who likes it, but I don't.
re: 16 Ballet Shoes
good idea, this was one I was thinking about too. Oh and they made a movie of this with "hermoine" from harry potter!

16 they did - but I refused to see it as I have the girls in my head so strongly, I don't want to see someone else pretending to be them!!
Yes, Emma Watson.
Did you know some idiots have been spreading rumours she's dead?
