Now possessing the power of "The Word," an ability to make people do whatever he says, Custer begins a violent and riotous journey across the country. Joined by his gun-toting girlfriend Tulip and the hard drinking Irish vampire Cassidy, the Preacher loses faith in both man and God as he witnesses dark atrocities and improbable calamities during his exploration of America.… (mais)

Preacher book 1 is a compilation of the Preacher comic books showcasing the issues #1-#12. This compilation starts with Jesse (The Preacher), Tulip (The [ex] Girlfriend), and Cassidy (The New Best Friend) sitting in a booth at a diner trying to have a conversation. This conversation is intermitted with flashbacks as they go through how they got to where they are now. Eventually, we are lead up to the present, where the real story of Preacher can actually begin. We find out what caused the destruction of Jesse's flock in Texas, What caused Jesse to become a Preacher, and who (or what) everyone is of course. Not all the questions are answered as it won't be until the next book where we can figure out the unanswered questions of these arcs.

Ennis does a great job of giving you a unique story that takes you on a wild ride, Each character is unique and seems to break the cliques of most graphic novels. My least favorite characters (besides the bad guys) was Tulip as she was a bit annoying, I really hope she gets better now that she isn't pestering Jesse about why he left her (There are more important things going on...) Dillon does a good job of bringing the characters into the light and allowing you to feel the emotion that Ennis is trying to convey. I am also really jealous of Jesse's hair. Those Curls.

This is a good graphic novel if you're a fan of comic books, although I will warn you that if you are religious you may want to stay away from this book. ( )

Dark, brutal and funny action adventure exploration of heaven and hell and their mutually dependent self serving natures and modestly put--the shortcomings of humanity. First heard of this from a Barnes & Noble bookseller who liked some unrelated t-shirt I was wearing and thought I might like Preacher. I don't know who sent you, but thank you mysterious stranger. Well well, what a good surprise. When i first opened this book i wasn't too excited to begin. But after a few pages i already knew i wouldn't stop until I was finished with it because it's so great. The characters are super good, i mean, you know they're good when you realize that you really care about them. On the other side, the villains are great too, for example i totally hate the granny and wanted her to die!
The dialogues are quite interesting, i love the characters accents, the jokes and the irony. There are some great twists in the story.
I think that the ending was a bit far-fetched in one or two points, but it's a five star read to me. I'm buying volume two very soon.
