Set 16, 2009, 4:05pm (topo)Mensagem 1: amy173I'm new, and I'd like to encounter some of the regulars on this site. I've really enjoyed nerdily listing my books, although it's a marathon task. Reading has been my love and my friend through all the years of my life - hope I don't have to wait for months and undergo initian ceremonies involving chickens in order to join in! Set 16, 2009, 4:19pm (topo)Mensagem 2: MerryMaryChickens? Good heavens, no. (I'll plead the Fifth on Smurfs and Pirates). (And my personal favorite: blue-footed boobys.) One good way to find your feet is to lurk around some of the groups that sound interesting to you. From each Group Page, you can see what kinds of things they talk about, and how active they are. Another way is to browse people's libraries, and when you find an interesting one, see what groups that person belongs to - and check them out. When you've joined a few groups, and added a few to your watch list, you can set the Talk page to "Your Groups" and the list of message threads won't be so overwhelming. Welcome aboard the most addicting site on the Web! Set 16, 2009, 4:21pm (topo)Mensagem 3: amy173Thank you! Set 16, 2009, 4:24pm (topo)Mensagem 4: amy173How do you join a group? Set 16, 2009, 4:27pm (topo)Mensagem 5: MerryMaryOn the Group's main page, look in the upper right corner. The yellow plus that says "Join this Group." Pretty simple. ;-) Set 16, 2009, 4:30pm (topo)Mensagem 6: amy173Ah. Much obliged ; Set 16, 2009, 4:32pm (topo)Mensagem 7: christigucYes, welcome, amy173! Set 16, 2009, 4:40pm (topo)Mensagem 8: amy173thank you! Set 16, 2009, 6:41pm (topo)Mensagem 9: amy173how do I track the activities of a person I am 'privately watching?' Set 16, 2009, 6:50pm (topo)Mensagem 10: MerryMaryI'm not sure. But someone will answer. I just checked out your profile pic. Gives "privately watching" a whole new image! Set 16, 2009, 6:51pm (topo)Mensagem 11: amy173I know! I'm usually so gifted in survaillance. So what's the point in 'friending' or privately watching, then? Set 16, 2009, 6:56pm (topo)Mensagem 12: MerryMaryI think "private watching" means the person doesn't know you're watching them. What the watching and friending does is result in any new books, reviews, etc. showing up on your home page under Connection News. You can keep track of what they are up to, and read their reviews, etc. Have I forgotten anything, oh denizens of the Thing? Set 16, 2009, 7:23pm (topo)Mensagem 13: christigucYou pretty much have it, MerryMary! :) "Friending" is reciprocal and requires the other person to accept. Adding as an "Interesting Library" means the other person is notified. "Private Watch List" is a list where people won't know you've added them. They all do the same things--the things MerryMary lists in #12. They will show up in connection news and on the work pages. Set 18, 2009, 2:41pm (topo)Mensagem 14: Rach974923Welcome to LibraryThing, Amy173! Set 18, 2009, 2:56pm (topo)Mensagem 15: amy173cheers! MerryMary was doing the honors all by herself but there are other friendly people who pop up as well! Just plunge in and chat in the various groups and you will find lots of folks who share your interests. Out 27, 2009, 7:36am (topo)Mensagem 19: MrAndrewHello amy. I'm here to steal your soul. ...just kidding! welcome! >#17: Mary, your open mind is heartwarming. However i hate to say that Carrol is almost certainly not Carrol Spncr (with or without surname vowels), and that spam link to finance or whatever it is, is almost certainly not accidental. Out 27, 2009, 7:50am (topo)Mensagem 20: MerryMaryYou'd think at my age I'd be a little more savvy. Out 27, 2009, 8:01am (topo)Mensagem 21: MrAndrewThere are worse things than giving the benefit of the doubt. ...now, i have a bridge i'd like to sell you... Out 27, 2009, 4:40pm (topo)Mensagem 22: jillmwoDon't do it, MerryMary. I bought that bridge once and it *can't* be moved to the swamp land that I own in Florida! Out 27, 2009, 9:56pm (topo)Mensagem 23: MerryMaryI've got a bridge over the Dismal* I've been trying to unload... *A very nice river about 2 blocks from my house. I like to call my town Dunning-on-the-Dismal. Out 28, 2009, 8:06am (topo)Mensagem 24: cal8769Whenever I see this thread I have to say the name ...with a Count Dracula accent. Out 28, 2009, 5:24pm (topo)Mensagem 26: MerryMaryDahlink! You are most velcome. *shuddery pipe organ chord crash* Out 29, 2009, 12:26am (topo)Mensagem 27: WholeHouseLibraryHey! I can fix that pipe organ for you if you want me to. I worked for a pipe organ builder once. How fast was it going when the crash occurred? Out 29, 2009, 12:29am (topo)Mensagem 28: MerryMaryNo Out 29, 2009, 12:32am (topo)Mensagem 29: MrAndrewVivacissimo. Very dangerous pace for a pipe organ. I suspect that the player had imbibed a few sherries. Out 29, 2009, 12:46am (topo)Mensagem 30: WholeHouseLibraryI heard all the stops were pulled out. That was a very gestalt thing to do. Out 29, 2009, 1:00am (topo)Mensagem 31: MerryMaryIt was an occasion of note. The keys are missing, and the press is trying to soft-pedal the whole thing. Out 29, 2009, 1:29am (topo)Mensagem 32: WholeHouseLibraryI got wind of that too! Out 30, 2009, 5:59pm (topo)Mensagem 33: jillmwoYou know, there are snake-oil remedies for people who suffer from wind, WHL! You might want to look into that. Out 30, 2009, 6:32pm (topo)Mensagem 34: WholeHouseLibraryYeah, well... Just be thankful you weren't downwind of me... Nov 6, 2009, 7:29am (topo)Mensagem 35: TheoClarkeWell, this thread has given amy173 a remarkably accurate picture of LT talk. If you stick around, Amy, you know that you have already made it through the first initiation test. Nov 7, 2009, 6:50am (topo)Mensagem 36: amy173Oh, you guys! The name is because I come from a factory making Amys. Limited edition. Only 174 were made. Nov 7, 2009, 7:18am (topo)Mensagem 37: MrAndrewnow i'm curious about what amy174 did, so that they stopped the production line. Or... was there an amy0? Are you the 174th? and what did you do? Nov 7, 2009, 9:23am (topo)Mensagem 38: jillmwoEven a more fundamental question --> what's an amy and what goes into producing same? Nov 7, 2009, 9:30am (topo)Mensagem 39: pollysmithI think they are massing for an attack!
