Told from a boy's point of view, really portrays the harassment and cruelty of high schoolers towards someone different. Tristan is heavy, has few friends, but things really get rocky when his mother's "significant other's" daughter comes to live with them. She is very hurt, bitter and vindictive and Tristan gets hit by her bullets.

The ending is realistic and yet hopeful.

I don't like the cover art, however -- too unappealing.
