Tópico:  Avoiding Fiction Plot Summaries - Am I the Only One? 0 / 1 lidas

Jul 3, 2009, 2:55pm (topo)Mensagem 1: LDG

For a long time, the summaries of fiction that appear on jacket covers, in newspaper articles, online reviews or wherever really misled me, so for the last couple of decades at least I've avoided them as much as possible.

Fiction I want to read drifts away from the herd when I look in standard review media such as Booklist, Publishers Weekly, LJ or NYTBR (skimming past plot points as much as possible). Or, there may be "Best of" lists in sci-fi mags or my local newspapers, for example, that interest me. The bestseller lists will suggest stuff too.

It seems more--how do I say it--Real Life when I approach fiction this way, not knowing details of the plot.

Who else reads this way? I can't be the only one!

Thanks,
Linda
