I'm new to author chat - in fact had a hard time finding it! But I'm here now, so any discussion of my novel The Ice Chorus, can commence!
Welcome, and cheers,
Sarah
Hi Sarah - I found "The Ice Chorus" here on LibraryThing.com, and am looking forward to reading it.
I really like the cover art - can you explain why you selected that, and how it is relevant to the book?
Thank you - Sandy in Falls Church, VA
Hi Sandy,
There are two covers for The Ice Chorus the version that is a photo of a woman on the beach was one I worked on with my paperback publisher. I was hoping to imbue a sense of the story and character, and the woman in the photo might easily be Lise from the story. The hardcover version has a different jacket, one I really dislike - watercolour paint dabbed at a vanilla background. I had a fight with my publishers over that jacket, and never really did understand what the idea of it was. The cover of my first novel
These Granite Islands was mcuh more in tune with the book.
Authors don't normally have much say in cover art, I'm afraid!
Cheers,
Sarah
Thank you - that's quite interesting! For what it's worth, the abstract watercolor really caught my eye - I'm sorry you don't like it. I might not have noticed your book otherwise. They should have at least been able to explain it to you. My take is that the light blues are a bit "icy" which goes along with the title, with a little bit of heat from the yellow and red for the Mexico part of the story. And they could be windows or doorways. Or just random smudges of color!
Keep fighting for what you want - Sandy
Glad to hear someone likes that cover. Hope you enjoy the book even more!
