To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street I invite everyone to reminisce about this childhood institution.

One of my favorite skits was a rendition of "I Really Got a Hold on You". I wish I could remember the singer's name (Smokie Robinson?) but it always cracked me up with that puppet letter U trying to give him a hug.

Oh, that explains why Google has been doing Sesame Street all week.

Bert and Ernie were always my favorite characters -- when I was a toddler, I remember my mom and I would say "Bert!" "Ernie!" back and forth to each other over and over again. So, my favorite songs/skits were "Rubber Ducky" and "Dance Myself to Sleep" -- I still find the latter highly amusing.

Favorite character(s): I love Grover. Especially Super Grover! I always love hearing the Fuzzy and Blue song.
I also loved the Count. He was so much fun!

Worst judgment call ever: Having Cookie Monster start eating healthy food. What the heck? Why not just make a new character that eats sensibly? Oh wait, we had that. Bert. :o)

Hands down my favorite is Bert and Ernie as mummies, I remember it scared me as a kid, but I loved it. I credit it in part with my adult fascination with Egypt. I'm going to link the youtube, because it's awesome!

My sister closest to my age and I always favored Mr. Snuffleupagus. Ernie and Count were two other favorites of mine. Of the songs we liked best I can only remember the Feliz Navidad (sp?) and Cereal songs.

Too old to have Sesame Street as a childhood memory and the Dutch edition might be slightly different from what you're used to. Special favorites: the Count, Cookie Monster and Super Grover, but I really love them all.

My favorite memory actually comes in my adult years...my daughter and I watched Sesasme Street every day, and I got very interested in watching as Luis and Maria fell in love and made plans to get married. I missed the wedding, and was pretty hacked off about it, the way most grown women would be about their soap operas. That was when I knew I spent too much time with preschoolers, and needed more adult interaction.

I loved the one time that Bert got the better of Ernie. Mostly I just enjoyed watching with the girls. I love Grover, super lovable furry old Grover.

Oh, yes, lovable, furry old Grover. Did any of you read The Monster At the End of This Book when you were little? I loved that book!

I loved Elmo! And his whole little Elmo's world segment. I also liked the Cookie Monster and Count and Snuffy and that little mammoth girl...Alice? That's funny, I love that name.

I grew up before Sesame Street and my kids were never really into it. But I love the muppets!

I loved all of Sesame Street, but one of my best memories was being really ticked off when Nixon resigned and there was so much news they didn't have Sesame Street on. I also remember not knowing what a president was and wondering why everyone was making such a big deal.

I had nightmares about Sesame Street. Really. They were during my college years, and really creepy. See. That's what comes out of watching too much t.v. when you're little. That and working 80 hours a week, and being so stressed out because of classes.

20 > that was great, I'm assuming that was a take off of V for Vendetta? Still haven't had a chance to see it.

Tuesday is the official date, so we're writing about it in our morning message. The girls will be creating a new muppet on paper.

It is a true credit to the program that even people who did not grow up with Sesame Street have enjoyed the program. Jim Henson's Muppets are universally enjoyed by young and old (I also remember the skits on the earliest Saturday Night Live, oh mighty Pepard). Sesame Street has taken on many controversial topics in a way that didn't talk down to children. May they continue for another 40 years!

Kermit has special meaning, that was my father-in-law's name.

As a child I was only watched one episode of Sesame Street, then my mother banned my brother and I from watching it, because my brother started eating like cookie monster! =(

Playing "Bert in Space" with my daughter, sending him up, up and away off the roof of her Sesame Street toy, using the teeter-totter. She loved it.

I loved Grover as the waiter. Still do. But my favorite sketch of all time was Bert and Ernie with the 'banana in my ear.' I replayed that all around my house when I was little.
