We need to remember to not be afraid of using non-fiction books in our story times! Pairing them with fiction books, activities, and songs especially for that K-2 age group can help them learn and make it interesting! ( ) This one was my husband's pick because he is fascinated with space travel and with getting kids interested in science. This one is a very real look at the family of a real astronaut that pulls no punches, and uses a lovely mix of photos and drawings. Recommended for talking about family issues and following dreams. From an average student to becoming a record-setting astronaut, Scott Kelly tells his story. This story shows how he as a kid didn't know what he wanted to be when he grew up. Scott and his brother Mark both caused trouble in their youth until one day Scott came across a book about test pilots and astronauts. Both Scott and Mark become the first twin astronauts in history. Scotts greatest accomplishment, however, was setting a record for the longest spaceflight by an American. This book is a great read to teach children about if you believe in yourself, work hard and are determined the great things you can accomplish. It would also be good to read when teaching about space and astronauts. Esta crítica foi escrita no âmbito dos Primeiros Críticos do LibraryThing. I received a copy of My Journey to the Stars through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program in exchange for an open and honest review. This was a quick, enjoyable read that was informative regarding Kelly's life story and the process of becoming an astronaut. There were a few bits I struggled with (specifically around him mentioning that his parents fought a lot and it scared him and his brother) - this part was abrupt and then kind of glossed over, which some children might find confusing. It kind of hinted at domestic violence/concerning exposure to violence and didn't seem to play an essential part in the overall story. Other than that, it was an interesting story of Kelly's journey to NASA with his twin brother, with a strong message about hard work and pursuing one's dreams. Might just skip entirely over those pages if I reading the story to a little one. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
