It is a somewhat eerie story about four brothers and sisters that become hidden away in an attic as they are growing up. The children struggle through growing up, finding love and acceptance, and death. As a young reader I loved these books and reread them many times. A book about four children locked away for a long period of time for their mother to gain wealth. How they survive the long days without anyone but themselves.
